Awesome airport, I'll avoid nitpicking about the runway length, anyways, where did you get that terminal building (biz jet) and those cargo buildings on the far right side of the air field?

Thanks Bighaben, I know my runway is too short, it's not actually as short as it looks, the it's hard to discern exactly where one picture ends and the other begins, but I'm still thinking about extending it and taking our some houses in the process. The large hangers can be found here https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=16560. The two biz jet terminals aren't actually airport buildings. The modern looking one is actually a high tech industry plop and the one with the parking lot is commercial but I don't remember where they were found. In all likelihood they would be downloaded from the stex though.

Thanks for the link, they may appear in a future project of mine.

And I see that now that I looked at the pictures again, the runway should be long enough for a 737, but a 747 may need a little more space.  Still, it's up to you, and nothing needs to be perfect.

Hehe, on AVSIM, search for 'FlyTampa Aerostat', there is a pack of MD-11, MD-80, 737, 747, 767, 777 and A320! Just import them into GMax and lot them =D.

EDIT: That doesn't seem to work anymore. I'll scan AVSIM for you and I'll link it if I find them =).

How are you guys getting functional airports in different "cities" in your region?

I thought the airport had to be in the same city tile as your city to have any effect?

This has always been my biggest beef w/ SimCity 4.

Is this possible to do? (i.e., "outsource" the airport to a different spot in the region and have its effect spread out to the neighboring cities??)

I'm currently working on a much larger airport, and have abandoned the tropical island theme due to lack of interest (by me). I won't reveal too much, but here's a teaser image from the airport's main entrance road:

Enjoy speculating!

Well, here's a gargantuan I promised a few months back. It's absolutely massive. If you've seen a larger one, you're obviously a habitual liar.

Welcome to Gen. Douglas MacArthur International Airport!

MacArthurOverview.jpg

KDMC is the largest airport in the world. It has four terminal buildings, 237 gates, and eight full-length concrete runways.

CentralClover.jpg

KDMC is served by a major freeway, Interstate 33, and a smaller route, US Highway 38, which intersect at midfield. Both are the only means of access to the airport. Interstate 33 has central express lanes that run the length of the midfield.

AirportTunnel.jpg

Tunnels are used to enter the midfield area, which is completely bound by runways.

AllTerminals.jpg

As mentioned, there are four distinct terminal buildings, A, B, C, and D. They are connected by an underground people-mover, allowing for easy access to and from any particular terminal.

TerminalStreet.jpg

Each Terminal has an identical street-side layout. There are two wings, one housing ticketing, the other housing baggage claims. Terminal D has an additional international customs area. In addition, each terminal sports a pair of parking garages, making for a grand total of eight.

TerminalA.jpg

Above is Terminal A. It houses 61 gates.

Terminal A:

  • United Airlines: A1 - A61

 UnitedLineup.jpg

KDMC is a major hub for United, which flies a variety of aircraft into KDMC.

TerminalB.jpg

Above is Terminal B. It includes 57 gates.

Terminal B:

  • Northwest Airlines: B1 - B23
  • Alaska Airlines: B24 - B33
  • Delta Airlines: B34 - B48
  • WestJet: B49 - 57 (satellite concourse)

 WestjetIsland.jpg

WestJet is KDMC's newest carrier. WestJet serves both American and Canadian cities from here.

TerminalC.jpg

Above is Terminal C, which is critically acclaimed for its architecture. Notice how the concourse resembles an airplane in flight. Terminal C has 58 gates.

Terminal C:

  • Horizon Air: C1 - C7
  • Continental Airlines: C8 - C26
  • Atlasjet: C27 - C36
  • US Airways: C37 - C58

 AtlasPark.jpg

Unique to Terminal C is its outdoor concourse area. It is roofed by an invisible glass, and passengers often wander outside for fresh air.

TerminalD.jpg

Terminal D is the international terminal. All international flights are routed through this terminal.

Seventeen foreign and domestic airlines have gates located here.

Terminal D:

  • United Airlines: D1 - D9
  • Aeromexico: D10 - D13
  • US Airways: D14 - D17
  • Delta Airlines: D18 - D21
  • Continental Airlines: D22 - D23
  • Northwest Airlines: D24 - D29
  • Singapore Airlines: D30
  • Ca

Absolutely Stunning Airport! That must have been a ton of work. I also like that you figured out which gates are which. Truly an inspiring post.

"If you've seen a larger one, you're obviously a habitual liar."

Was that a medium city tile, or a large one? If it was a lrage one, then kudos. Medium one, then KIAX will give you a run for your money (Planning on filling a whole tile =D.).

I would like to comment on an earlier airport a few pages back (the one featuring a hillside airport with a runway and taxiway over a ravine)...

I think this is a novel and fantastic idea. Unprototypical it may be, but I commend your originality and innovation. The runway deviations are absolutely fine, however they were a little sharp. No runway is ever level...well....apart from water runways hehe

The Hutt and Neongamer where did you get your embankment / cutting walls from? I only have the JS Seawalls and they are getting a little repetitive!
