Hey guys, I've been reading alot of CJ's lately, and figured why not start my own, well here it is. I figure to do bi-daily updates, with plot lines, characters, and hopefully a weekly newspaper. (I'm going to really put my photoshop skills to the test here. =P) Plenty others aswell. To start things off, I'll provide you all with a screen shot of the region I am working with. (Named Addison Heights of course.)

addisonheights4wu.jpg
The region I'm using is quite large, infact this is just about half of it, considering I haven't developed any of it, I won't show you guys the rest untill I do. Addison, the capital city, is front and center.

cityplans8pu.jpg
Here is a close-up of Addison, plans for zoning clearly visable. Downtown will be mostly Commercial, as most downtowns are, both big industries and the Airport will be seperated from the city. Mass Transit is scheduled to be added to the city after the main infrastructure of the city has been set. Seawalls are to be added as soon as construction on the city starts.

Next update scheduled for: 05/13/05

Please comment, and don't be afraid to suggest anything, I'm new to this, so suggestions are great. 1.gif

Enjoy.

    Mini-update
    In responce to your comments.

The Big Z: Thanks! I'm excited too, this will be my first major undertaking on a city since Simcity 3000.

mambomumba: I'm going to put all my learned experiance with Photoshop to use in this CJ, hope you guys like it. I'm probably going to start developing the upper residential sector, and move southward toward the downtown area.

Darmok: I will do my best to keep the updates on schedule, like I said it all depends on how long I work, nd how the day went. I'll try my best to get an update posted tonight, there is a possibility, however. Oh and, Darmok, do you use any demand mods in your CJ's? Currently I am not using one for this CJ, but would it be smart to use one?

    sloppet: Thanks! 44.gif

Compromise: I'm going to my best to keep updates regular. Wish me luck, haha. 19.gif

Just an FYI, the weekly newspaper will come every 3rd update. So every 6 days, approx.

Should I use a demand mod? I dunno...

    Update 01: Terraforming the River.

    In response to your comments.

Rob_Blake_4: Thanks! I hope you enjoy this update. 3.gif

    The Update
Plans have been laid out for the city, and major steps have been taken towards the development of Addison. The first course of action was terrafoming the Commercial and water front.

    cityplans8pu.jpg
Though beaches are a nice addition to a city, the mayor, Gary Baugher felt the water front can be put to better use. Plans for a beach are a possibility in the near future, as the city grows.

    riverfrontterraforming18er.jpg
Seen here is the already constructed seawall, terraforming for the future park system is under way.

    riverfrontterraforming24pd.jpg
Terraforming continues, seen in the lower right corner of the screen is the soon to be named bridge.

    riverfrontterraforming34ft.jpg
In many places the shoreline was expanded, the possibilities for a vast river front park system rise ever so slightly. 9.gif

    riverfrontterraforming48kw.jpg
On many parts of the river front, zig zag fjords were created to allow more space for park and other various amenities.

    thenewriverfront5as.jpg
The finished water front, giving the Residential and Commercial shores of Addison a clean cut look.

    Next update scheduled for: 05/14/05

    Enjoy. Questions/comments/concerns? Post 'em!

[edit:] I hope my new signature isn't too big, I'll make a smaller one tomorrow, but for now I must sleep. Good night guys!

Well, this is a very promising CJ... but one bit of advice with the graphics - can you please not use (almost) the same colour for parks and industrial... it's a bit confusing.

Also, PEG's industrial seawalls would look great on the lower shore, but you have to plop them right close to sea level. But I assure you, the result will be very nice indeed.

Three things: get a water mod, and a terrain mod, as well as a rockmod, unless you like the brown rocks.

Looks promising, I like what I see.44.gif  I am going to ask a n00bish question: How do you use the roads for terraforming?42.gif  I see it all over the place, but it makes no sence to me, if I am missing something that is staring me in the face please tell me.29.gif  Anyway, this looks good so far, can't wait to see more of it.

Okay, when you plop a single road tile, it will flatten the land. Plop multiple ones next to each other = flat land without destruction of buildings, unlike doing it with the Mayor Tools or God Mode.

Bad news, I haven't had much time to work on my CJ, so I'll have to push the update back to tomorrow, along with a picture update, Addison will be releasing their first newspaper. I'll also respond to all comments. Sorry guys, work has taken up alot of my time the past few days. =(

Not only does placing a single road tile flatten the land, but all corners and intersections flatten automaticly. so far this is better than either of mine.

Will be interesting to see how this layout plays out over the course of development. Yes, it's a bit difficult to make out the difference in color between industrial and parks. The terrain looks great and you could have a lot of fun with it if you like.

DocJones One question though: How do you run those seawall under the bridge?

there are two pieces that are meant to go under the bridge in the seawall kit
they occupy only one space but take up 2 or 3 visually for either roads, rail or avs and highway

GaryGB--you are doing a great job on this cj i just know develpment is going

Looks great so far, can't wait for development. can't wait to see how it develops, and what it develops into. Realistic metropolis or skyscraper jungle?
