what's happening with this thread?

Anyway, I am interested in doing a rec of Ottawa. I would like to show the city to ST and everything.  my Ottawa rec could rival jerseydevils Edmonton rec.

Only problem is the Bats. There aren't any bats of some of the famous buildings in Ottawa. IF you are good at BATing tell me. I think there are 10-15 buildings that should be bated. Also I would need some OC Transpo stuff too....

I live in Gatineau...

After the 9-11 attacks the US Embassy put in concrete dividers on each side of the embassy, effectively taking away 1 lane on each side and making our downtown traffic even worse.

The pics in the first post seem quite old, there has been a crazy boom of highrise apartments downtown recently. A few pics of that, maybe some pics of Gatineau 3.gif and a pic of the War Museum would be cool.

hey...i live in ottawa...have all my life.

heres a couple good links for historic ottawa rail and highway fans. just found them recently.

The Railways of Ottawa  and Ottawa Area Railways

King's Highway 417 Photograph Index  and The History of Ontario's King's Highways

heres pic i found of the old railway that led downtown circa1945. parliament hill is at the end of the tracks.

bigtejm7.jpg

heres the same area circa66 with the new trainstation being built and the eastern portion of the "queensway" connected to whats now "nicolas avenue"

bigrwgc8.jpg

and again later in 1969 with the highway finished and rails removed.

biglkov1.jpg

I combined them so we could see what was really going on for those of us who have trouble spotting the landmarks. i had a hard time placing some of these photos ive found. ottawa is very different then it was  60years ago.

i like Ottawa alot, not only because it's the capital of my favourite foreign country, but also for its unique look. I've been to canada once, but i missed Ottawa then, but next time, i'll come to see Ottawa.

There are also some very cool highways that are around the Ottawa region.

Hwy 416:  Newer, and has very safe standards.  Its more suburban

Hwy 417, or locally referred to as the "Queensway" is the main urban artery for the city:  There are plans to widen this route as well as constructing HOV lanes on each side of the highway.

Nice to see some reconition for the my home town 2.gif

Ive have an idea that all of us that live in Ottawa could make a cj about it ,

some people could make the buildings like the Parlement , Supreme court , Chateau laurier, some sparks street style buildings , The ugly but truly ottawaian Y-apartements

( The big brown things that are tall and shape like a Y) , the scotia bank place!!!, ( I like the leafs as well but , dont like them when they play my favorite team , The Ottawa senaters!!!!) ,

Others could build the terrain and another could build the city.

Also some can take pictures of areas and compare it to the sim city version!!!

Do you thinks it's a Good Idea?

I've already built a city of ottawa, and made the canals using the simgoober's BSC canals, the streets are laid out accurately, and ive even named them as i built each one so as a reference to where i am on my google map, except i added modifications of somethings id like to see in ottawa, i made metcalfe street a the confederation walk from parliament hill to the museum of nature (victoria memorial). The is a light rail on bank street on to wellington then through rideau street. and another line runs down somerset goes underground and then connects to Ottawa University, continuing east towards vanier, i'll have it end in orleans. Ive only built downtown/ the byward market and lower town. Im in need of the actual buildings, like the NAC, chateau laurier, parliament buildings(east, west and center block), the rideau centre/congress centre/westin hotel and future convention centre complex and the DND building. If anyone knows how to do BATs it would be greatly appreciated. =o)
