HAMPDEN ISLANDS

A BRIEF HISTORY

HAMPDEN ISLANDS is a small dependency of the United Kingdom and became an independent country in 1907.

Situated about 100 miles East of the Caribbean, the country has had a rough history.

The Capital Hampden Bays suffered a huge fire in 1911 and much of the town was destroyed.

1916-1917 saw almost 50% of the male population killed while serving in Nothern France.

1928 a Hurricane hit the Eastern part of the Island and caused massive damage and loss of life.

Germany decided to Invade in 1941, but after fierce fighting for 6 months, was liberated by the Allies.

In 1957 the country held its first election, George B. Largus bacame the first Prime Minister and oversaw the Countrys growth until his death in 1972. A large Memorial was built in George Town to honour him.

The right-wing Ultra Goverment lead by Dominic Awemi (born in Nigeria) now rules the country and is in a steady rate of decline.

    HAMPDEN BAYS

    HampdenBays.jpg

    CAPITAL CITY

    CITY CREST

    POPULATION - 12500

    MAYOR - DOMINIC AWEMI (PRESIDENT)

MAIN INDUSTRY - DRUGS, GAMBLING, PROSTITUTION

    MAIN EXPORTS - DRUGS

FAMOUS LANDMARKS  - ROYAL PALACE (1870)

                                                         - PRESIDENT HOUSE (1908)

                                                       - CAPITOL BUILDING (1908)

                                                 - ROYAL LIBRARY (1910)

                                                              - MONUMENT OF HEROS (1946)

                                                            - PARLIMENT BUILDING (1957)

    HampdenBays-1May.jpg

These days, Hampden Bays is vastly different from the 50's and 60's. Once theis thriving city was to tipped to become one of the richest in the world, through tourism and the islands other valuable source its oil fields to the north.

Today, 2006 it looks more like Moghadishu!!

Poverty, drugs, prostitution and killing sweep the city, all of it caused by the Ultra right wing goverment, under Dominic Awemi. All the profits go tho him and his small section of the city!!

    HampdenBays-22Nov-3.jpg

Awemi runs the whole island from the President house, he is the law, what he says, goes!!

    HampdenBays-22Nov-4.jpg

Downtown - Brothels, Bars run down Shops

    HampdenBays-22Nov-2.jpg

The city resembles a huge shanty town!

There are no schools, fire protection, health care or police!

Little electricity, sanitation and no water.

The transport system is non existent, the roads are falling apart, no trains and no airport.

Crime is the main problem, but it is not from the citizens, it is the goverment soldiers who plunder day after day!

    houses1551x395.jpg

A Typical house in Hampden Bays 2006!

For years the British goverment has turned a blind eye to Awemi, but something has to give, there are rumours that the British Goverment may seize Awemi and install a new President to rebuild Hampden from top to bottom!

    NEXT UPDATES!!

    Update 4

Largus Bay industry in a mess!!

(Potential to become biggest trading port in the world)

    Update 5

George Town and North Key Bay!!

    (Cancun of Hampden???)

I'm not sure if you've really got down what a right-wing government is... the closest real world parallel to the Awemi regime would probably be Zimbabwe, and I've not seen anyone claim that Robert Mugabe is a right-winger. Another possibility might be Venezuela or where Russia seems to be going under Putin - the problem you're describing with all the profits going to Awemi's government would imply excessive state ownership and control of crucial industries such as oil.

Political quibbles aside, this is a great CJ, and you've done some great work with just the base tileset. Keep it coming!
