Wow, I can't believe I only noticed this CJ now! This is great stuff. I'm planning a European city, too, and this looks like it'll be good for inspiration. I think I'll make myself a cup of tea and start reading through all 16 parts... 1.gif

Hello DA my friend,

And thanks for stopping by2.gif Don't worry about missing an update, lucky this is ST, and all the pages are there for your viewing pleasure. Besides, we all SHOULD have a life, and get on with RLS...

It is diffucult to be original, I feel that I am running out of ideas - and then, when I wake up, I have this 'king' idea that I need to follow.

Only recently I have started to use the night shoot option of SC, it does give totally different idea of a city, don't you think?

Hugs

Mika

Yes, I agree with you it is pretty hard to have a life with ST..because there is so much to look at and enjoy, beautiful BATs..watching people create some of the best BATs we have ever seen. About the night view..I agree I like to use it alot especially in downtown areas with the NDEX skyscrapers because they have that neon lighting you have to like that. 2.gif The night view is so much differen, it really makes the game more realistic, with the day to night cycle effect..gotta love that.

I notice as I gaze at your cities that you must have a whole lot of plugins.. 31.gif, because I notice everything in your cities is custom content, that is the way I play the game as well, I would of never went back and started playing SC4..if I never found this site..and with out the BAT..so maxis should thank the BATers for their hard work..they kept their game alive. 44.gif

    Big big thanks to you all, my friends

    again you were numerous to comment on my update(s) - I feel that I am finding my little place here in ST. And all is thanks to you, guys and girls.

    Lord_Bertrum: Thanks mate! Indeed, Chateau Gobert it is purely based on water. I will explain you the trick tomorrow.

    dhoppeii and palmgurl: Thanks, my dear friends! What, my farms need to suffer only from 368 passing vehicles...? Heh, in fact, I took a closer look at those dilapidated farms, they look like some Belgian abandoned farm houses that are just be sold to a rich investor who will convert them to fancy holiday homes for some rich North Americans...

    pekeboo01: Welcome to Marsalia, and I hope to see you here soon enough!

    petriknl: Indeed, lavender and sunflower fields were in my head as well - sometimes they even grow without any further encouragement. But frankly, I think I need to start plopping again, just to really catch the spirit of Provence that we all love so much.

    The temperature provision for tonight is +24 C (around mid 70s F) minimum, and for tomorrow +39 C (over 100 F) - and this is for both Brussels and Marseille. I suppose Les Olives is no different...

    Les Olives is actually a wealthy middle class village, where the village council has decided against new housing development. You can only build a new house if an old one has been burnt or otherwise 'accidentally' demolished.

    And please check your PMs...

    mike_oxlong: Hey Mike, I am really glad that you enjoyed my update this time! What is the story behind your avatar? It is beautiful!

    pikatchoum: I really like that nightshot picture myself - and the smiley that you have used2.gif Chateau Gobert is coming up later today, in about 12 hours. Then you will see closer, how it goes... also thanks for adding my CJ to your signature!

    Buster: Welcome to Marsalia - and I hope you had a good cup of tea there. What flavour do you like? My favourite is vanille. I hope really that I can bring some new ideas to playing this game, nothing much, just some details. But it is details that we all love, isn't it?

    DragonAnime: My dear friend, I agree with you especially to have a life in ST... if you are willing to participate, and have the knowledge to BAT, modd, and still make CJ's, you are heading for permanent troubles... but a rewarding stress anyway. I also enjoy immensely the NDEX downtowns, although you don't see them in this journal. I have built other cities with NDEX buildings, and the night views just take breath away.

    Yes, I have a lot of plugins, I counted them last time in February, when I had to retemplate my machine - then I had 1.2 GB worth of plugins, around 3000... the down side is that I use maybe only 30% of them, so in coming weeks, when I start to prepare for a new project, I need to critically think of the size of my plugin folder... a lot has to go. But don't worry, they will not be deleted, I have already a DVD back up my stuff...

    I even think that I don't want SC5 to come - Maxis gave us a good base - now it is us who are controlling the content.

    Jerebannus XVI: You will have updates in about 12 hours. I must sleep here in between...

    aleking: A region shouldn't be just full of suburbs but it is a human habitat, with changing landscapes, industries... and farming is a great way of proving it. I checked my PM, and you have a PM waiting for you as well2.gif

    Jacqualina: As always, I am pleased that you come for a visit. Do you have a CJ to share with us, because I would like to see your work?

    Darmok: And I am especially happy that you came by! Because at some point of my life, I lost a part of my heart in Canada (in densely forested BC, but not so densely forested Okanagan Valley) 20 years ago... I am also impressed by the kinds of people that are here, like you for instance, a forest ranger. Vraiment chapeau, t'as un travail que j'ai beaucoup d'admiration pour. Also I am no longer a student, but really a 38-year old man, and still loving to play games.

