BETA 2 has been released, download here

Post your questions, bug reports & feedback regarding BETA 2 here.

Please read the list of know bugs and issues below before posting. 

- in general the tile-set of growables is still small, so it's normal if you see a lot of the same building type

- trees have not been replaced yet

- people & MAXIS automata (vehicles etc.) animations and are still enabled

- some animal animations are still enabled such as the birds at the land fill

- the rewards do not create a pop up message when unlocked

- news messages for MAXIS rewards are still enabled, game crashes when you choose to build reward here

- the deluxe police station doesn't create deluxe vehicles yet

- there are several BATs that do not feature nightwindows/lights

- so far only streets and roads have been changed, no other transports 

- Road textures are not 100% transformed yet, a few tiles are missing (all missing tiles know)

- Sometimes a tree pops up on the roads

- Several MAXIS lamps and stop lights on roads are still enabled

- the highway menu still displays the MAXIS icons, the same for rail, elevated rail and subway

- not all interfaces and graphs display the new zone colors yet

- the MAXIS intro video is still enabled

- U-Drive-It missions are not transformed yet

- the amount of pollution created by the buildings is set too high

- farms require you to zone big zones before they grow

    The main domain simmars.net is expired ATM, there is another domain, simmars.simvision.net, that's still running but no is updating it ATM.

    You would know how to operate a website?

    hmm, is it difficult? I don't speak HTML or java so programming is out of my league but if it's a user-friendly UI i'm sure I could find my way around i'm sure.

    First of all, Sim Mars Beta 2 is great! Good Job! But there's a problem with the new music... I can't find it! The readme said that there was a separate intaller due to the size, but I don't seem to have it. So, is it coming as another download? Again, Sim Mars is AWESOME and everything else seems to be working!

    Greetings.

    First let me congratulate you and your team for this promising mod...

    Problem is i'am unable to experience it.

    After the inticial instalation into the default folder everything seemed ok , i started Sim city 4 and the sim mars screen comes up , all good so far , regions come up and i imediatelly start a new region , here is where i stumble upon the first weird thing , a "my sim" bar is visible in the bottom of the screen (with all those things like "drive my sims car" , "locate my sim" all that) and i cant make it go away without having the game crash.

    I try to ignore it (even thought it disables every mayor tab in the bottom tab except the health/education and so forth indicators one) and start zoning and building to try and see the new buildings and structures i've been lookig so much forward to see...total disapointment as the only thing that shows when i build anything is a cardbox!

    I tried all kind of tricks to try to discover what was wrong (i didnt have any plugins installed prior to sim mars) to no use.

    Please , being in antecipation to see your wonderfull work , any help to bypass this problem would be very welcome.

    Excellent work you all!  A few things I noticed:

    a) Lack of farm variety. I know this is a beta, will there be different types of farm models in the future?

    b) Pollution. Maybe I'm just looking at it wrong, but it seems like the structures and facilities in SimMars produce much more pollution compared to their Maxis counterparts.

    c) I created the Valis Kasei map provided with the beta. Excellent work!

    d) Park variety. Again, I realize this is a beta, but more parks would be nice to see in the future.

    Sorry if this is not the right place to post this and/or some of these things have already been discussed, this looked like the best place to put this =)

    @muellerfamily: Yes, the music comes as a seperate download. The link is on the SimMars download page.

    @catualda: What version of SimCity do you have? Do you have Rush Huor/Deluxe with all patches applied?

    What do we have to do to use the beta, can we use a modded version of SC4RH or do we need to use a patched one with nightlighting, i was just never really sure on that

    Not sure what you mean with modded version of SC4RH, but you will need to have Rush Hour/Deluxe along with with the nightlight patch installed to fully enjoy the mod, so to say see the nightlights. If the mod works without Rush Hour/Deluxe, I don't know, this hasn't been tested. Since it has been created with the Rush Hour/Deluxe and all patches applied it is suggested to run it this way as well.

    When I did download SimMars Beta 2 verision it took over Sim City 4. Was that suppose to happen?

    @warrior: are you referring to the menu icons? If so, that is no bug, was the previous template I used for creating the icons, will eventually be adjusted to the newer ones without frame, but low priority

     Disregard what i said i simply cleared out my plugins file and all my regions than installed it.

    The beta is great!! I only had to play for 20 minutes to get hooked. My only suggestion ( for now) for the next beta is more medium density buildings, mostly R$. Oh, and maybe some cool landmarks like 'first landing spot' -> a rocket landed on the surface similar to the LEM.

    Ah, found it! Only thing is that I don't have any room left on my hard drive. =( that sucks, I really wanted to hear the new music...

    Mueller: Isn't Simmars only like 50mb? Clear some stuff out of your hd. And also, are you going to realease just the files for simmars, for us mac users out there?

    Bug Report: Can't have reward. Only maxis Ones. And they crashe the game.

    yeah that air pollution thing is bad but understandable i mean there are  no plants or trees to kind of dilute that. and i like how farms don't pollute so much because there are no fertilizers or pesticides used i suppose ( I mean its Mars right), BUT they almost never grow its odd.

    @warrior: Can you post a screenshot of the black lines you mean? Regarding the road texture: It doesn't work to use this design for the reasons I explained in the transport thread where you got the pic from. We'll have to come up with some new design for OWR 

    @simcity5_orbust: Basically you can start showing your BATs in the BAT-Workshop thread. The "How-To-Contribute" thread gives you detailed information on design concept etc. with lots of helpful info as well as some downloads. 

    @OffTopic: What exactly do you mean with releasing just the files? You mean without the installer?

    @somebody: First landing spot is a nice idea, I will add it to the list. The farms need you to zone big zones before they grow

    Missing road tiles are know already. 

    The pollution amount created will be addressed. Thanks

    If you removed the arrows from the textures and then made the arrows an alpha texture and replaced the maxis arrows, ( it is possible) you would get the same texture without the problems you had/have. I can't post a screenshot now, as I can't find the disk.

    EDIT: I just wondered why the road textures aren't alpha's?
