TPP Distress call

As you may or may not know, The Planning Pages is a major part of the SC4 Network Alliance. We host  at the moment a few projects giong on such as the Simcity Basketball League.

Of late, we have had several run ins with people who don't seem to take the site seriously at all, who have continued, against our wishes, to discriminate, name call, and abuse many basic rights that would apply on any other forum, including this one.

One such incident of many involves a former member named flyover. He was a staff member, until he was demoted (due to reasons I personally don't understand but the webmaster Zane did) After a while things were okay, until he was banned. Shortly after (Around the time of this post) he ran around the site posting extremely foul, grotesque comments attacking people personally who had no involvement with his ban, and angrily flaming sexual harassment related comments to many forum members at TPP. His IP had to be once again banned on several counts and in several ways, and photographed proof can be presented (but won't, due to its verbally graphic content)

This is being brought to the upper community's attention because there have been several (and by the looks of it, will be) incidents of the like (interchange, krio), and any help we can get in better monitoring or participating in keeping the peaceful community peaceful would be welcomed with open arms.

(I hope this thread was placed in the right board, if not please move it to the right one, and I apologize in advance should this be the case)

Moving to ST Related, where I hope you'll get good advice.

First off...this should be in the Community Going-ons...which can be dealt with later..

Secondly, it's been known on ST not to bring issues of other sites to ST since ST can not only not do anything to improve the situation of the other site, but also because it causes situations on ST which we don't honestly need. Not to shoo you away...I just want to ask the question...

What's the point of bringing up another sites problem when we can't honestly do anything about it?

(btw: I'm not part of staff so the true response will probably be different)

EDIT: Good Point N_O Body...

Moved this here as more likely to get administration attention.  These guys need some experienced people to help them with a problem child.  While we can't interfere or intervene, perhaps some advice can be given.

Thank you Nonny for recognizing my intentions!

Well if Vegas was on fire it would technically be Vegas' problem, but who's to let them burn?

Not begging for help at all, sorry if I came off that way, all that I was asking for as I said was just some support (Some people who want to be a moderator at the site... Anything to help rectify the problem)

And not to attack you or bring up anything negative here... But policies on some sites such as "Ban of any peoples mentioning the Planning Pages" that I've been told have been put into place in response to recent events... Case in point this is not a game, this is something many of us take very seriously (and should) and would just like to make it public that this sort of behavior is not welcome and we are forced to enact a no-tolerance policy to best deal with all of this (Since posting this on TPP would be next to useless)

Oh well... just think, all ST and SC4 groups you see around fall into one category without exception - they are all web-based groups that has no relevance to your RL, and no need to take them seriously. Some do take them way too seriously, and it always lead to a fight (for nothing)

Just update your CJ, talk of fun rubbish and thing will be all right.....

but still it's not advisable to bring in other sites' matters into ST :-S

    No problem patriots 4.gif

I'm sorry 2ch.net but ST has no relevance to RL then either. There is no difference between the two websites except that this one has more members and therefore is more active.

"Just update your CJ, talk of fun rubbish and thing will be all right....."

Not able to find a justification for that one there... What are you talking about?

I believe what he is saying is that we shouldn't take it too seriously.  Your CJ is a place for having fun, not wrangling with serious issues.  Have fun with it, and don't take it too seriously.  My apologies, 2ch.net, if I misrepresented your comment.

One of the things we need to be here is charitable.  This is a junior site asking for help with an administrative problem.  I would like to see someone in admin give him a hearing, at least.

Thank you, N_O_Body, for your consise yet well-written post, above.  I do believe that CKSmooth is looking to SimTropolis (and the Staff?) for some impartial and well-mannered advice to deal with a problem on his/her own SC4-related site -- not simply bringing another site's troubles to this site.

CKSmooth:  I would echo some of the advice already given concerning the seriousness to which someone places on any given game or gaming site.  It just isn't worth getting all "flustered and angry" over something meant to be fun.  Nonetheless, if you have a problem child/children that are wreaking havoc "amongst the natives", it must be dealt with accordingly.

It is NEVER okay to (and if I may quote you) <quote>discriminate, name call, and abuse many basic rights that would apply on any other forum <end quote> .  This type of behavior should not be tolerated and the perpetrators, if they cannot be reasoned with or made to change their ways, must be removed from the general population by whatever means the Site Administrator deems appropriate.

Does your forum software allow you to put members on moderation?  That is, not allow their post to actually be posted before first reviewed and approved.  This would be a good way to monitor content of certain members.  Of course, it is more time intensive but...

