Is Tilteded Mill Aware of Us?

I was wondering, does Tilteded Mill and EA know how many SimCity fans hate their new idea?

If they do know about how the majority of SimCity players hate this, then do they actually regard us as the minority, or do they think our opinions are valid and are willing to create a SimCity 5?

Had you read more carefully, you'd know that EA and TM are making a game that is going to appeal to large masses, like those who play the Sims, not us hardcore city simulator freaks :P

I remember reading from some interview that there is going to be a more original-like Simcity after SCS. Maybe after Spore. To EA and TM, we are a minority consisted of hardcore-fans and players, who propably won't buy the game. The majority in which the EA is interested in are the huge masses of people who have bought the Sims. That's millions of people, which is at least ten times as much as we have registered users here at ST.

Keep in mind, Tilted Mill is the developer.  They are under contract with EA to develop the game SC:Societies.  TM may have some licence over how much they can change the game based on feedback, or they may have none.  In the end, it is EA that says what SC:S consists of, and what is left out.

Almost every interview so far has addressed the fanbase issue somehow.

The Tilted Mill employees know about our distaste after their forums were flooded with messages.

They know about Simtropolis, have joined the chat, done interviews, and are surely reading these forums.

So yes, they know.  They were hired to put a new spin on the game, and they have said that if it is not popular, then the series will go back to what it was doing before.

So, is SimCity dead, or will this just be a worthless spinoff?

Ask that question again 90 days after SC:S is released.  I'm sure the answer will be much clearer by then, and will be based much more on fact rather than emotional speculation.  2.gif

That's something I really don't know...SimCity Societies, although a dramatic turn from what used to be SimCity, has good concepts. While I want EA to realize this isn't the SimCity 5 we're looking for, I do want Tilted Mill to succeed. I hope EA will make Societies a "spinoff" of SimCity, as The Sims 2 Life Stories is.

    Time to crunch the numbers:

Sim sales vs SimCity sales and you see whom they are trying to appeal to.Money makes the world go round and EA knows this.

I'm just so tired of being treated like this by companies... SOE did the same in Vanguard and Star Wars Galaxies, now EA is doing it with SimCity.

They are also aware that you're probably not a share-holder. Therefore you don't matter at all.

The bigger and more powerful these companies get, the less they care about the consumer.

Look at the media giants. They don't provide us with better news, they just package pretend news (Paris Hilton?) that we will all buy into even though it is crap. But man do they rake in the dough! We're observing the same thing here I believe. The days of quality are gone.

Well wouldn't the blades of the windmill be twisted because Don Quixote attacked them? 2.gif

I don't really have a problem with Tilted Mill, i liked Caesar III and the Pharoah games. But I would play those games if I wanted those game types. I wouldn't play SimCity.

I'd be satisfied if they came out with a SimCity 5 and called SC Societies just Societies, or even put a disclaimer that it isn't like the last simcity games.

I'm losing my faith in big companies like EA and SOE. Which is why I'm playing WWIIOL and Guild Wars even more now.

If big companies keep targeting money and little kids like they have been, they are only going to get less and less popular, like SOE has done over time.

In one of those video interviews something along the lines of 'if this one fails, then the next one will be more like previous itterations' was said. This seems to be an experiment of sorts. I may not like the game as I see it now, but like said before, this game is meant to appeal to a new set of users. If it fails, then we get our SC5. If it doesn't fail, then I think it is safe to assume that the series will not completely return to its former self any time soon.

Hi DavidBeebe, nice to see TM people lingering around, even with our constant complaining and insulting.

*Tilted Mill, yes they are aware, they are simply trying a new direction, they can always reserve it and go back to the simcities we know.

I remember reading how Maxis got letters from all those who played SimCity 1, and they read every single request and put many of them in. Unfortunatly, as Maxis grew bigger and got bought out by EA, caring was replaced with GREED!

Tell you the truth, I am VERY sure the EA/TM is very aware of us. If you at least watch the video (after it is done loading, mind you), there was mention of a "possible" SC, however its a relative possible at best.  Some of the concepts are very... well alien. I personally do not like playing The SIMs, it may be popular with millions of other ppl, me and there's quite a few out there, who has stuck with the genre of SC, are concerned... yes SC4RH (deluxe), was ingenious to a point to somewhat include some Sim's char's... but to have the entire game revolve around it... too far (I'll need a 'round-a-bout' to turn around, and SC:S doesn't include any.

So I guess SimCity is truly dead... I doubt Will Wright will do anything about it because he is busy with Spore, and I'd doubt EA would listen to him if he said anything.

As his signature says: Rest in Peace SimCity, 1989-2007...

    excuse the double post...

what are the chances of the game being Mod(dable) or BAT(ible)?

I know its still a few months out, and due to company EA doesn't authorize outside PR.

I think that folks are wondering (even with the 'new' direction), will SC4 be backwards compatible?

Tilted Mill has to be aware of us since we are the largest SimCity fansite out there.

The Tilted Mill members here are basically lurkers... like the majority of Simtropolis community. They don't talk much, but you know they're around.

    ok ok ok... repost...

I think once the dust settles, and the final product does finally become available to the masses, and ppl do try it, it may work. (I myself don't have the $50 or $60 to by a game I may or may not regret.) I myself went to college for Architectural Engineering and Design and URBAN planning, after the military, and its a hobby at best. Which is the reason why I've stuck to the Series in the first place, I didn't play around with the scenarios much only to get the specialty bldgs, until i found the easter eggs, and was able to put in add-ons from other ppl, which resparked my interest of SC.

The point of the matter is: I wish TM good luck on your endeavour with SC:S, and hopefully there still is SimCity 5 or 6. If EA ever decided to remake a SC4 type game, with all the corrections that SC4RH had, then we wold be onto something.

You hit the nail right on the head. Back when SimCity 1 came out, Maxis was small, and was their own company, now technically they don't exsit, they are now EA, a major company who's bottom line is $$$.

Even when Maxis was bigger, and not part of EA, I believed they did care about us, not as much as they did when they were small, but still care.

I just really wish they would change the name of the game to "Societies" and drop the SimCity part...

Also, so if this experiment works, will we see SimCity 5? That's my main worry, that we won't.

Yea, they are around, and they are watching, but are they listening and listening closely!

The people who want to keep this game going, the people that have stuck with SimCity for years, are not happy, in fact, they are P.O.ed!

As much as I despise probably having to wait another 4-5 years for a real SC5, it's better late than never. When I posted on Simcity.ea.com saying "sim city 5 late this year or early next year", I was wrong. This isn't Sim City 5...but I don't need to tell you guys that.

It is here because it is obviously in some way connected to the SimCity franchise, which means that it's news-worthy for this site.  Whether we like it or not, ultimately this is the next installment in the series.  Therefore, the forum is here.

Because that's part of Dirk's larger vision for his website.  He's gotten the attention of a lot people involved in these types of games and even though it would be impossible and impractical to even think about pleasing everyone it's still exciting to see what will happen next.
