Sorry, but people keep saying the graphics will improve, but it ain't happening.

I'm no game developer, but I know the process. Once screenshots are released, the team is basically done with everything visual, and have moved on to touch-ups and fixing programming.

Now, don't get me wrong. You may see some minor changes, but the way some people here have posted, they expect the graphics to change massively between now and release. Trust me, you don't want to get your hopes up, it won't happen.

Just a little heads-up...

That is not true, the first SC4 screen shot looked terrible, nothing like the game ened up looking like. I don't know if it will be good or bad, we'll just have to wait.

Maxis does typically release screens sooner than most companies, but still, some people on these forums sound like they expect the game to look like GTA4 by the time it's done.

Careful there, if you backpedal any faster you might fall down and hit your head.

Do you like the screenshots? Because realistically, it's unlikely they're going to get much better than what we've been shown.

At the end of the day, the first Simcity 4 pictures looked better than Simcity3000. The first Sims 2 pictures looked better than the Sims 1, and the Rollercoaster Tycoon gameplay didn't change much, it way mainly the graphics and more features added.

These picture look worse than Simcity 4 IMO. I doubt that it will change much, as the gameplay has changed as well, offering nothing that I dreamed Simcity 5 of being.

Thinking about it, I don't think that this is the next Simcity, but it could be more like The Sims Life Stories, which does a similar thing.

From this new game, I think its you see what you get. I just hope that a Simcity 5 will be released in 2009.

Why does one drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Why is delivery by boat called a cargo and one by land called a shipment?

If you look at the VERY first images of SC3K, you'll notice a massive change from the later images and ultimately the game itself. SC3K was the first SC game to try going full 3D before they realized they couldn't pull it off and revamped the entire game.

    You guys are funny.

True fans don't care on graphics. It's gameplay > graphics. Escpecially in simcity, you always heard: it's the gameplay that matters. Now with few screenshots, you guys are blaming how ugly the game looks.

Shame on you ST community! I tought you were better guys. Do you have any idea how much would the realistic 3D game need a great computer to handle it. Do you have no idea how there is no interest on building the SC with uber cool graphics will bring satisfaction in a few % of all community, well common. And the guy commented how more "realistic" looks vice-city (which doesn't) but look. In vice city, you have a city and that's that. Well the problem is, that you wan't to have huge metropolies in the SC. And you remember how laggy was SC4 if you had ultra huge region/city. Now think how this would be in SCS.

A "true" fan would know that the SimCity series is all about detail and realism. This isn't detailed or realistic.

Guys, it's probably an alpha build. At worst, it's an early beta. Graphics are obviously not what they've been working on. For a simulation game like this, graphics are the last thing finished--they need to get their engine working perfectly before that.

As much as I dislike some of the gameplay changes announced, the graphics are right on par with what I'd expect at this point in production.

Everyone KNEW GTA4 would be amazing hence the amazing early screenshots. EA know we're all gagging for a new Sim City game and I'm sure these pictures are an anti-climax to the real thing.

Whats the point of City Journals then? Sim City is about detail and realism. You try to build a city and make it look as good and as realistic as possible. SimCity is about building a city and making it look good. SimCity is not SimCity without detail and realism.

Lets look at it this way... If SimCity is only about gameplay and not what it looks like, then you would be happy if every building was a box? I mean since graphics and detail dont matter to you, then you would be fine with just building a city and making it work correctly but never look at it again?

Thats not what SimCity is about. In SimCity, you want to build a city that is as realistic as possible and as functional as possible. Then you want to look at what you did and say to yourself, wow, I just made this!

    Thats what SimCity is about2.gif

If you look at the first screenshots of ANY game they look completely different... I really doubt SCS is even in the beta stage yet. I mean, look at the first alpha screenshots for StarCraft, for crying out loud...

Obviously anything can still happen. This seems to be a very early version, like some kind of conceptversion.

I hope it's a late April's fool joke. And we will soon get REAL screens of a city that can actually compete with gta 4, not gta 2 :s

And you know this...how? The history of many great games, including the sim series has shown otherwise.

Because all game development works  that way and companies aren't allowed to release early screenshots of things underdevelopment. 21.gif

Seriously, just image google "beta" and "(insert name of game here)". You'll find a startling difference between the two. (And yeah, any gamer should know that the first release date given for any game is incorrect. You always add another year to that date at least... 3.gif )

    Starcraft: Before the memories ...

    Before...

And I think we all know what came after...

A slightly upgraded version of the same thing!

Then after that, they changed their plans and went with more of what we know of as Starcraft today.

(More screenshots of Starcraft's early developement and of diablo as well can be found in the following links...

Haha, I'd forgotten how much Starcraft used to look like a demented version of Warcraft II on LSD. 3.gif

I have usually found that intial screen shots are BETTER than what you actually get since the devs usually just have one small portion of a game loaded and can bump up graphics
