Or heck she could have made Harry gay for crying out loud... lol Either way Dumbledore is still cool and goes to show you that gay people are just people to even though he's a wizard... 10.gif

Although I had never suspected Dumbledore to be gay, it doesn't surprise me that Rowling decided to make one of her characters gay. The genius of the Harry Potter series is not in the quality of the literature (of which many people have doubts), but in the fact that it teaches children very important ethical lessons in a story that they can identify with.

A central theme of the series is overcoming bigotry, and Rowling presents this to her readers in a very subtle and effective way. Instead of drawing the lines of prejudice along skin color or creed, she places them along a quality that is invisible to the children reading the story. Moreover, she places them in the group that is oppressed for no obvious reason (what muggle child who reads the series does not wish to receive their very own invitation to Hogwarts?).

And of course, Rowling makes it clear to us that Dumbledore has his flaws, just like the rest of us.

And why are we considering homosexuality a flaw?

Im not a huge supporter of gay rights, but it doesn't make a person flawed.

So what? The old fart happens to be gay, like so many others out there? What's the discussion about?

DUMBLEDORE being gay? Dumbledore being GAY? Or Dumbledore BEING gay?

One day, perhaps, we'll live in a society where being gay is like being black - nobody asks questions, nobody tries to change it (at least, not the majority of people anyway).

I'm just peeved off that I was not invited to his coming out party! *rants* But he's seriously NOT my type... and I'm not a necropheliac anyway.

Well IMHO, this is a desperate attempt by Rowling to increase popularity and sales of her series. She probablly came up with the idea, saw that the part with Grindelwald could be used as proof, and announced it at a press conferance. No offence to anyone, but I dont really like the idea of Dumbledore being gay as my political interests lean to the right......But its not my choice to make, so I'll let it go.

Hmmm . . . an interesting comparison.  One of the ongoing debates today is whether or not being gay is a "choice".    Not many people would argue that being black is a choice.  But they are still subject to prejudice from some people for being born they way they are.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

a desperate attempt to increase popularity in sales? hahahahaha omg, like she needs to have a desperate attempt to sell more books plz.

so anyway back on the topic I guess, there is a character in one of her books, I forgot his/her name but they was like the bad guy, or the evil person trying to harm the students and like I am just not comfortable with this fiction character that happens to be an evil person. I mean, I am offended that there are some evil characters in her books. I read books to read about bunnys and rainbows, and I am offended by any evil characters.

Ok, lets take a step back. See how ludicrous I sound? Why are people offended by fictional characters that happen to be something you were not expecting?

Hell yeah. The type of post I'd give reputation to on other forums. (though the rep systems are abused)

Are you kidding me? The woman is a freaking billionaire and her books are still in the single digit prints! Then there's the movies, which should bring in quite something.

If I was a billionaire writer I would totally work in little things like this. Just because. 3.gif
