Wow , Looks like the place has been growing.

Also the city is contrasty. It's bipolar in a good kind of way , The high rises and then low density residentials . Very nice creativity.

penguin: Thanks! Oops, yeah the grid...well I'll remember that!

Joetropian: I don't know, lol! THanks, yeah most of it from STEX if not all...come to think of it 1 or 2 pieces might be from Devotion, but doubtful. Hehe, sprawly I like that! The police station is right behind the big blue tower by the park in the middle. 3.gif Thanks again!

Benedict: THank you! Or, rather, thank jawood for the mall! lol thanks.

kelistmac: THank you very much! 9.gif

jacky: Thank you! More of it coming now...

Iggyman101: THank you! It was a long time loading but worth it.

    feliwi: Thank you! 3.gif

Shingure: Thanks! It sure has! For a few months now. 9.gif I tried to get a good transition this time, thanks for noticing. 3.gif

I'd say fix up the roads using the new road curves. They would look a lot better than what you have. Still it looks really good.2.gif

"Welcome to Candyland, a discount version of EYECANDY! Enjoy your stay, but sorry, no silk sheets, gonna have to use a burlap sack."

    Catchy...

    Town by the Riverside

This mosaic features Brookside (pop. 38,000) the commercial center of the northern river valley. It has many skyscrapers on the water as you can see, and gets its power from the microwave dish on top of the hill. Rowenta, the nations capital, is just down the river (to the right.) Oh, and Godzillaman, I tried out those curves as you can see, I really like the effect. Thanks for telling me. 9.gif

I don't know how realistic it is, but I can't exactly build up that mountain...even the road was too steep in some places! Anyway...you know what I'm gonna say...

    ~ENJOY!~

The downtown and the top of the mountain came out nicely, although I don't know if I like the 2 roads with houses. For being on a mountain, it seems like they should be a little more spaced out and have more greenery as they get further from the city. But then again, building on a hill like that is not the easiest thing. Either way, it looks great.

Eyes are getting cavities right now,

A mosaic? Indeed, that will be one comment sir. Have a nice day!

Schulmanator: Why thank you! I hope you're satisfied with the meal. Thanks! 9.gif

SimHoTToDDy: Thanks, and yes the roads look a bit like San Francisco has been transplanted and shrunk onto a mountainside. 3.gif I didn't have much room but alas, this is the result. Thanks again, and I'll pay your optical dentist bill! 9.gif

penguin: Thank you, that's my favorite part as well. Haha, thanks, that actually makes me feel really good...I just gotta get a little better at photoshop! 9.gif

NMUSpidey: Haha, thanks. Yes, you can never really tell, can you? Thanks again, and good luck on your Simlympic bid, Port Matthew is awesome!

By the way...you may not have noticed, but...

    CANDYLAND'S 1 year anniversary!!!

Took place on July 7. Today I decided to commemorate it by posting my first panorama update ever!

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!

    39.gif39.gif39.gif

    fireworks.jpg

Thanks to everybody for continued support!

Let's CELEBRATE!!! Special update today-first panorama!

Update - nature shots and panorama!

Finally, I've jumped on the panorama train like Eyecandy and come out with an awesome result! I hope you enjoy as much as I do. There are a few normal sized nature shots along with it as well. These shots are from Quintessa, by the way. Click the images for full size!

Let's start with the nature shots!

Ironbrook Bridge and Rose Island, Sharon Inlet, Quintessa.

    ironbrookbridgecopynt9.jpg

Boulder Creek Bridge, Sharon Inlet, Quintessa.

    bouldercreekbridgecopyem2.jpg

Finally, the awesome panorama! I really hope you enjoy it. From left to right: Industrial/hydroponic park, suburbs, statue island and bridge, west downtown, downtown apartment projects, east downtown and bridge, east city commerce center.

    portbiloxipanoramacopy2iq8.jpg

Enjoy! It's time for me to get some new material to show. Wish me luck! 9.gif

jacky: Thank you! I knew youd like the bridges. 9.gif And yay! 1 year on a journal finally.

penguin007: Thanks! More panoramas coming...loads of 'em. I actually am considering removing some specific maxis, like the blue glass midrise thats a weed or the highrise new york style buildings.

packersfan: Thank you! It feels good to have it done, I'll tell you that. 3.gif

Update time! Plenty more mosaics...some are very short and are barely mosaics, some are giant and are more like a banner, and some are panoramas. So let's see, I have about 5 mosaics and 2 panoramas to choose from for today's update...maybe a mixture, maybe 2 shorts or one long. Whoops, time for random.com. 3.gif All right, here we goooo.......

Ooh! Lucky you guys, it chose a long one. Get ready, cos' it be time fo'...

    In the Hood

I know what y'all be thinkin' "Woah I thought this was a big blueblood rich place!" No, it's not, and this goes to show that nowhere is perfect. However, This city DOES have better education than your ghetto stereotype, with over 95% of students graduating. No foo's here. 3.gif Many empty lots are scattered throughout the city, which are slowly being replaced by parks such as tennis and basketball courts to encourage more low wealth sims to move in. Oh, and as you can see, I'm doing borders differently now. The old ones were big and distracting, so yeah, enjoy the pic!

