I gotta admit this building is too fancy for my personal taste, but you sure got talent. Keep it up!

patriots_1228: you caught me just as I was going to post some pictures of an old project I had...  And yes, all this is done in 3ds max 9 and some of it in auto Cad... like the next previews (I only did the floor plans in auto Cad, the actual modeling in max.) 19.gif

This isn't really an update, just some pictures...

A semi-preview (I don't think that the sun and sky is in the right positions for sim-city...)

And here is one of my personal favorite renders (I donno why) And is also my desktop 3.gif

Huh?  Anyone else getting a similar message on the start of max?

    ]Dear Valued Customer:

Thank you for contacting Autodesk. In a continuing effort to improve your registration experience, Autodesk is currently upgrading our customer information systems. Because this is a significant upgrade, our automated systems will be temporarily unavailable until 12:00 AM EDT on Monday, June 18.

It goes on explaining some more stuff, but this here means that max ain't gonna work until June 18th, I think... sorry. 15.gif

I gonna try to get it fixed if at all possible though.  Probably not gonna work though, because it's a thing with Autodesk and not my computer.

Edit: I'm gonna redo my computer this night, so hopefully this problem will be over and I'll be able to export models to the game... without an unknown system exceptions and Error 6's...

Mikeaut1: Thanks for the support.  The one above may be released, but later.  Got some stuff to do now.  Still want to finish that egg project, and may fave an actual project as a job in the near future.  So, I'll try to release it eventually. 19.gif
patriots_1228:  Hey! Thanks for the support.  As for the old project, I may do it, but I'm first planning to finish this egg project and there is a chance that I'll get an actual job in working 3ds max for a university... 39.gif which would be top priority, but it's still only a possibility (one that will turn out good, I hope)

As for now, I only need to sort out some last minute computer issues (the longest and hardest part for me because I don't know a thing about redoing computers) like the video card... Every time my computer screen changes, it looks like the Gmax scanline renderer, with a big ugly line moving up the screen to change it, lol.  So no Bat for now... 14.gif

    Incredible work!

I love the desaturated texture, it looks much more realistic than the previous one. Seeing all those realistic reflections makes me wish I had 3ds Max. My buildings would look better and I could do those great renders from different perspectives.

The building's scale is proper (floor heights at least).  The thing is that it still looks too big for the game.  I think it's because the window panels are too big.  If you scaled it down by 50%, then there would be two panels of glass per floor instead of one, and I think it would make it fit better into the game.  Or you could add more mullions to the current size.  If you added more to the current size, you could make them thinner and it would look better.

The new texture looks a lot better.

The new building looks really good too!

Hanson784: Thanks for the support!  3ds Max is great with all the reflections and stuff, but the only problem is that it's not very reliable when it comes to Bat... 34.gif

Jasoncw: Making it smaller would be easier on my computer, but adding more mullions would keep its size.  I'll probobly go with just adding more mullions, or until I get my computer to work properly...  Thanks for the support, though! 19.gif

Anyway, so far I'm almost done getting my computer working properly.  The only problems are that some applications cannot work, like simcity... gives me an ACCESS_VIOLATION error each time I start it, if it gets past the startup screen. 46.gif So, still trying to solve these last minute issues, sorry.

Wow man this is absolutely excellent and mouth watering.

The window texture is incredible and these buildings are absolutely revolutionary!!!

When I went in here I thought oh, like the London City hall or like the Gherkin, but comming in here and seeing this is mind blowing! Keep up the incredible job!

What are you using to do the 3d editing?

patriots_1228:Thanks for the support!  Yeah, I could have picked a better city to test it out in. 9.gif

    Update

I rendered the Egg building into the game, and I don't like the results:

    Day:

    day

    Night:

    night

Some issues I'm going to point out.  The building itsself is fine for 3ds max.  It would take a while to render, but it's all fine.  Gmax doesn't like it.  The lod is way too big for the normal size and it doesn't render at all.  So I just scaled it down by 25%, because it only worked at this size.

Next issue:  Night library didn't work.  Because of this there are very little night lights.  Also, because the the library did not work, the sky color did not change.  So it is reflecting a brightly lit day sky at night, giving it a strange radioactive look.  And the lod's are making lines along the bottom of the building, but that can be fixed.

I took the time to examine the other building test.  There are tons of mistakes:

    mistakes

    1. Where's the shadow?  Aren't thick metal antennas supposed to cast shadows?

    2. It looks like the sun suddenly changed its location here, just did a 90 degree turn.  Shadow problem.

    3. No shadow, once again...

    4. Where did this come from?  Is that pole giving off a backwards shadow?

    5. Once again, no shadow.

    6. There is a shadow, but it's in the wrong place.

    7. The shadow is in the wrong place.

    8. Why is there a llama in my town eating the plants... lol 3.gif

    9. This may be just because the detail is too small to really see, but none of the tables are really casting a convincing shadow.

Anyone know a fix for these?

For the LODs, when you import them into Gmax, either check, or don't check the scaling option.  I don't remember which.

For the other building, what did it look like during your preview renders?  If I had to guess, I'd say that you just need to jack up your quality settings.

Jasoncw: For the egg, I'm thinking that the building is just too big.  Because it's original size was 1600m x160m... and 192 m high, which is (I'm pretty sure) more than gmax can handle without problems.  The only option left is to scale it down and work with that.

For the other building, the building looked fine in the preview, which was a draft preview:
    draft
It's also much darker (I think?) in the previews, so maybe I accidently changed a setting before rendering... I'm not really to sure.  I'll try again tonight and see how it comes out 19.gif.
    Thanks for the suggestions!

Come to think of it, I know other people have exported LODs bigger than that, but they did have problems. I don't know what they did though.

Yeah, for the smaller building it seems like you changed some settings or something.

Sim shady: Haha... too bad I deleted them as soon as I finished the test. 15.gif  Thanks for the support!

Jasoncw: I decided to try again now and to do something else... I merged this file into a new scene, redid the night libraries, etc, and forgot to turn off the log exposure control... but everythin is fixed now.  As for the lod's... I'm stumped.  I'll do some more testing later, see If anything will come out.

toxicpiano:  Good idea, I'll ask around.  Thanks for the support!

edit: never mind the lod's... Gmax does a whole lot of thinking before anything much happens... got them rendered 19.gif.

    Quickie Update 2

I re-rendered the tower with all the shadow problems.  It looks fine, except that I forgot about the log exposure control... so it doesn't fit in the game at all.

    Day:

    day

    Night:

    night

As y'all can see, I still have quite a bit of work to do an this project, on the egg project, and I also have another project that I must do, and quick (it's not mandatory, but it'll look good on a resume 10.gif)

    Enjoy!

Beta version is done and rendered! (after two unsuccesful renders that gave me little white crosses all across the screen, dunno why) It is full size, I think I'll redo some parts of it, though...

Hmm.  The night library still didn't load.  This is strange.
