Wow, I think I'm just being a deluded optimist here, along with everyone else, but that game looks pretty sweet. Does anyone remember what happened to Championship Manager when the new guys took over? The developers jumped ship and made Football Manager King... think we have something similar here? Aight, the circumstances are different, but it's similar to say the least. But anyway I think in the face of SCS we're all just being overly optimistic, that blog guy is probably capitalising on that... a pretty game is just that; a pretty game. Here's hoping it amounts to something good though. Please use the Edit button if you would like to include more information but no one has posted after you yet.--hym

How is this game going to effect SimCity fans on a long term base?

I hope The Sims 3 is a stripped down format. I can't understand how it works right now. It's far too complex. I'm a casual gamer and have little time to understand what 'Click the left mouse button' could possibly be imploring me to do. If Will Wright really wants to appeal to the casual gamer and attract a bigger fanbase, I suggest he strip The Sims 3 down to the bare bone and allow the computer to do everything. That way we could watch, and it would be much easier; and therefore much more accessible for tards like myself. At the same time I think the computer should decide when I get off my ass to get something to eat, and when I go to take a piss. /mindframe of SCS's new target audience

Just call it Sim City Tycoon and let it follow the fate of all its other namesakes, barring one or two maybe (RCT).

If you guys actually want change, sitting around doing internet-based stuff won't work. The only thing you could really do, aside from direct action campaigning (Which I've never seen anyone except the most hardcore of gamers pull off), is not buy the game. The amount of people that will inevitably relent and go 'Oh well I'll give it a shot' mean that this probably won't happen... it's not a dig at Tilted Mill, it's just saying 'This isn't what I expect of Simcity'. Maybe one day another developer will pick up where they left off and give us a proper urban simulator. Look what happened with Championship Manager when the new guys took over... the old development team jumped ship to another publisher and gave us Football Manager. Football Manager sells by the bucketload, it's old namesake is a complete disaster.

What you see is what you're getting..

Shelving of Sim City Franchise?
offspring_dude01 replied to offspring_dude01's topic in City-Building Games
I'm getting pretty worried now to be honest, there's already heaps of people going 'Ohhh I'll give it a try; which is exactly what EA would love. So, go ahead I guess, and make the only viable option of protest we all have redundant. -
Shelving of Sim City Franchise?

I feel almost the same way. I do have a social life. But, I mean, hell I remember playing Sim city classic when I was a little kid.. and the rush of excitement from heading to the store, buying the new incarnations of sim city, plopping them in my disc drive and becoming absorbed. Ah well, won't be doing that for awhile.

Let's face it, it's awfully nice to see so many people TRYING to be optimistic; but judging by the game's incredibly simplistic nature and cartoonish graphics, and Tilted Mill's (Dire) reputation for making games that don't last over two months without being chucked in the bargain bin, I think it's safe to say Sim city will die with this 'outing', if you even want to call it that. EA will see that this new meshing of the Sims, with a very stripped down version of Sim city, doesn't sell well. People either want the Sims, or they want Sim City. What's so hard to understand about that? Seriously, I don't get how plain, ridiculously, slap-you-in-the-face obvious this is. EA will judge in their infinite wisdom that the franchise just 'doesn't appeal to gamers anymore' and isn't worth continuing. Instead they'll concentrate on the Sims and Spore, which is definately profitable enough to allow them to dispose of Sim City. They've done it before, they'll do it again. Sorry guys. I'm off to give Civilization 4 another spin, right after Medieval II.
