Oh my God... that last picture is just amazing. WOW. It's like I've never seen a city building game before.

Hehe, watch what happens when EA finds out that more people are buying Cities XL than their crappy, spinoff SimCity Socities game. I am predicting that one day, EA would try to buy Cities XL so EA could earn more money.

Wait, what is system requirement for Cities XL; are we allow to add mod programs and buildings to Cities XL?

I am guessing that we have to buy the game. If we do have to buy the game, hopefully the game isn't too costly.

Panoramic shots are very impressive and realistic.

Unfortunately same couldn't be said about "in-city" views. It is too dark and contrasty like it is on the moon or other planet with no atmosphere. Hopefully this is still could be adjusted to give city views same airy light feel as panoramas have got.

From the screenshot it looks like the roads can be anywhere but the buildings are on a grid... first big downer for this game that I have seen

Looks nice, especially the wide assortment of cars on the streets. Looking more closely, I can see some real-life inspirations... such as the Pontiac Solstice and others. Now, that's cool. 9.gif

Wow this is looking GREAT And not just the graphics too; while they're stunning, every other aspect of Cities XL just looks amazing. I can't wait for this piece of gold to come out.

I like the first two screen shots with the 3d globes and the third screen shot with the towers - it looks very realistic and has good graphics. I'm not too thrilled with the fourth or last screen shot, however.

I agree with spa when it comes to the lots vs. roads - the buildings are definitely blocky and look awkward compared to the free moving roads - lots of grass space left surrounding buildings on curvy roads. Also the sidewalks seem to be extra large and color coordinated depending on neighboring buildings just like in City Life - which is very bad.

In the fourth screen you can see a different colored red sidewalk - reminiscent of the Fringe from CL, with the usual white/grayish sidewalks, which looks like suits from CL. It doesn't help that the red buildings on the corner of the red sidewalk looks just like a Fringe building.

For me, transportation is pretty important in this upcoming game. I definitely hope CXL doesn't mimic CLs sidewalks or its culture groups. The last thing I want is large multicolored sidewalks and color coordinated ethnic buildings like in CL.

OMG simply wonderful.

I am SOOOOOO looking forward to this game and will be transferring Atlantis allowing my more realism. Truly a fantastic new game, I'm so thankful Monte Cristo have taken time and developed this in line with the wishes of its audience.

Lets make Cities XL the number one bestseller (once released 2.gif )

Belfastuniguy: Oh it will!

And for those worrying about how brown and dark everything is, Dasvilva told me in chat that it was because of the time of day the shot was taken, the sun cast dark shadows over everything, hence making everything brown.

I agree about the sidewalks, WAY too big!

I always wanted a Sim game where you can view your city skylines from the ground level.

The pics look great so far. A lot better than the pics that came out of SCS before it was released...

Cartoonish??? How do they look cartoonish? The buildings are outfitted with textures snapped from real world photographs. I'm afraid your tastes may be out of reach...

caspervg, if you want to see SC4 in a whole 3D you will have to wait a long long time. As you see, it would be a pain for every computer on earth to have such detailed graphics like SC4 in 3D

Well, I'm not impressed... particularly with the first one. Textures are rather weak and UVW mapping is bad as well. Lighting is plain awful, hope they fix it before release. But I guess it is naive to expect more from true 3 d game for now.

and next 10 years....

Second one, on the other hand is pretty good. Third is so simple/simplistic that there isn't much to say.

One thing that should be kept in mind. One thing to keep in mind these shouldn't be compared to very amateurish bats, or on cartooney (by design) approach of SCS. It should be judged on it's own merit and in such i don't really see much to be overly excited... If someone does please point it to me...

I'm not gonna be pedantic; any city-building game in fully 3D that doesn't completely kill the 'Simcity' concept is good for me. It seems Cities XL will be a better 'Simcity' than the one that was actually called 'Simcity'. (I mean Simcity Societies of course.)

I want to point out something. Game developers can pick 2 options regarding graphics in the game.

One is to have great graphics and higher system requirements thus less potential buyers.

Or game can be more general, to work on older computers. It has ofcourse worse graphics, but that's the pay for a game to be more general.

And ironically enough, often people with old computers complain about the weak graphics that will be introduced in a game.

I rather like the second pic. It look great.

One thing I didn't like (the only thing actually) was that the roads didn't look quite right. They looked light brown in the last pics and the sidewalks were huge and they seemed gridded in the city. (???)

Just wondering, could we make roads like that, with more lanes on one side than the other?