Thank you to all, and now time for the next phase of CANDYLAND. Can you guess what it is? It has a real original name...CANDYLAND-Year two! But I need a new catch phrase instead of "forget the insulin here" or "yours for 1 comment." Any suggestions?

Remember, this would not have been possible without you!

This next phase, which hopefully will last another year, will include more panoramas, a focus on nature shots and small towns, and better quality images. Don't worry, there'll still be the big CBDs and grids (to those who like them) but some changes will come as well as I finish the horribly lower quality version of Calioshire-Quintessa. Serious, I had 146 of the same building in the largest city (population 922,000!) the largest city I've built in a loooooooong time...since before Crossrivers even.

    HISTORY OF CANDYLAND:

My first city over 100k was also my first over 200k, and 250k, all about 3 years ago. I had this "city chain" all named Portland 1, Portland 2, etc. Kind of stupid, since I had about 30 consecutive cities of 60,000 people each, all full of simcity.com and maxis landmarks and money cheats. They weren't bad for then. Then I made my "The best of IDS" region and transferred them all over, hand terraformed them, and got Rush Hour. Then I built Portland 6 (or was it 4? or Portland 7? Nah, it was Portland 6.) and it grew because of new principles I had implemented. Then I expanded the region and built Hackensack and Nashville and Cancun, all over 300-400k. Then came Pineapple city, 600k. Then I built Coalington, a spoof of Province of Coalianton (really dumb I know) and also a spoof of Aesti Dominci by the same name and same city names. Just cruddy versions of otherwise good journals. Coalington took place about 2 years or so ago now, right before Crossrivers and was the largest region I've ever built at close to 30 million sims, the largest city of which was Laudenbergh, over 1.2 million sims alone and only half full. 5 other cities were over 700k.

Then came the land of crap, Crossrivers (looking back I'm really embarrassed)

Then came Queebly, land of calm, quiet, and quacked out cities.

Then came Verisymmetria, a major improvement but still mega crap.

    Then came Candyland.

Candyland, as you remember, began with Leavenworth, a farming region which remains unfinished (go figure...) After that came Khantayka, a totally messed up gridded out region of mansions next to condos and factories with no streets at all, I manually placed all roads before beginning (you can imagine my disastrous results) the traffic was great, but boy, was it ugly. towards the end I had realized a few things and began Pachuca, a short-lived Pacific Northwest region. It was shot lived because of the constant steep ridges and hills which made 20 foot foundations everywhere. That went nowhere and I began Calioshire, my best region to date.

It was a huge success, and everyone seems to like it to some extent. Now I am in the Quintessa stage, a lower quality version of Calioshire. Soon to be replaced by me getting a terrain mod and new rock mod.

OK enough of the history. Time for the FUN!

    Wheeeeeeeeeeee!!!! (auuuugh!)

Sick of feeling safe, normal, and healthy? Take a little visit to Redwood Mountain Amusement Park and fix yourself! I personally do not like rollicking rides, but my sims sure do! Take a look for yourself at this embarrassingly short mosaic (wider than it is long, but still a mosaic due to forum limits.)

    topnu0.jpg

    Enjoy! 9.gif

    Update!

This cj doesn't have too many replies lately, so maybe I can entice you with a DAILY DOUBLE! That's right, two mosaics in one update. If that doesn't work I don't know what will, maybe I'll become an introvert and not share anything. 3.gif Jk of course, but anyway here are two mosaics from Dumbarton Bay showing the wealthier side of town. This is far from a good widespread example however, just a small enclave in town. Without further ado, I present to you...

    Livin' Large!

These are the fabulous 19th century homes built by early oil and steel tycoons who made their fortunes trading their goods in Dumbarton Harbor. Now they are part of the National Historical Mounument Preservation Association (NAHMPA) Each one is preserved as it was a hundred years ago, complete with their original furnishings and decorations.

    topoc1.jpg

    bottombt6.jpg

I hope you liked that one! Here's another...

    Hitting the Links

So what did those billionares do for fun? Well, there is no lack of golf courses around the metro area with over 10 country clubs. Take a look for yourself at Forest Hill Municipal Golf Course.

    topqo0.jpg

    bottomfk8.jpg

This concludes DAILY DOUBLE! I hope you enjoyed both mosaics and am looking forward to know your thoughts, lurkers are welcome here like everyone else, don't be afraid! I know you're there, you guys are the explanation for the 4,500 views of this journal.

    ~ENJOY!~

Thanks anik! I just bookmarked it for future reference. 9.gif

    Update time!

Today's update includes the finished version of Quintessa (already I know!) and a mosaic of Dumbarton Bay's CBD. So let's start with the mosaic!

    Land o' Pomo

Dumbarton Bay is a thriving city of over 300,000 sims. It is a major industrial center with a large port which is used by over 100 cargo ships per day.  Notable features include Desmond Village Apartments (bottom left) and the port (bottom right.)

    top1rw4.jpg

    bottom1pa8.jpg

    Now, for the census!

    QUINTESSA:

    Res. Pop: 3,203,279

    Com. Pop: 2,556,111

    Ind. Pop: 323,020

    Largest city: Port Quintessa (922,663)

    REGION SHOTS:
