ANOTHER thread??

good start, although, for the not visible tiny details, you can always make them a bit larger so they can be seen.

Heres a little BAT i made of a little house:

This will be my first realese(hopefully)

It is going to be a 60's house(with a nasty concrete texture)like many other 60's buildings around the UK.

    Heres a little teaser 4.gif

    Any ideas for roof junk?

I've started work on 64 Buckingham gate again 9.gif .Here is the real thing; It as accurate as i could get it. 40.gif

    Eventually it will sit on a 2 x 2 lot.Its a midrise office block in Westminister,London. 44.gif

I only need to make another wall of the office and then its all down to cloning all the way through to when i put the roof on and add the floors 37.gif -I expect it'll be ready to export in about two weeks max & then that leaves the problem off getting someone to render it. 25.gif

Oh and ignore the illusions that each window is a different size;its just a glitch 1.gif

It was all done on array.

I think that you need to look closer at the proportions of the details on the real building. How tall are the windows compared to how wide they are? How many floors are there? Are some floors taller than other floors? How tall are the spandrels (the parts in between the windows, where the floors are) compared to how wide they are? Are some columns different thicknesses? Exactly what is the shape of the columns (are they rectangles, or are they more complex than that?).

Modern buildings like this are deceptively simple. You will have to tweak it a lot, or even restart modeling several times before it's ready to array. And then while you're arraying it, you need to notice if some floors are higher than others, or if there are any other subtle differences between the floors.

why cant you render it? all you do is hit "reset Lights and Cameras" then "refit Lods" then set the export quality to "medium" and hit "export". If you can use the BAT, i'm sure you can follow those 4 steps. Buckingham looks nice, if you want to make it more realistic, the third lines in from the left and from the right, and the middle line are a little bit larger then the rest. Thats not really necessary, but its somthing I noticed in the emporis pic. Are your windows transparent? if so you should add some of those shades in that emporis pic, that would look good.

Thanks jasoncw,Gn_leugim & patriots for the help 44.gif You guys pointed out some obvious flaws in my BAT that i didn't even notice at the time 34.gif I fixed them. The spandrels are fixed.I heightened the top floor.etc.etc;I also added some blinds like patriots suggested.Although, remmember this is preview render is on thr low setting so the blinds don't appear that great 38.gif

37.gif Oh & patriots, the reason i can't render is i don't have the texture fix,or rather i can't.Theres no GMAX folder in C: drive of my computer so i can't save it anywhere(is there any other way i can access it[like if i can access it by opening the BAT/GMAX.Really pisses me off(excuse my french),now that i have to find someone to render my BATs;and by the way patriots,my windows are transparent 2.gif

[EDIT]Oh,and by the way-how do suggest i clone the walls because when i clone them my computer slows and i can't put them in the right place if you know what i mean, well i hope you do 4.gif Do you think i should select the objects on the wall seperately and move them seperately?

If you're using Gmax, then you don't need that ground plane, it's only increasing your render times.  If you want something so that you can see your windows, then model in some temporary floors.

It looks like overall, the proportions of your windows is too fat (they could either be too wide, or not tall enough). Your spandrels are better but still are too short looking. Remember that looking through SC4's camera, the building will look squashed, so you'll want to scale all of your vertical dimensions by 133%.

The concrete (?) in the middle of the building is a very flat and clean color, and it is quite a bit lighter than the walls.

I don't really think that wall should be causing Gmax to lag so much. You might have modeled it inefficiently. Make sure that Your objects only have as many polygons as is needed (look at the objects in wireframe mode). You might need to remodel them. If they're modeled fine, then once you're done tweaking the modeling, right click one of the objects, and convert it into an editable polygon. Then, on the right menu, find the attach button, and go and attach all of those black pieces together. You'll now have a single object which is your wall. You can now move the entire wall as one object, and as a whole your scene should lag less. If you need to move parts within the wall, you'll have to go in and edit it, kind of like editing a spline. And remember if you want to clone something, you can select it, hold shift, and then move it, and it will clone the piece.

If it's still lagging too much, then yeah you'll probably need to do it all separately. You should be saving frequently, and with the "increment on save" feature on (check out the BAT Mega FAQ about file corruption), and this way you'll have backups in case a technique you tried didn't work very well.

    Thanks jason 44.gif

Well i guess i'll get to work on the spandrels now-I'm making a knew texture for the middle part of the building-Its not actually supposed to be concrete, but i'll fix that. 19.gif And i'll try the things you suggest.

I model the plane because i think it looks better, but i obviously won't export it with that 48.gif

Good building so far, but the roof junk needs work; I can tell it's just textured boxes and cylinders from here.  You might wanna add fans, vents etc.  And just so I'm clear, where's the entrance?3.gif  You might wanna add interior details, especially if you're going to make interior lighting.  Other than that, keep it up!

    Quick replies.

I'm busy doing the roof junk.

Toxicpiano: Thank you very much 9.gif

Gn_leugim: Thanks 35.gif Its 2x2 and yes it'll be growable(not too sure about the stats yet though.46.gif

Yoshiisland:I've sent you a pm &.. I might make interior details.I need too visit the building so i can take some snaps of the base(I couldn't find any pics on the net 32.gif)

[EDIT]I'm going down to Buckingham Gate today to take some pics of the base on my digi-cam.

I'm also going down to Fenchurch street station to take some pics.(I'll be making this[in its current state;not the way Ill Tonkso modeled his.Now its got an office development on it like most termini in London.17.gif

yeah, it definitely needs a base, since right now it looks like it grew out of the ground. very nice otherwise and good attention to details with the rails around the roof edge.