    My CJ is full of these little details, market places, train stations, churches, even two mosques - and of course, one fortress... and there are still things to come - haven't decided yet what to show. Maybe I will make a reference to Ch

    Well, another nice adition: The country side, heh?
    Looks very good, a quiet town away from the urb, very inspiring. I liked the Chateau Gobert (one of my favoryte BAT is STEX), how did you place it on PEG's? 42.gif
    a little lot editing or is there a water hole beneath the castle. Well anyways, great addition and congrats on page 8!44.gif

    Well, when I was driving home from work, I thought that I have to divide my 17th update in two parts, so today I will treat you with a morning update, and after I wake up in the afternoon, it is time for the part two of the 17th update.

    But before that, thanks to both debussyman and Mexicanboy13r: thanks for the congratulations, it is difficult to believe that in few weeks from the start of my CJ, I am already on page 8. There are still a few updates to come before I call it quits; I told myself that I can try with my first CJ, how it goes, how my presentation skills advance, and I am quite happy - especially because I have learnt a lot during this time. I will explain in the afternoon the Ch

    Wonderful pics there Mickebear.  Too bad you don't have any seasonal trees there in that mosaic.  That would have looked cool.  Enjoy the rest....and I'll be looking for the next update.

    Alright, my friends, I had my sleep and on with the 2nd update of today that I promised to you. Thanks for commenting the first one!

    jacqualina: Thanks for stopping by - yes, I know that building a region - and a CJ, is a time consuming job - especially when you have also a life to live...

    mike_oxlong: thanks for helping me out - this is the community spirit that I like here!

    SoNell: Welcome to Marsalia - and please look at the mail from mike_oxlong a few responses down from yours.

    Jerebannux XVI: Also thanks for visiting Marsalia - especially the countryside section now. Let's hope that my update now will please you.

    the_crispbread_witch: Thanks, it is really not serious, if you don't have the time to check up - you have your own beautiful CJ to update - and my updates always stay here for your viewing pleasure. I am glad that you will test the roundabouts as well - they give that touch of realism in your game.

    dhoppe: Thanks my friend to ask... I deliberately decided NOT to use the seasonal trees, for two reasons: first, our round is happening now in June, so a bit too early for the seasonsal trees (and I am afraid that taking my mosaics will be double difficult, when all of sudden 50% of my mosaic resides in October, whereas the other 50% in June [rofl]; second, actually I have this thing that I get blues always in October/November - and the seasonal trees would remind me too much when you have them around. Truth is, you are right, that would add to the realism... maybe for my next CJ...

    So, my dear friends, welcome to the promised

    Alright, let's call this a minitutorial - or how to get grey hair very quickly - of how you can treat a building designed to be place fully on the water - but you must place it on the dry land. Sorry about the bad quality of the jpgs, done purposefully.

    Needed mods and plugins:

    Teirusu's rain tool , PrePo's Olavinlinna - St Olofsborg Castle , Pegasus' Pond Kit . Of course credit duly to the BAT and MOD artists who have created these for us to use.

    1. Your pristine piece of land

    CGMakingOf01.jpg

    2: Start terraforming. Notice that terraforming a 12x12 square area doesn't hurt, it gives more realism in what I wanted to accomplish. First level the ground. Here I have used simply the road tool.

    CGMakingOf02.jpg

    2: raise the surrounding land a little, either using road tool, or the terrain tools in MAYOR mode.

    CGMakingOf03.jpg

    3: Destroy your terraforming pieces in the middle, YAH1.gif

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//CGMakingOf04.jpg align=baseline>

    4: You must return to God Mode tools (Control+Alt+Shift and Click with mouse on top of the God Mode icon), bring in the leveller tools

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//CGMakingOf05.jpg align=baseline>

    5: Select the rain button.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//CGMakingOf06.jpg align=baseline>

    6: Bring in the rain. You may have to press several times and keep the left mouse click pressed on bottom. Alternatively, you can gently try to make a lake to have the water coming up.

    CGMakingOf07.jpg

    7: Just stay in amazement for a few seconds...

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//CGMakingOf08.jpg align=baseline>

    8: Go back to Mayor mode, Landmarks menu, and find Olavinlinna - St Olofsborg. Then place the castle in the small lake that you just formed.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//CGMakingOf09.jpg align=baseline>

    9: Save your city and return to your region; then load your city again and you will notice that the water in the lake has disappeared...

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//CGMakingOf11.jpg align=baseline>

    10: Then bring in the parks menu and select PEG's pond kit buttons, best probably is to use the 1x1 water tile
      <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//CGMakingOf12.jpg align=baseline>

    11: place your water tiles a bit UNDERNEATH the castle - yes, it is possible as you can see in the following picture...

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//CGMakingOf13.jpg align=baseline>

    12: And voil

    MissTonya: I really enjoyed your kind words, so thanks for them. Cheats... I don't use the cheats dialog box to get money or the rewards, but I did use some money-giving buildings, before I started to build the city; problem of using those buildings is that they screw up totally the natural demands, so it is not good to use them when you actually start the city. And if reverting to God mode is considered as a cheat... then I have cheated. Because to build in a way that I made Ch

    Oh Olavinlinna! I love that BAT, but I find it hard to place it in open water, looks much better in a pond.

    And it's a much better bat then The Globe if you want the swedish/(finnish) feeling...
