First reaction?

"Oh, the shame on us all".

I'll stick with SC4.

I hope someone was logging that chat though. Maybe Simtropolis gets something of a scoop out of it.

I will wait for 10 or even 15 years just to avoid that.

I will stay with SC4 and of course Simtropolis.

Tilted Mills better show me the money, so to speak. I know we only have one screenshot, but I saw a 45 second trailer for GTAIV and I was blown away. It's a shame that GTAIV can create a better re-creation of a downtown urban area than TM.

awesome quote from chokotay on digg: he sums it up very nicely here

The problem I see is that a HUGE number of Simcity 4 fans want a city sandbox. They want full control over the look of the city, they design buildings, they make uber mods to the networks to allow for new freeway interchanges, road intersections, etc... There are enormous user contribution websites out there that focus on just this aspect - and it seems more people are interested in the eye candy than playing the 'game'. The title is not encouraging, and it kinda looks like EA missed this entirely. People are salivating for user drawn roads, custom intersections, new networks, user defined networks, real worl buildings, etc.... This represents, what I see as the majority of the simcity community - not SIMS wanna be's. So, I sincerely hope EA was looking out for that segment of users as well - it is so obvious that is what the user community wants!!

I love coffee and buildings.

Wow, what a fiasco of a launch of the game.

I cannot belive how hot all these forums are with discontent...looks like Chris Beatrice is staying late at the office tonight 3.gif

I'm stunned they would opt for real-3d without breaking with the grid...I was thinking that mesh and splines were an absolute necessity for a legitimate progression on SC4 in a real-3d environment. The screens so far have done nothing to releive fears this is not the case.

People are being awfully pessimistic though...remember, EA did release SC4...and then corrected it with Rushhour.

And there is a real problem with any simulator advancing to a new version of the game, especially when old plugins are not compatible in the new version. This game will stand in the shadow of SC4 for months or years because of the volume of custom content that has been made for the game. A game developer simply does not have access to the same sweeping variety of artists who carefully create perfected textures. Thinking through my version of SC4, when I play, there are probably 15 total textures, buildings, props, etc. from the original EA game...so indeed, the most important thing for the game development is GAMEPLAY, variety and nice content can come later.

Yes.

It's probably a bad idea to completely bash the game to death on a screenshot from early in the production of the game. 21.gifquote>

While the picture does suck, I want so badly to agree with your statement. I've seen horrible first-pics of games and other products that later melted my eyes out, they were so gorgeous. Based on a single, early picture alone, complaints at this stage would seem to be merely whining, and I'd admit to it myself. It could be a preliminary idea, not an intended "finished product"... a decent start but the rendering engine is still far from complete, any number of explanations why that picture is so "infantilish" (don't try that word in Scrabble, btw). The graphics could be amazing, mind-blowing, blah blah, when the final product is released. Provided SCS stays true to its legacy as a city simulation, a new direction is fine, I agree it's necessary for business and aesthetics, and you'll find me waiting in line for it the day it's released. For just the picture, there'd be a lot less shock and disgust, and a lot more "I hope it gets better" in here. Unfortunately, the picture is not what's causing this uproar.

A quote from a TM (developer? staff anyway) apparently states, quite clearly, that TM views Sim City as "not a city simulation."

Now say it with the rest of us.... WHAT??????? 47.gif

What the hell has it been for the past 20 years, if not a city simulator? And I don't care if it's their own deluded vision or if EA gave it to them. Did the cow poison the milk, or did the farmer poison the cow? I cannot voice my theory, for I am dead now.

This is the bulk of the outrage here. Even if the graphics do suck in the end, I might feel ripped off, but not flat-out offended as I am now. Note that folks with 10000+ posts and newcomers whose first post was here, all are up-in-arms about this. I'm praying it's not too late for all these opinions to be heard, and for TM (and EA) to wake up and realize they're effectively destroying a cash-cow (what is it with me and *&%@in' cows today?) beloved by millions world-wide. We all smell what EA and TM are cookin' ... and so far, it don't smell like sugar.

This sucks man! I don't know how anyone could possibly think that would sell? I guess I'll spend my money elseware, and I hope everyone else does too! This is just a thought, but couldn't someone else develope another add-on to SC4 ( kinda like Rush Hour, but better)?? If EA doesn't want to build on the present game version, couldn't someone else? I believe there are way too many people that love this game to just let it die like this!

Come to think of it, I can see how this would actualy help SimTrop. Anyone that wants any realism will have no choice but to get it here. This is just a total freakin tragedy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Too much for words!!!!!!!!!!

Do you know why people are very pessimistic and pissed off?

Because SimCity Societies will be nothing like the Simcity we've known. Goodbye city building.

Tilted Mills said it itself (and angered even more the fans, LOL!)

The bad graphics alone would have been bad. What we know now, is that Simcity won't even be Simcity after this title. How abysmal is this?

Thank you, your Excellency!

When the first few pictures of Simcity4 came out, we were blown away. The current game we have leaves some things to be desired from the pictures. The images of "SimcitySocieties" leaves us feeling like Simcity4 is everything we wanted. MAXIS! The 3d is horrid. If it was the quality of some NDEX or things, It would be great. But this is horrid. I would be surprised if there were more than 3 certain view points. Children of the Nile is utterly amazing compared to its predescessors, and the entire historic city-building genre. This is blown away by SC4, and even SC5. Still see a grid, too. And looks like the didn't take a page out of some great custom mods/ content (NAM, terrain) At least they look more Euro, but that may be bad for some.

I tried looking for the chatroom but couldn't find it, could you point me in the right direction please? 4.gif

The toolbar at the very top of the page under the Simtropolis banner contains an option called "Live Chat." This is the chat room.

It looked like something from the early 1990s and maybe the year 2000. Nothing like sc4. If that's the real game then I seriously doubt anyone is going to buy that.

Does anyone know if it would work to set up a site to collect donations for the development of another Expansion Pack for SC4?? It seems to me that alot of people are of the same mind, so why wait for some corporate idiot to wake up? We have the technology these days. I say, "WE THE PEOPLE" take destiny in our own hands!

To quote Phil Collins:  "Ha ha, ha ha ha ha, ha ha."3.gif

I knew they were going to take a different direction.  This is post-Maxis EA we're talking about.  And honestly, whatever direction they were taking, I wasn't going to buy it any way, so I couldn't care less.  SC4 more than satisfies my needs for a SimCity game.

The situation is kind of funny, I must admit.  But don't blame Tilted Mill.  They're just "hired guns".

As for SimCity 5...excuse me, SimCity Societies (who came up with that garbage title? 47.gif), I will be reserving my judgment until the game hits stores and I can get a better feel for what it's like. However, I'm not feeling overly optimistic at the moment.

Considering the glorious custom content we already have, though, it's as if we've been playing SimCity 5 all this time. 5.gif

Well, all I gotta say is I'm very disappointed. Its going to take a lot for me to even buy this game.

First, even the main developer admits its not a realisitic city building game then it should be a totally different simulation game...

...well I guess a franchise can only last so long 15.gif

the last bit is we have been playing a less graphical sim city 5 with no 3d but with what we want. sim city 4 will last for a while, even when scs hits the shelves!

I just saw this board, Sim City 5 discussion, read a couple topics, articles, and such, I signed that petition right away.

Needless to say, I had, and continue to have a plain face. I probably won't buy the game.
