I notice on the picture of the (near?) finished yard, that the normal rail line ends and has buffer stops at the end, are these removable for connection to the yard so it looks like the track is continuos?

Actually, I want to be able to connect the freight yard directly to the normal rail lines, like the grand railway station. We just haven't done that yet, that is one of the next steps.

Could you say what it is that you don't like? What changes would you make for it to be a good train station?

Looking good keep it up, however, as before maybe a crane plus some traffic lights as signals as well as an extra open area as a storage depot for the freight until it can be transfered onto road or rail depending where it came from.

Otherwise excellent stuff guys, I can think of a uses of it already. 22.gif

You are missing the inside rails leading to the outside rails. How does the train get to the outside rails? There are two sets of track, not just one. See picture on what I'm talking about. I like the freight yard. Can't wait for it to be completed. These train mods are great!

Here is part of the image from your link.

    /idealbb/files/Yard99.jpg

The green cirled cross-over is how trains would connect between the yard and the outside track. The yard itself wont have train activity as far as I know. It's just for engine and car props. After all this is a first attempt. More yards can be created late, in many shapes, sizes and possibly increased functionality.

I was hoping to leave the middle two tracks open and get the trains to use them to travel through the yard, what do you think?

There would have to be changes to the yard then or trains would only moving in one direction through the yard. If not something has to be done about trains that meet head on.

I don't understand why, there are two tracks in the middle, one for each direction.

I'm thinking you mean the side tracks with the green traffic flow arrows in the image below. Any traffic on the side track with the green arrows, must connect with the main line by way of the access track with the blue arrows. That is where there would be a conflict in direction unless the yard was altered.

If you just ment inter yard traffic that would be confined to those strips of strait track, dissappearing before making it to the access track then there wouldn't be a conflict.

In U-Drive could you have the option to change points/switches in the yard or are they just for visuals?

I was just thinking of allowing through traffic, ie in one side out the other, using the middle two tracks. Nothing fancy, yet...

Right now I wasn't planning on that, though it may be a feature we look into later. I think it would be very complicated, possibly involving new path files; also, I have no idea how U-Drive works with the switches. Maybe later.

Would a mod-squad member who would be willing to work on this please pm me with their e-mail so I can send the file over. I want the train yard to hook up with surrounding rail and allow trains to go through on the three straight lines.

Contact 7trumpets, some time ago he posted this.

Make the lot, and we'll make it functional 2.gif.

I'll even volunteer to write a custom path file for it, so that you can see the freight trains going all over the place on this lot.  It's impossible to create stationary trains, but the moving ones are relatively easy.

Just make the lot, and we'll make it hook up to surrounding rails.  I'm not totally sure what governs where along the border of the lot the rails must meet, but DM or teirusu probably know more about the applicable lotconfig property.

If you haven't gotten it to 7 yet, I'd be glad to mod it for you.  Just email the lot to me at:

thanks to you guys for working on this...this is one of the things that i have been looking forward to for a while....thanks for taking up the challenge. Question....is there a way to make it so that you can have the overlay texture all ready have the paths date with it...so for us who dont know how to make them funcionable can place them in the lot editer. instead of having one of you mod it for us...

Your freedom is the most expensive thing you have, even if you arn't the one that paid for it... Use it well.

Stardog just got the lot to me yesterday.  I should be able to add the transportation elements in the next two or three days.

Thank you to everyone who has worked on this.
Now I would like to try and make bulding blocks similar to Joerg's Airport.

I'll help with the textures if you want. I have some ideas about single track factory spurs feeding off of the main tracks as well as freight yard segments that can be arranged to form various shapes and sizes.

I think most of the textures you made for the yard would be fine, unless you were thinking of having one or three track spurs also.

Forgot to post a picture of the lot, here it is:

THIS LOOKS REALLY GREAT, but I think it needs some cranes in the lot. How else do you get the semi trailers on to the flat cars?????
Great project, your almost there for a 10 star lot!!!

Most factory spurs are single track. Basicly I'd make two types. I would make one that's parallel (could be a third track on the main line tile)
    /idealbb/files/Sidetrack01.jpg
and one that takes of at a 90 degree angle (with appropriate curve) from the main track.
    /idealbb/files/Sidetrack02.jpg
Crossovers can be placed on the main line so that the outer track has access to the spur.

I tried adding a crane but it just didn't look right to me; I guess if enough people wanted it I could add a version with it.

Trolca- if you could make textures for those it would be great. How do we want to treat these tiles though, should they be functional or just for looks (since Ind next to rail can use it already).

Functional if possible, after all the spur could be several tiles deep. Many industries not making contact with the main line would with the spur.

There seems to be some slight problems with installing this lot so here are some more detailed instructions:
    • Download Gizmo's train car props.
    • Only Extract TrainCar_props_G-Vx.dat; where x is the version number
    • Extract the Freight Yard zip; this includes a TrainCar_props_Families_E-Vy; where y is the version number (currently 1)

The TrainCar_props_G-Vx file contains the s3d files and fsh files (the models and textures)

The TrainCar_props_families_E-Vy file contains the exemplar files to put the props into the games and the version included contains the properties to add the prop families.

    • You also need the SmallRailTexts.dat (included in the zip)
    • The inluded sc4lot file

Hey mod squad nice, very nice. However scince you can do this with mods. Maybe you could make a Track that can have only 1 line instead of 2. While still be having like it has 2 lines. Simply put make it turn like the original 2 line track, but only have the 1 track. Here is a picture a set types of tracks that could be added onto the single line. These addons could be a seperate lot that could be put on the LEX. Here is the picture of what I am talking about:
    /idealbb/files/train idea.jpg
The green lines that travel in between the boxes are signifying that those ones could be places together to make a sing peice. Also another idea. The yard is nice but could there be seperate lots that you could build your own yard. having the single line idea. With having the cars pop-up like the other lot (GREAT IDEA, LOVE THE CP RAIL ENGINS AND CARS) Here is a pic of what I mean:
    /idealbb/files/Yard Idea.jpg
This is it hope you like it please reply on what you think.

    Thanx,

I like MTLT's idea, this would be very useful and good looking in undustrial areas of my cities. most industrial cities dont have huge rail yards, but smaller, more confined ones attached to a main line. i would definatly download this if it were done.

    Stardog13,

I sent you a PM asking a question about your freight yard a couple of days ago. Did you get it?
