Because, of course, making nearly every building based on a world-renowned landmark is so much more realistic than having generic buildings.

The American colonists complained and rallied against the unfair taxing policies of the British, and they brought about change. Martin Luther King Jr. complained and rallied against the lack of civil rights for colored people and managed to attract worldwide attention to the civil rights movement, and he caused massive reform in the area. Without complaints, there is no change. I, for one, refuse to remain complacent in this issue. If we are to get the SC5 we want, we need to act now.

I liked the original Paper Mario a lot. It was somewhat entertaining, and it looked better than SCS.

  8. Originally posted by: John-SJ Gman, I am a longtime (since the original Sim City) SC fan, and I am quite interested in this new version of SimCity. Obviosly your blanket assertions, as with most blanket assertions, fall short of the truth. I have no doubt that you do not like what you see with SC:S. Please do not make statements that ALL SC fans will feel the same. That is simply not true!quote> Yes, but enough, (about 99.97% by my estimates) don't like it, and that is about enough IMO to make a generalization which isn't too much of a stereotype.

Originally posted by: north country dude On the Tilted Mill forum is a poll to determine the age of the average Sim City player, here:http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13044 While there is a large percentage of under 18's, there is also an equally large [if not larger] percentage of 23-30 year olds who have been polled and play the Sim City games. Given the first press release where it was quoted that the game currently under development is "focusing on scaling back the complexity and micromanagement", and the latest press release about the fantasy elements, it gives me pause as to what the actual target audience is and how EA is approaching the marketing aspect of it's latest installment in the Sim City Franchise. I am one of the few [but not too few] age ranges mentioned in the poll, the 41-50 range. One of my hobbies is computer gaming, and specifically, computer simulations. How can I reasonably think that this game under development is geared toward me? or even the 23-30 year old range? While I understand that the under 18 audience should give it a chance, and the Sims 2 audience should give it a chance, why do I feel that my intelligence is being insulted? Now I am all for giving this a reasonable chance and being fair to Tilted Mill as game developers. I don't blame them, I blame the high-powered marketing types at EA for taking what was a somewhat interesting and creative simulation and making it into a "Sim City for Dummies" experience. But that's just my personal feeling on the issue. I'm not trying to be completely negative and closed minded about this at all. I am only trying to say that if the latest screenshots, and game play descriptions [exactly what you see on the box on store shelves] do not make me want to spend the money on "trying it out". It's just an opinion. quote> Then you realize the under-18s, like me, also hate it. Gingerbread houses??? I want to build a realistic city! Not some Willy-Wonka-style creepy wonderland or 1984-Airstrip One style dystopia!

Big budgets mean nothing. Look at Open Transport Tycoon. Look at Rigs of Rods. And Linux. All made with a grand total of $0.00.

  13. Threw this together in 30 mins in Trainz: (There's about 6 miles of that in the route.) If I, a 14-year old with ADD can do that, then surely an entire publishing company like Tilted Mill can do the same. Simtropolis 1000 will be another blow for Open Source Software. w00t!
  14. Simtropolis 1000

/me is going to throw out some suggestions... (I'm sorry if I seem authoritative, I have this sort of alpha-male complex that makes me immediately think I'm in charge of a project even though I know nothing of it.) I suggest we use the OGRE graphics engine for the project. It's free, it's open source, I'm sure the community around it will be exited that there is a project of this scale being made. OGRE is well established and has a huge and helpful community that will be willing to aide all the project. The project ought to be open-source, cross-platform, etc., but I think that's already established. I'm willing to help, I can do 3D modeling and a bit of C++ (still learning, though.) And I'd like to help ILL Tonkso with the rail infrastructure. (I'm a big railfan... As are a lot of people here...)
