Stop Fighting!

some of the very things im targeting right now ive been guilty of myself. but im willing to stop, are you?? a little over a year ago, on 6/9/07, i joined ST. That day id been playing sc, but got bored and went on Simcity.com to see if sc5 was in the works. i stumbled upon the fansites, clicked simtropolis, and wallah, it was like magic. I saw this amazing community with this incredible feeling to it, like it was the greatest site in the world. I signed up right away. I remember how ST used to feel so magical, like disney kind of. Devotion/ST wars, flaming, fights..........none of that stuff ever happened. ST was so incredible back than......an amazing tightknit community. What happened??? I feel like im in the ghetto or somthing.

Guys, seriously, this fighting, flaming, sitewars, etc. this stuff has got to stop. Whose with me? Im guilty of these same crimes, but ive decided its not worth it to continue. Ive flamed at BATters for uploading crap, but really, how is that going to make them better? what if i give them some pointers instead of flame? wont that make things better? and what about these ppl who leave for other fansites. THEY ARE LEAVING CUZ OF GUYS LIKE YOU AND ME, who fight and yell and argue all day long. Guys/gals, this is a fansite! think of how idiotic we look to an outsider. Can i have that magical wonderful ST back please?

Wars are always good. Mankind will develop better weapons. In Great ST Wars BATters will develop better and greater BATs to beat the other sites. And we normal players collect the fruits: great bats and mods which will improve our game.

i totally agree, when i joined up 2 and a half years ago ST was great, I leave 6months ago and i come back cuz i started playing SC4 again less then a week ago and when i come back all this crap is happening. Seriously just stop.

We are becoming technologically advanced. Is it really that hard to not become advanced in your mind and emotions aswell? War can always be averted. Always. War is nothing but a means to try to quench a person(s) rage against someone or something.

Take a few steps back. Take a deep breath in, and let it out slowly. Do the same again. Really think, i mean really think about your motives behind behind adding heat and to and creating this large disputes. I'm sure once you finally do that, you'll find that it is silly.

Grab a piece of paper if necessary, and write all of what you think your motives for adding heat to flame wars, for adding heat to site disputes.

Anger. Hate. Loyalty. Disappointment. Or what ever.

Now take that paper in your two hands. Look at it.

Now toss it away.

Sigh. Isn't it interesting how uploads that are crudely done attract so much attention? Why not invest your energies into something positive. Many good bats sail by with barely a whisper. Some people only love to tear things down.

i agree with firebird, simcity 4 is just a game, let's put aside our differences to continue making it enjoyable.

I don't Bat or mod, and as you can see I don't post much either,I'm just a member of a community. I help others when I know how because it helps the community. I use sc4 as an escape from the daily grind and visit everyday to view some very talented people create things for a game. A video game,not a real life simulator that depends on everything being perfect.The individuals or teams behind these creations spend their own time creating things from an idea or real life things and no matter the quality,they don't deserve to be flammed. I don't know all of the sircumstances behind loosing the talents we have lost in the almost 2 years I have been a member  and I'm not replying to this thread to rehash them but what I have noticed is alot of negative crittisim towards many in the community and comments such as "simtropolis is dying" or "the new search sucks" make it difficult to remember just how great this community was when I stumbled upon it. I don't mean to offend anyone with my comments , it's just something that has been bothering me!

Now here's something to think about.

Things change. New things come along. Things are discovered.

Is that a good thing? When Steve Jobs and his assistant founded Apple, was that a good thing? Was the uprise of technology good or bad? Was the discovery of electricity a good thing? They all had their pros and cons.

Things change. Some people are touchy.

When they get hurt, the

"oh-you-insulted-me-I'm-dropping-my-ball-and-running-home-to-tell-my-overprotective-parents-who-will-sue-you-for-54-million-dollars-for-making-me-mad-and-you-will-spend-your-live-under-probation effect" comes along and the next thing you know, there's no turning back and you've lost a bunch of old friends. That's what's happened to the sould of SC4D. They overreacted, and they're mad at us because we angered them. So they're welcome back, but they won't.

Some people are stubborn. The internet is anonymous, and they can get away with it.

Now, about SCS.

TOTAL IMMATURITY.

People, you are smarter than that. Express your views from your experience, not an idiot. If you post a barrage of "DIS SUX I H8 THIZ IT SUX IT SUX IT SUX" you are spoiling your reputation. it starts out good, and can go up or downhill from there. Flaming is not the way to go. plus, you make yourself look like a moron, and it appears a dictionary and a third-grade enrollment would be right up your alley.

The reason that ST and SC4D are involved in so many of these conflicts is the sprawl effect. People flock to ST, found their own bases, those grow and feed from ST, BAT teams and other groups form, cliques form, they get extra-touchy, a conflict arises and they all leave for their bases to whine and pout. There's no point in that, I tell you.

If there weren't so many flamers to the exchanges, the cj section and other forums and there weren't so many "generic spammer lords" things would be better.

Don't forget people leave for other reasons too. RL can kick in or people just lose interest in the game, site or the design of the support structure. But RL is good, and one should not spend all day on the computer (I'm guilty of that sometimes, but I make up for that by going on bike rides or playing football, etc.) Do whatever it takes to maintain a balanced lifestyle.

Finally, look to Teddy Roosevelt when he once said: "Do what you can with what you have where you are." Sincerely sage advice.

Thank you Patriots for your courage, wisdom and awareness of this ongoing problem. It is the #1 reason why so many of the great Lotters, Batters and Modders have left this site. If more members were like you, I'm sure things would improve greatly. It's up to the community to make the change so I really hope that more members will follow your lead. This site needs more leaders like you. Once again, thank you very much.

Everyone should stop fighting... that's for sure. As for what will become of this site or any other site or trying to force a change in "atmosphere," forget it. The people that run every site on the web determine the atmosphere and this is the atmosphere the management and staff of ST have chosen (not the fighting - that is a temporary and artificial problem - I mean more generally). Other sites have different atmospheres or specialties and people will naturally gravitate to different places for different reasons. In fact, most of us will continue to participate at multiple sites and enjoy different aspects from each - the lively big stage here at ST, the top custom content and more serious/mature crowd at SC4D, the Spanish-speaking community at CSC, German-speakers at SimCity Plaza, witty banter at SimPeg, etc...

What people need to do is let go of "the way things used to be" and make peace with the way things are.
