First, allow me to direct your attention to this New York Times article.

But you don't have to read all of it.  This is the important part.  Allow me to quote:

Electronic Arts and Id announced that they would begin releasing popular games for the Macintosh simultaneously with Windows versions.quote>

Bodes well for those wanted to get their mitts on SCS.

EA does not develope Sim City Societies and has no experience with porting games to Macintosh.

Traditionally, ASPYR MEDIA ported games to OSX for EA and LOKIGAMES to Linux. There is no SC4 for Linux because Lokigames got bankrupted while SC4 was released. Today, LGP ports some EA games to Linux - other company.

I don't think that EA will start quickly to port games to other systems and porting companies cannot start before a game is finished for Windows. I think Aspyr Media will port SCSocieties to Mac again if Tilted Mills want a port. Most Mac versions are ported by them.

Due the experience of SC4 it is good to wait with a Macintosh port. The Mac port of SC4RH is based on a very early Windows release while there are updates for the windows version that are missing for Macintosh. If they wait a bit with the Mac port, the bugs may already be fixed.

Hmmm...nothing...it's a blank page, so in the URL I see "Login" and delete it so it only says 12apple.html, but that's where it says Apple's making Safari for Windows. Do you have the link correct?

Seems that things are going to change a bit, Goaskin. But you are right in that there is an issue in that EA isn't developing the game directly. I don't know exactly how what they're talking about in relation to their other developers. Either way, however, I see the new development as a good sign. 4.gif

@livinginthepast: You got the right article. It's not just about that, it's sort of a varietized aritcle about Mac stuff in general. Look at the last paragraph. It's a blurb, but a very heartening blurb nonetheless.

I really don't like to break the news, but...

It's been more than four years since the last all-new SimCity game, the SimCity 4: Rush Hour expansion pack, hit store shelves. Today, though, Electronic Arts confirmed the series will return with an all-new installment, SimCity Societies. The game will be released solely for PCs this coming holiday season, with a price and rating to be announced.quote>

Good riddance. I don't like crap like SCS cluttering our nice Macs. On the flip side, maybe they mean "as opposed to the video game consoles".

That's how I read it. The Mac is never mentioned when platforms are listed. Games for Macs follow games for the PC.

FINALLY! EA came to its senses Although the news is good. I really wish they could do it as Blizzard does with its games by releasing only 1 CD/DVD with both Mac and PC installers 4.gif

These are not straight ports by the way, they use cider (a fork of WINE I think), so they only work on intel machines.
