    Announcement:

Welcome to Simtropolis 6.0 everyone! I hope you are enjoying the new format! I'm sure you've noticed the new CJ section seperate from the forums. If you haven't seen it yet, go have yourself a look!

GTR 2.0 has begun! You can find it here.

For the time being, GTR 2.0 is more of an experiment than anything. There is no way for me to tell weather it will replace this thread at this point. The new blog-styled format will post one update per page, so it makes it easier for the reader to view what they want without too much clutter. For the city journalist, its a bit of a different process compared to on the forums, and I am still learning how to do it.

In GTR 2.0, you can comment on wichever update you like, rate other people's comments, and even rate the city journal as a whole. There is a suscribe feature as well (not sure how that works yet), but its worth checking out.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy browsing GTR 2.0 as well as the new site!

    Best,

    -Haljackey

Good. I'm glad this thread won't be replaced immediantly. GTR 2.0 so far is looking good. I believe the format will work well with the subject of the CJ (the GTR).

I have now transferred all updates that weren't lost by the site hack over to GTR 2.0. You'll now be able to view and comment on each specific update over there, and the increased amount of organization will make it easier for you to navigate between updates.

If there's anything else you would like to see in GTR 2.0 give me a shout either here or on the new CJ section.

I'm planning on posting new updates in both places, at least for the time being. This lets you the viewer see the updates wherever you feel most comfortable. This thread will still remain active and unlocked, just so you know! 3.gif

    Best,

Still used to the old system... Now I feel like going through the CJ again, but I think in Update forty-something the photoes say that their bandwiths are exceeded.

Good luck, update round the corner?

Yeah I've had it with photobucket. 6 accounts and I'm still getting that stupid "Bandwitdh exceeded" message.

As for new updates, getting GTR 2.0 together has taken up most of my time. You'll be missing out if you don't check out some of the exclusive content only found in GTR 2.0. Some of them are:

-New and improved table of contents

    -Statistics, History, and Other Information

    -GTR Playslst

Anyways check them out! Its worth a look!

    Best,

All right, after a painstakingly difficult effort and a lot of trial and error, the downloads page is now up and running on GTR 2.0.

You can view the new downloads page here.

All images have been restored, detail links provided, and direct download links established.

What do you think of it? Is there anything else you'd like to see in the downloads page?

I'll get back to your comments soon.

Cheese89: Hey, thanks a lot! Glad you like the region so far!

Patricius Maximus: Glad you think so! And so do I!

doironhebert123: Thanks! The residential population is approaching 18 million I think. Have a look at the new GTR 2.0 stats for more info.

TmiguelT: Thank you! Let's hope so! Neither can I! Patience, lol!

    Korot: Neither can I!

Raysfan16: Thanks a lot! Indeed they do. Glad you like the location! Me too!

Zezug: It is, isn't it? 3.gif That's the model the GTR uses.

blue sinjid: Great to see you back! Epic win? lol 3.gif. Yes, it is confirmed.

edmonton_stinks: Indeed it is. Interesting term isn't it?

GreekMan: Indeed it is. There are homes everywhere in the residential zones... what on earth are you talking about? 3.gif

Blue Lightning: And so do I! It has to be big, that's for sure.

doironhebert123 (2): Indeed it has. Change has come to the GTR as well.

Patricius Maximus (2): Yep its more of a work in progress right now. Although I have recently buffed it up (check out the first 8 pages of GTR 2.0!).

doironhebert123 (3): Not sure what you mean there, sorry!

TmiguelT (2): See the posts above and below. 3.gif

IsaacTham: Well we all are used to a forum based system. Its going to take a while to get used to the new system.

-I've had it with Photobucket. I'm not using it anymore (I have 6 accounts and I STILL get that bandwidth exceeded thing).

jacqulina: As am I. Thanks a lot!

    Patricius Maximus (3): tyvm! 3.gif

TmiguelT (3): lol! Just make sure you read it next time! 2.gif

    jacqulina (2): Thanks again!

    Update time!

Well I haven't played SC4 for about 2 weeks. (Been busy with some other stuff.) Nevertheless, I have a new update in store for you! It will map and breakdown the city of Terran Settlement into three different models: props, buildings and zones. I hope you like it!

