Ooh, just what I've been waiting for! Nice work so far, dedgren! (Would it be too much trouble to request a couple different runway numbers for those of us with CJs in the Pacific Northwest? I'm fudging Nyhaven Airport's existing runway 11/29 now, but it will soon have a twin...)

KALE Straton - Jenkins Intl Airport

Straton - Jenkins Intl Airport is located on the south-eastern edge of Nausessa, on it's own man-made peninsula. It is connected to the mainland via a small island, connected by a highway bridge and a railroad bridge. KALE has space for 75+ GA aircraft, including a runway built for GA aircraft (9/27). For airlines, the main terminal has 26 jetways, and 50 stand alone spaces for parking, as well as 8 outdoor gates. It has two amin runways, 18L/36R, and 18R/36L. normally 36L is used for landings, and 36R for takeoffs. The airport also has 3 large hangars, and 2 150ft control towers. And now, some pictures:

[Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport]

A short view of the only airport in the island of Sardegna, located in Manterian Sea about 120km away from the coast. The airport of Olbia Costa Smeralda is small airport, with about 1,700,000 pax, using a single runway. It's the hub of Meridiana. In summer it handles a large amount of flights, due to the turistic attractive of Sardegna and Olbia.

Aerial, with the small village of Alghero on the south and the southern suburbs of Olbia on the north.

n.b.  Also posted in Voltaire's RMIP-2 thread

I'm close to completing all the textures today.  Here's a teaser...

assortmentteaserbd1.jpg

What I would like to do is flip the completed raw textures to someone who would assign IDs to them and then LOT them (the textures will be organized by lot, so that part should be really pretty easy).  I'd love for that to be Voltaire, but he/she seems to be MIA.  If there are any volunteers, please contact me ASAP.  You can take all the credit (please give credit to Voltaire for developing these great textures in the first place, though), post them on the STEX* under your nic, etc.  I have so many other things to do, and this project will drag on for weeks unless I can get someone to step up to the plate.

Thanks in advance.

David

Voltaire's RMIP packs would need to be noted as a dependency.  -DE

What the hey, it's a veritable bumpfest!

The ortho textures are now all being worked on by the runway team.  I'll be sending them the diagonals.

runway33teaserii7.jpg

tonight.  Wide and diagonal runways on the LEX and STEX by June 1st?  It's a strong possibility.

Check out what we're up to over at 3RR [ linkie ] and on the thread we've spun off for the project [ linkie ].

Take it easy.

And how do you do it? Putting those custom thingys together, I'd sure like a link for that!

And a guide, perhaps.

I gotta start reading books again - and browse the forum!

Here is Sunnyside-Natureside International Airport. It serves the two neighbour cities of Sunnyside, SU (currently undeveloped) and Natureside Island, NA. This is different from the city of Natureside, NA, another city that also has its airport pictures on this forum. It was built between 2002 and 2006 in a partnership between the two governments of the Republic of Natureside and the City-State of Sunnyside and costed about 4,000,000 Natureside dollars to construct. An unusual and unique thing about the airport is that the main freeway to Natureside runs directly through Sunnyside territory without border control; therefore, the highway has no exits or entrances through the entire length between the airport and Natureside. The airport lands itself is sort of a seperate jurisdiction, being ruled by a committee made from politicians from both countries. Because of security issues, a concrete and stone wall surrounds most of the airport.

img465/1552/sunnysidejul92311808583iy0.png

An overview of the terminal area at the airport. If you look closely, the airport has a stone wall enclosing the airport for security reasons. The wall running in the middle also seperates the area where Naturesiders are permitted to enter without customs control and the area where Sunnysiders are permitted to enter without customs.

img511/5422/sunnysidejul92311808583tl6.png

An overview of the gates at the airport. If you look closely here, you will see some miniature taxiway sign props, as well as the VASI indicator for Runway 18.

img511/7263/sunnysidejul92311808584zo4.png

This area is the General Aviation and Airport Administration area. There are a few hangars for the small amount of airplanes that use the airport. There is also a VORTAC transmitter just next to the airport control tower. If you look closely, you will see a fire station behind it with some unique airport fire truck props made by ripptide. Beside the fire station and the control tower are the fuel tanks that store aviation grade fuel for arriving and departing aircraft. It is surrounded by concrete walls to prevent explosions from damaging the Airport Administration area and the General Aviation area. Beside the fuel tanks are some parking spaces for airport employees.

img362/6471/sunnysidejul92311808584cd0.png

Runway 18 is self-explanatory.

img362/6480/sunnysidejul92311808584qw1.png

Runway 36 is self-explanatory.

Hope you had a good time looking at these pictures!

UPDATE:

Recently, the airport has completed an expansion of the airport. The expansion included building two new satellite concourses and extending the north-south taxiway to the end of runway 36. This expansion will allow faster operation of the runway in comparison to the old layout as well as increasing the amount of space avaliable to handle more planes.

A picture of the two new satellite concourses.

img233/1365/sunnysideaug11231181092wt0.png

A picture of the taxiway extension.

Although slightly off-topic, everyone knows about that airport fire station i was talking about earlier in the above pictures? The lot was designed by me, the building came from a member of the BLaM group, and the fire truck props came from ripptide, a member of BSC. There were actually a number of ripptide's fire truck props lying around in my plugins folder, including some diagonal versions of the trucks and some never-before-seen models. Some of them have been already converted from props into functional automata by Swamper. I am not sure however what prop pack these mode;s might be in... I used DATPacker to compress my files before editing, and so therefore i could not tell what prop pack it belonged to. Here is another picture of the airport fire station, as well as a counterpart for urban, non-airport areas.

Happy viewing. =)

This is sort of "almost an airport..."

We're grinding the last of the wide ortho runway lots through the lot editor.

leteasersy9.jpg

Almost done with this phase!

We're looking for a few good beta testers for the ortho lots, which we hope to have in the testers' hands by Thursday of this week.  Go here [ linkie ] if you're interested.

Not to disturb anyone... but it doesn't look realistic to have large planes landing on runways without ALS. Is it possible to have the current RMIP ALSF and SSALR models rotated 45 degrees just to make diagonal runways more realistic?

I have a question:

Why such giant airports if only one city benefit from it? Or is there a way to have the whole region to benefit from it?

=P

The game is unrealistic that way... many people design these large airports though to act as "eyecandy", that is, something that's there mainly for good appearance, like the landmarks, for example. We try to pretend that the airports are doing something, but usually they do nothing. In my case though they are a huge drain to one of my city's budgets, mainly due to the lots having construction and maintenance costs.

Custom airports like the ones people, including me, have shown here are mainly for appearance. The ingame unrealistic Maxis airports are functional, but they look way too small to handle large planes, which was why many people built these ever larger eyecandy airports.

Please read above for information regarding the fire stations. The airport packs are from Voltaire and Ace, with several modifications.

Please be polite on this forum, or else other demands will not be answered.

here is one from my CJ

khbair1.jpg

Khobar International Airport, a main gateway into the Emirate of Khaled.

It has 2 terminals so far, the old one is undergoing refurbishment while the modern one is used for all flights. It also has a Cargo terminal which is at the bottom.

It is also located quite close to the city centre which makes it convinient for travel but unfortunately the airport is getting too small so either the option is to expand this one as there is some room at the top or else build a new one out in the desert.