In my opinion, the management of your Web site are the people ulimately responsible for dealing with member issues as well as what actions should be taken against them.  As I stated above, NO ONE should ever be allowed to run roughshod over other members.  THAT type of behavior can NEVER be condoned and MUST be dealt with severely and harshly.

I know that the above may sound a bit dictatorial but if you are troubled by the type of people you've described, these types of measures must be taken in order to maintain any type of orderly status quo.

    CKSmooth, I hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Vandy

Thank you for the help Vandy. I am the (well, one of) the website administrators. we have a team of 6 global moderators who run the boards in this way (all posts with the above description are deleted immediately) and the poster is given a warning (we have a three strike rule, which becomes a one strike rule if the offense is serious enough, ie. "hacking" the website and messing with staff lines, I have absolutely no idea how this is possible since the site is engineered to not allow anyone but admin do that)

When some of the people were banned (IPs, usernames, and email addresses, making it VIRTUALLY impossible to even access the forums) they still find ways to access, post, and somehow self promote themselves, all of this trouble just to prove a point, whichever it may be. One such incident involved the webmaster being overthrown by a disgruntled ex-member. I have next to no experience to how these anomolies take place... But they do, which is why I brought up the message. The more staff we have, I figured the harder it would be for the disaster to happen again.

My advice is to deal with people however you need to deal with them, but to also understand where the problem is coming from, and to try to address it somehow.  Things don't come out of nowhere.  So try to focus on creating and atmosphere and "system" where people are naturally good.  Banning people generally does not fix the true problem.  But at the same time, no matter what you do, it won't please everyone.

Oh please, I can't believe that you even STARTED this thread here. You know that the problem with me should be kept there, and if it weren't for Zane, it wouldn't have existed at all. How do you expect me to feel after being banned from a site for saying "hell", and then having everybody on it turn against you? It's not a fun feeling, I'm sure you can understand that, and I don't even know why you're going after Krio, he didn't do anything to your site. You let all the *****s stay, and you just casually ban the older members, because you know that the *****s make more posts, although they're all spam. I will leave your site alone, but you haven't given me reason to, I told you that I wanted ALL of my threads removed, everything that I contributed, almost the entire games board. When you do that, you can have the peace that you desire.

    EDIT: you can't say n o o b s?

^^^ Nope. It is disrespectful, and often misused. (At least, that's what I think is the reason for it being blocked)

Nothing excuses what you did, Interchange and Krio was banned for breaking the rules, plain and simple, but his offenses weren't nearly as bad as your's. I'm sorry that you feel turned on but what you did was uncalled for. That's not getting even that's being a child. If you would like everyone to see then I'd be more than happy to post on here (It might get deleted... but whatever)

Basically had that happened to me I would've sucked it up. If the site is so pathetic and unimportant to some users why do you take these things so much to heart? I don't even know why you were banned, I was gone, why were you banned?

I'm sorry that you feel turned on

    What?

Everything excuses what I did, for see, this is the internet, it's not real, and you need to learn that. Your pathetic little site isn't real either, it's just computer graphics and html, that gives people a chance to talk, and it's people like you who get a power trip off of your admin position, and there's just something wrong with that. See a counselor.

what interchange did may not have been right, but if he contributed somthing to the site, and wants it removed, you should do that.

Just popping in to remind you both that there is a difference between seeking admin advice for a different site, and actually bringing that site's problems and bickering over here. Remember to keep it civil. 4.gif

This is indeed the internet; it is a part time hobby for people, not their real jobs.  However, there is a living breathing person at the other end of every keyboard.  Anyone who refuses to recognize that fact is going to find himself banned from a variety of places.

No one gets to act rude or insult people and figure they get can away with it because it is "only the internet".   Please refer back to the Simtropolis rules where it clearly states that being on the internet is not an excuse for jerk-like behavior.

An excellent point.  Asking for advice is one thing; bringing squabbles over here is another.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

...Interchange you need to go somewhere to cool off, you've got some issues with someone other than me and you're getting miffed at me. I meant to say turned off, or put off or whatever the expression is...

    Edited -- Content

You agreed to a code of conduct form before joining the forums, and by knowingly breaching it, it can be considered breaking the law. Neither me nor the other staff and members have a problem with the idea of bringing the issue to authorities, it's been done before.

SkiGeek: Right, understood and I'm sorry again, this is the last you will hear of the problem.

Posting those was a very bad idea, you know that the content on the site must stay pg13 and that is obviously NOT.