    Pictures

-Sorry, these images are not available in full resolution.

    Concentric model of props.

-Can you see how it maps out the city tile?

    clipboard01cej.jpg

    Buildings

    img0002z.jpg

    Zones

-Pink zones can be plops, government buildings, landmarks, transit enabled lots, etc.

-Purple zones can be parks, eyecandy, utilities, transit, etc.

    img0004ayl.jpg

Rather interesting eh? It helps out for those of you who want to see how I design my cities in the GTR.

    Best,

    -Haljackey

EDIT: I just realized that the GTR is now the 5th largest CJ in terms of replies. The four above the GTR are Simtropoia, NOG, AVR, and of course, Schulmania; all massive, classic CJs. (The GTR is currently #11 in terms of views.)

Wow! This just proves you dont plop your city (unlike me ) 4.gif and how much time you spent all each and every city tile!I am amazed how everything is so packed that it makes it ''form'' like there was land showing!

As you can see from my post count I am fairly new here, although I bough SC4 years ago I never really got into it. Then I found this site and I am hooked, then I find this thread (by mistake) - that was two hours ago.....I have read the lot and checked out the pics - I can only say I hope one day I can get my standard of bulding even quater as good as yourself. Amazing and goes to show just how good this game can be in the hands of folk who can take the time to do it right.

Excellent work, and a true inspiration.....am off to load the game now!

    Again ,well done.

Patricius Maximus: Indeed. Glad you found it interesting!

    Muck308: Hey, thanks a lot!

Darmok: Thank you! Its understandable you can't go back to page 1, it would take you all day to read this thing! 3.gif

-Yeah, it seems I'm kinda known for my infrasctructure and highway stuff. Thanks for stopping by!

-Oh, and have a look at GTR 2.0 in the new section if you have some time to kill. 2.gif

Twenty20: Of course it is! Thanks a lot!

buildsolid: Eh? Its not the norm, that's for sure! 3.gif

blue sinjid: lol indeed! Only totally developed cities on large tiles will look like this in SC4save. The others will look too empty and/or blocky.

TFM1874: Wow, thanks a ton! Don't worry, in time you'll find out what you're good at in SC4. For me, its what you see in the GTR!

-Out of curiosity, how did you find this thread by mistake?

    Update time!

So I haven't played SC4 in about 3 weeks now, but the GTR is still flowing with content. How is this possible you ask? Its because I got bored in my stats lab today and decided to make some stats for the GTR. You'll also see a couple more city models in this update too.

A bit of background, the GTR is currently located in 4 areas believe it or not. They include:

    -Simtropolis

    -Simcity 4 Devotion

-Skyscrapercity (not regularly updated like the others)

-Simtropolis' new City Journal section (Called GTR 2.0 for easy reference)

So for my stats, I compiled a list of views and comments and made some charts out of them. Yay graphs! 3.gif Anyways I hope you enjoy it!

    Views:

    img0029sdf.jpg

    Total views: 75,679

    Comments:

    img0029ryd.jpg

    Total comments: 2,871

    Proportional views:

    img00275.jpg

    Proportional comments:

    img0027j.jpg

So what do these stats point out? Well just take a look at the pie charts and compare the percentages. It seems as though ST typically gets more comments and SC4D gets more views on an analysis that puts the total numbers aside. There is a also a noticeable difference between those who comment and those who don't at SSC. GTR 2.0 is relatively new (created on March 21/09 when ST 6.0 went public) but is already taking a good slice of the pie. I expect GTR 2.0 to grow the most over the next little bit, but only time will tell.

And here are a few more city models. I got them when I was playing around with the new SC4save program.

    Downtown:

-You can tell that this tile is mostly land eh?

    img0011mmt.jpg

    City of Crossings:

-The Crossings River is clearly visible to the south.

    img0009i.jpg

Anyways, that will do it for now. See you later!

    Best,

    -Haljackey

Nice stats... I enjoy stats myself. I think the view to post ratio looks better on ST than SC4D because refreshes and same session revisits seem to not count on ST.

    Interesting stats.

Another way to compare views and replies is by percentage of users.

For instance, GTR at ST would be:

I concede this is not a very useful assessment of the GTR's worth, but it is interesting.
