Disfunctional Avenues?

Can someone clue me in on what's going on here? I've created two neighboring cities - one with industrial and one residential/commercial - connected by an avenue.

It appears that one of the following may be occuring:

1) Sims don't want to use the avenues, nor will they use a road that crosses an avenue.

2) The avenues aren't working.

3) Something I don't know about avenues that's causing the problem.

When I reconnected both cities using a road, things improved and people started moving in. When I forced the use of the avenue by cutting access to the road.. everything goes dead again. I thought avenues were nothing more than BIGGER roads - or cheaper versions of a highway?

I've crossed the avenue with roads - it's as if they won't touch it - not even to cross to get to commercial zones that are just across the avenue.

Is there a railroad crossing in your avenue? Sometimes it blocks the traffic.

    Nope rail isn't used.

I just created a bare-bones city with its own industrial zones and residents. Simple and easy layout, very small. Connected the industrial area to the residential with an avenue and the same problem happened. I bulldozed the avenue (no access popped up at this point in the residential zones) and replaced it with a road. Everything came to life. I don't get it.

the Avenue is hard to use if there's no intersecting street or roads/one way roads to act as a turnaround point for the sims to use.

Ok, since I didn't have the tools to edit the pic I just created a web page for it and uploaded it.

    It can be found here:

The picture tills a lot! you have no neighbor connections for your industry to get out of town . No connection no growth.

No. Replacing the avenue with a road fixes it. Also, I just played the Rush Hour Tutorial that comes with it and the avenue they had me place in that city also was not functioning when I went and played that city.

OK! Somebody SLAP me! It occured to me that I used some mods I had been using with the old SC4 - pathfinder mod - I'm now playing SC4: RH. I removed the pathfinder mods and whammo.. the avenues are working. I just bought SC4:RH last week after having SC4 for the last 3 or 4 years.

har har lol *slaps you* 3.gif.........from the title I thought you may of had a problem with NAM avenues, but as I was reading the posts I thought; it's another one of those 'just upgraded SC4 & still using old mod' problems. It was quite common when RH was first released. Good luck & enjoy.

Yea, it's a royal *** when you're slung into a new learning curve with something you're familiar with. I've had SC4 since... the first year it came out? 2003? I finally broke down and bought RH as a new toy to help forget the real life..

The problem was in perfect pathinding.. isn't the a network mod though that could be of use?

Also can someone confirm that Sims won't travel from one city through another to a point in a third city? I thought it could be done but everything I've tried so far isn't working. Three cities: City A connects to City B which connects to City C. City A and C are not directly connected. It's just plain too far or the game won't go that far?

Look in the Mods & download section for NAM

    https://www.simtropolis.com/modding/index.cfm?page=1&view=all

Before using it though, properly read the documentation that comes with it (there's a lot, but important that it be read).

Travelling from City A, through City B, to City C:

Only requirement is, that City B have at least 1 job. That's it. So long as everything is connected properly etc they'll travel through. Technically speaking though they don't actually travel that distance (least not properly-no Regional File exists to handle such data), the game to some degree takes into account demand levels & commuter numbers at the borders when calculating number commuters going through a city to get to another.
