Alrighty im back from my fathers day excursion and am about to get this thing back on track, on the to do list is fix that door if i find it needs fixing, upon further inspection it is exactly like 9.8ft tall, a normal door runs aproximately 7ft. Beings things in sc4 are typically stretched we will call the average door 8ft, and since this is a mechanical door it could be large to accomodate equipment. I will play with it, I think the problem is that light is coming inside of there for some stupid reason and it shouldnt be so it makes it seem large, but the floor to floor height is 14ft which is pretty typical so I dont really understand the difficulties im having.

As far as rendering to the correct scale, well that will be all and good once i figure out why i messed my scale up so bad in cad, lol ive been doing it in ft the whole time just not thinking about it, the building is about 100x100 plus a parking garage that is 100x80 and it stands about 364ft tall, converting that to meters means it roughly a 3x4 lot so i need to go into cad draw a couple 16x16meter squares or 51x51ft squares.

As for the garage and cars I think Ive decided to just attempt a simplistic car model in cad (ive never tried before and for good reason, but dang it im ready to give it a go.

Everything I do is in generic units...even when it ported to FarCry or HalfLife..it doesn't matter. Though typically for FPS games I have to size things a little smaller. My typical floor height is 4, doors are 3. In FPS doors are about 2.5-2.25. Anyhoo I have now realized that certain people can do glass-steel better than others..and some do residentials better than others. I am definetly not the GLASS STEEL GUY. Good job, this looks awesome.

joerg-the link in your signature doesnt work, can you give me a link in pm?

if the door is a public entrance, i suggest a little smaller, but if not, i guess this size is fine. i love how we are making such a big deal of a door lol

It's great to see you here again! Even when you were starting out you had some great projects. I'm sure you might even be able to redo and update some of them, especially the Space Needle (not that they weren't completely awesome to start with). You know, your current building reminds me of something I drew in an architectural drawing I did a little while ago. I think it's posted in the Rate One Image thread. ESP, maybe? Keep on keeping on there, joerg! TopCliff

Hmm ok, so are we talking about the doors at the base then? If so, I think I might be trying a new base with rotating doors or something, further more maybe a large mast on the roof. Hmm pics soon i promise.

Well I've talked about the door a the base.. In my opinion door like that is more fitting for the tech needs right at the roof rather than entrance to the building. Down there it looks first of all oversized and secondly a bit to small (cause it is the only one) to handle the human traffic of the building of this size.

Ok while I ponder the entryway here is a bit more eyecandy, parking textures are now made, a few more custom roof textures, and i need opinions on the communications mast, (it probably needs more detail).  Anyhow the doors down there really have me stumped because there isnt a whole ton of room to go with a bunch of doors, unless i completely rework the base..... My new idea is to open it up and make the lobby kind of like an atrium or something and have it be sort of open air.

BTW thanks for the car links.

Oh and the white square base is proportioned to be exactly a 3x4.

    image000nx2.jpg

I really think I impressed myself with the parking garage and roof textures, they are all hand made based on top down renders.

Even the sky bridge has its own custom roof texture that was hand photoshopped.

The base is going to be tricky, i dont know whether i want to just build the entire thing in cad or try to mess with custom lods and the le, or just risk it with basic lods and the le.  Opinions?

i like it with no door 3.gif

that roof texture for the garage is incredible. for the door, i would suggest taking half that space, and making it identical to whats above, then take the lower half, and put two or three of those swivel doors that spin around. thats just my sugestion, feel free to follow someone elses or yours.

dang that parking garage is good! you should render it by itself and release that stand alone on the STEX. we dont have very many mid sized parking garages

It's really important that you take previews that are accurately scaled.  Right now, you don't know what it will look like in the game.  How well the window mullions, the railings, the parking lot lines, the details on the textures, etc...

It looks like the parking garage floors might be too high.

The garage floors are roughly 11ft which is fairly typical, and makes them just slightly lower than the floors of the building, I just rendered this at 795x1400 to see what you are saying jason.  It seems to small to me but I will let you guys diagnose.  This is a zoom 5 render with the white base set as a 3x4 it just seems sooo tiny..... Hmm anyways here is the picture.

I'd  have to agree, it does look kind of small.  The floor heights look about right, though...

Maybe, try adding a zoom five screen shot in the background of the image, that usually makes the previews look better... 19.gif

You're right, it does look like 4 Times Square = Conde Nast Headquarters! I remember getting a private tour. Maybe I'll talk about it later. Also, that looks awesome! A little off scale to me, but that's just me! Am I right, or am I left? TopCliff

The office structure itself looks great! However, IMHO, the garage looks exceptionally inadequate and undersized for such an office building; it may be better to leave it off of the model altogether, as to prevent it from looking like an afterthought.

Hello Joerg, excellent model and the size of the building seems ok for me. 29.gif

At the same time, i have to agree with DuskTrooper, the garage does not agree well with the

    building.

But I repeat it, the building is fantastic!!!44.gif

Hmm I really hate it when buildings feel just too symmetrical, which is why I added the garage. As for it being an afterthought, chances are even in real life it would have been one. Anywho im not trying to argue, i just hate to remove it after putting all the work into it, plus I really think you guys will like it once filled in and surrounded by proper textures and a good base. I suppose I will get out a nice zoom 5 screen shot and compare. Thanks for all the comments, and wow didnt even notice its resemblance to conde-nast.

How old is that model? I remember seeing it in earlier stages, but that was long ago. The base is great, the walls are great, and the top is spectacular, albeit still lacking something... maybe it looks a bit too much like it has absolutely no purpose and was added there for sheer w00tness. If you manage to keep to the basic shape and refine the rooftop so that it looks more plausible, then this would be a helluva great building all over! Sadly, right now I have no idea what to do. Well, maybe each of those rings of "fins" should be attached to a smaller cylindrical section, respectively - the rooftop of the tallest one could then carry some roof junk and maybe a spire or antenna... I dunno... anyway, awesome work so far!

Thanks guys, and thats exactly what i had in mind for the roof, this is an older building designed without sc4 in mind it was never meant to be rendered from a top down perspective, hence the utter lack of anything on the roof. Unfortunately at the moment i have given up on getting bat for max to work and ive tried contacting a few people about it but no luck at all thus far so i guess modeling new stuff is about all i can do.
