Hi. All those airports are just great, but I have one small question: are those airports a lot files or do they generate air traffic like the original sim city airports??

RHF: 26 gates, that's 6.5 times more than mine! Small and comfortable... Anyway, take a look at quert's airport for the terminal building and plane stands.

Island

The Istrine City Airport and Harbour. The airport has nine plane stands, and space for three large ships and two fast-freight. The area is governd by Istrine Port Agency.

Harbour

Some space for containers...

Ships

And two beatuies of the sea.

planestands.jpg

Up to nine jets, varying in size from the Embraer ERJ-135 to the Airbus 318 can be accomodated at the terminal.

Private

The private terminal would probably be the first meeting with Istrine for most of you, wouldn't it?

Well there is a simple reason for that KingTitan... It's funded.... "privately". Other than that, i have updated the city tile with residence so it is more real-imo. I may post an update soon I guess.

I've always loved big airports, so when I started rebuilding Nyhaven, the city's international airport was one of my top priorities. First an overview shot:

airport1.gif

As you can see, there are six main passenger terminals and a general aviation terminal, with two pairs of runways on either side. Now, a closer-up shot of the longer, southern runways:

airport2.gif

Each runway pair has a number of exit taxiways and three parallel approach taxiways to handle the huge amount of traffic the airport's 100+ gates and cargo facility generate. Now on to the general aviation area:

airport3.gif

Nyhaveners love to fly, and this is reflected in the number of available private plane stands in this part of the airfield. This is also home to the airport's fuel farm and maintenance/storage hangars.

airport4.gif

Most of the parking in NHN (as the airport is known to the IATA) is in these six garages, with a small economy/employee parking lot just off the airport entrance.

airport5.gif

Here's the hub terminal of Columbiair, the national carrier of Lower Columbia. The airline's disctinctively-painted planes pull up to the terminal's 24 gates from all over the world.

airport6.gif

The southern three terminals are newer and have enough room for some of their gates to eventually handle such jumbo jets as the 747. Pictured is the far wing of Terminal 6, which is actually the first terminal one encounters; the terminal numbers decrease as one drives around the outer access roads.

airport7.gif

Here's the cargo facility, which handles all of the freight traffic that passes through Nyhaven by air.

Sorry if this has been asked already..........

When you build these large custom airports, do they effect your whole region? You know, your commercial cap relief? Does it help more when located in the large city? Or can it be put in an adjacent city?

No you need to use the airport shuttles... airports only work in the city they are built in

from xiziz's SWAP airport pack. Inside there is a 4x4 lot i believe is the size that looks like a bus station but acts as an airport for your city. Quite useful as it looks like a commuter coach station to take people to your large airports however it give you the commercial relief cap etc etc

I'll have to look for that. I downloaded some stuff from the STEX CD, but haven't started on a new city as of yet.

hey guys... i saw all these great airports and decided to post a picture of my one.

this is the smaller of my two airports in the city where i currently working at (the larger one isn't finished yet :-) )

the airport is located in the center of a large industrial area near the port... most of the flight traffic are cargo flights

^The RMIP airport packs place the grass filler tiles in the parks and recreation menu. There're not zoned for airport, and show up green on the transportation view.

webmaster: Nice airport there.

looks nice! can you fill up the empty zones between the terminals?? because in real life, airport space is very rare, so every thing is filled up

webmaster76: that airport looks great, nice terminals and runways and taxiways, the only thing i don't really like is the open space between the terminals, were the roads are. you should try to fill it up a bit. other then that it looks great!!

thak you guys for the nice comments :-) ...and tommiej and natuurzoon... yes, i will fill the space between the terminals soon... it's not the final picture, they have something changed since i've taken this picture...i just working on it ;-) ... at the end of the terminal is now the main tunnel entry for my large bay tunnel connection and between the terminal i will build some airport-hotels and offices of travelcompanies and airlines... i will post it if i finished the whole area.

do you guys follow a scale for the runway length and try to achieve the standard 3000+ runway length?

Nanumea Scale, 1 Tile = 24m

Ofc there will be those that dont use scales and just fit what there able to fit etc.

for me it depends on what airport im building, some have 1000m runways(which basicly makes STOL a requerment to land there) up to the 4000m Runway at Six. though 2000m is the most common length i use. Ive yet to use any other scale than my own. i just found it impossible to fit a 4km runway in a 1:1 scale and still have toom for approachlights and such, as a large tile is exactly 4km across they would end up in the bordering cities

^^ thats my plan though, to extend my runway to the bordering city, or to the sea (if i find a way to create a tunnel bellow the runway)..

i know it would be too much to ask, but if you can kindly click my sencond link (metropolis mosaic) you can see here my runway is at..4.gif i wish you can make any suggestions as to how to make it better..or of international standard..as for now, i content myself with the fact that my ciy in general uses the 1tile=16m scale but the airport runway uses a 1 tile=24m scale (so my runway would be at least 3000m) 9.gif

I'm new to this whole thing.....what is the Airport Pack and where can I get it?  I would love to build my own airport and get away from the generic one that Maxis packs in the game.

Thanks!!

Matt

I'm trying to find a wider variety of airport terminals but all of the airport packs on the stex offer a limited selection of terminal styles. If there are more terminals, could someone let me know? Also I want to create a large airport but space limits that( even on the largest city in the region). Is there are way to expand the largest city tiles to make them bigger, so I can have a huge airport plus and a huge city? If not, I was wondering why?

@waway635: Nice Mosaic, you must have worked really hard to put it together :)

Only thing that i can see imediatly that can be improved is the Runway Markings and Lighting system.

The runway markings are explained in the readme of RIMP 2 Small Airport Edition Vol1. So are the lights. id sugest using the ALSF-1 System, though the airport could without a problem be as capable (with the exception in really bad weather) with an SSALR or SSALS system. you will want to follow the steps for a Precision Instrument Runway, be it Canada's(which seems to be the one used in most the world) or the US-American one.

A closeup might help on giving some detaild tips on runways and apronlanes, though i belive if i remember correctly that they looked good enough.

@Tacmedic3098, Im just going to sugest the basics for making an eyecandy Airport, and il aslo link you to the newest pack yet thatactually is capable of providing the airport service.

There are readme's included that show how youre supposed to set you runways up per Canadian and US-American standard, for other countries id sugest using Google Earth and looking at airports, which is a really good way to get started too, building an airport after one that exists in reality, that way you have an prettey good overview of how the taxiway pattern looks and where the runways go.

Look below here for the links.

Ive linked to the packs directly, and also to the author since they have released some other stuff aswell, like new skins and models of aircraft.

Ok, here we go, first the important onces for making a Visual Eyecandy Airport:

RIMP 2 Small Airport Edition by Volitare  <-For Runways, Taxiways and other Tarmac Areas

ACE Modular Airport by ace_bovenopdeberg  <-For Terminals and Jetways

To add functional elements the latest version to use would be:

SWAP Simwings Airport Pack, which is Joerg's prefab terminals, Thallasicus modding and my first bats, the coustum swap terminals.

Some users have problems with this pack, and Swamper77 released a support file located here.

Misc Airport stuff that might be useful:

AMP Scandinavian Airways MD90 by Fukuda  <-Aircraft

Shuttle to the Plane Pack by The Airport Team, Spearheded by Pilotdaryl  <-Pilotdaryl has also produced a lot of airplane skins.

I am also working on several new things, including some Airbus'es(the aircraft manucaturer), 1x1 airport enabled lots for use with the eyecandy lots and a few military jets.

Edit, Bgans1982, il answer you tommorrow. ive got to get to bed now. you posted while i was writing.
