ky72x: Nope, the Veyron is faster. Probably because it is British designed.

I'm pretty sure I heard the Bristol Fighter T was actually faster...

That Yank-sourced all-aluminium block has been fitted with twin turbos allowing it to produce... wait for it... 1012bhp. Yes, that's more than a Bugatti Veyron.

The torque figures are equally frightening. The Fighter T develops over 900lb ft of torque between 3500rpm and 6000rpm, with 1036lb ft available at just 4500rpm.

All of which is enough to propel the Fighter T from 0-60 in less than 3.5 seconds, and on to an electronically limited maximum speed of 225mph. Bristol says that if it removed the limiter, the Fighter would still be accelerating past 270.

The Buggati Veyron is the official Guinnis world records fastest but the fighter T could be faster and a new ferrari due to come out in 2009 will probably reach 290

Personally I love Lamborghinis the most, but I know those aren't the fastest.

Max power: 806bhp at 6900 rpm

0-1/4 miles: 9secs
Max speed: 242mph

Buggati Veyron: (Specifications subject to change)
Max power: 987bhp at 6000 rpm
0-60: 3.0 secs
Max speed: 252 mph

For this I've highlighted 3 important things.  Please do note that this book is rather old, which is why I highlighted "subject to change" and "potentially".  Understand, that there are 2 types of supercars: production and concept.  The koenigsegg was the fastest production car, meaning it was being produced in factories and avaliable to those buyers with deep pockets.  The Bugatti was the fastest concept car (meaning still in development) but, as it stands, I do believe the Bugatti is currently the fastest.  Here's one more tasty quote to get excited about:

"As for the far future, there's that 300mph barrier to break, and it has been predicted that supercars will produce in excess of 2000bhp, weigh 25 percent less than the current crop and could even hit 350mph."
