Your vision of what Simtropolis 1000 could look like

Ok so basically I think we need a guage to kind of see what people are expecting.

This is my minimum expectation.  Simply an image from google of a realtime city viewing software.

This is in my opinion a decent level of complexity and if rendered in real time with shadows and lighting it could look amazing.

I think it should be SC4 taken to the next level. It should have 3d graphics, better game mechanics like non radius services, better scale, and at least an improved grid.

I think that it should look similar to either the 1st picture here or like GTA IV

this looks nice. its from tycoon new york

I've had this thought for a while, but I'll post it here because it's more relevent and won't get burried.

There is no reason that an LOD-style shell could not be placed around ALL buildings as an overlay for lighting effects...much the way ray-tracing is faked in gmax....and make the brightness of it a globally set variable that is a function of the z variable. All buildings will render from raw textures making texture-matching much easier....no more guess work on how to make a wall that conforms to maxis defaults.

I think transparent windows could be a monsterous problem...lighting compounds this. For nightlighting to be 'dynamic' in that it behaves like real light, it must be rendered...and this is murder on game play.

Night lighting could be faked in much the same way it is in SC4....

This would be amazing.

This is another shot from GeoSim where joerg's pic is from.  Some more bells and whistles and we've got a winner!

Can't we keep this to one thread? I mean, I support ST1000, but I come here to talk about Societies, and this is a forum for Societies.

Cities should be able to be built atthis kind of scale-

FinalFar.jpg

That would be epic!

God I can't even image the nightmare for the computer. People, we gotta stay realistic! All these stuff you've shown are rendered and static stuff. Something as dynamic as SimCity couldn't handle these graphics. We're not in 2015!

I agree with Joerg's idea/image of how I'd like the game to look. With 360 views plus an optional 'skyline' view to see what your city's skyline actually looks like from a distance. DIAGONALS!! Lord knows it's about time Sim City could allow us to place buildings along angled streets. To be honest, I'm not all that fussed about street level shots and it would destroy BAT's as I doubt the BAT's could be converted to street level views but maybe, who knows. I also think the game should come with a few pre-built DETAILED AND ACCURATE real-life cities. Obviously New York would be top of the list ;-) The God-mode needs sorting out. I'm no terrorist but when I want to destroy my city, I want it done properly! A puny tornado or fire won't cut it. I want an Armageddon!

Some pics like the ones joerg and I posted or Hanson's Google Earth-esque pics might be doable in a few years. The only thing I'm concerned about is the scale of the game with those graphics. I've always wanted scaling to be near-perfect which we haven't seen, yet... and an improvement in graphics or the shift to 3D can hinder that.

Virtual Philadelphia is great. If Simtropolis 1000 could look like that, I'd buy it. Even if it was exactly the same as SC4 otherwise, I'd still buy it.

Of course, there will be a lot more new goodies with ST1000. That just sweetens the deal!

Thanks, patriots. I like your BAT's. But the SC4 game makes placing diaganol buildings difficult and growing them impossible[?]. It needs to be made just as easy as placing a 'straight' building and allow buildings to grown on diagnonal plots.

I always envisioned games to be like a drawing, artistic, realistic cartoon like. I like things to look like a realistic drawing that is unique from "real life" because every now and then I like to be reminded that it is still a game.

Threw this together in 30 mins in Trainz:

trainz2007-06-0914-40-36-89.jpg

(There's about 6 miles of that in the route.)

If I, a 14-year old with ADD can do that, then surely an entire publishing company like Tilted Mill can do the same.

Simtropolis 1000 will be another blow for Open Source Software. w00t! 44.gif

Go for a similar style of GTA 3...like evryone says...this game can be real...but were not in 2020....

try even Vice City...but GTA3 would be smooth enough i bet...make the buildings shells...like they did...

I'd hope it looks exactly like SC4, except with buildings that can go on angles and along curved roads.

Forget the lackof detail in some places, as these are just some early  concept images for my  upcoming CJ. But I always imagined SC5 like this:

teaser02iy0.jpg

teaser03qs0.jpg

teaser01md8.jpg

teaser04yo2.jpg

and I know what some are thinking, but I don't mean futuristic cities, i just mean the graphical style of it.
