Frankly, I'd rather get a lump of coal....

YES, it's that bad. 2.gif

SC4, Forevermore!

Currently preoccupied with architecture school...lurking with caution.

To me its all on the gamer really. There are those who loved it, Those who hated it, and those who find it simply mediocre. The interface is said to be simply ridiculous and yet some say there is more to it than meets the eye.

You're going to have to find out for yourself.

It would probably entertain a ten-year old for a few days. No longer.

Is it that bad? IMHO yes, it is

This one is pretty much the opposite of what I want to see in a SimCity game

- I don't like cartoony graphics, I want to be able to make realistic looking cities

- I don't like the special actions your buildings can do. Why is it my job to tell the religious people when it's time to "talk to the people" or whatever? I couldn't care less about that. There's at least one buildings special ability that increases the income of a certain building, you just have to use that ability once per 24 hours for it to work... like it's not easy enough to get money already?

- I don't like the simple economy, it's pretty much impossible to lose money

- I don't like the simple transit, I want to be able to make railroads, highways, avenenues, roads, subways, one way streets, etc

- I don't like that roads can't be in an angle

- I don't like the lack of RCI. Need jobs? Just plant a workplace! Need workers? Just plant some resident houses

- I don't like the lack of zoning. Plopping down every building one by one feels like work. Why do I need to decide where to build an ice cream shop or movie theater?

- I don't like the lack of growth. In SC4 it was always fun to see the first skysraper getting built, then later the second skyscraper got built which was even taller and so on. The random growth is what makes it fun

The only "positive" side is that you can make different kinds of cities, but it's not something I personally see as positive in this case, as the different kinds of cities are IMHO uninteresting. I want to be able to make New York, Paris or Rome, not a clown city or big brother city

From what I heard right now the game is ...

... rather mediocre if you are not a SC4 - player

.. rather bad if you are a SC4 player

I would save up the money until they sell the game for not more than 20 % of the actual full price. Shouldn't last too long IMHO.

If you are married and male get your wife some nice flowers from the saved money ... I am sure she deserves it ...

It is by no means the worst game I have ever played, this is for certain.

But, it also does not have anywhere near the continual and long-term playability that SimCity 4 still has.

It's quite comparible to City Life, with more flexibility and imagination in some aspects, and less in others. Don't get it expecting the sequel to Simcity 4.

It's probably not a bad game but if you do decide to purchase this game, then you're supporting EA in declaring that the extensive research and developerment cost in making SIMulationCity 5 is pointless, when they can churn out crap like SCS and make a huge profit doing it.

Yes, it's good  but a bit too complex and difficult at times.

SimCity 3000 Unlimited is my favorite in the series.

It really depends on your expectations.  If you're expecting a successor to SC4, with the same type of gameplay, you'll most likely be disappointed.  If you have an open mind and are willing to accept that this is not a successor to SC4, then you may very well enjoy it.  Myself, I like it a whole lot.  Never liked SC4, but I'm having a grand time enjoying this game...

I agree that you have to open your mind and I did.  I tried so hard to like it, but when you love a game so much as SC4, you have to have key elements that transfer over.  I was hoping for more.  I really hope a game comes out that will meet those expectations. At least the majority of us.

Am I mistaken or is this game in stores now?  By the way people are talking it seems they have played this game already.

From what I've seen in the reviews it seems ok if you like city life and down-right bad if you like SC4.  I hate the social aspect...I don't care about my sim's lifestyle decisions, I just want to give them a place to thrive and ways to get to and from work.

My opinion, save up for cities unlimited.  It seems to have more potential as a real city simulator.

oops...I just did a google search and found out that it was released Nov.13.  Shows you how much I was anticipating the realease   34.gif

It's not THAT bad, at least if you enjoy "sandbox" gameplay. Otherwise it kinda sucks in the difficulty area...

I had to build/destroy like 5 cities before I managed to build a city with a decent surplus that could stay and not get in the red. A few months later, I got a city of 100,000 Sims and I was overjoyed. Then, I discovered this site and the NAM (everyone on the BBS was talking about NAM, Simtrop, and mods so at first I was like "what???"). Not that I'm saying it should take months to make a good city, even though it very well could (in real life it'd take several years, but anyways). I can understand that some may find it too hard, because it requires a complex amount of thinking, skill, and leadership. But at the same time...

Isn't that what would be expected of a real mayor?

    Keep calm and take photographs.

I've said this on other threads and I guess I'll post it again. From seeing gameplay on the SCS CJ's it actually looks like fun, in a whimsical perspective, it will never replace Sim City 4 or hopefully 5 and 6 and so on, but it's like a different side game with slightly different objectives. well that's my opinon on the subject
