You are kidding! Only one silo? What if it's part of the Russian Anti-Ballistic Missile shield?! I would go for that.

Good ol' Liberty Islands! Someday, I'll repost my old CJ.

WOW! 1st post of 2008! I can't wait for the nuke to launch! Or was that the one that exploded in the Virgin Shores CJ? on page 14. And that meteor was a spaceship from the Crystal City CJ.

Sorry guys, but i'm going to have to close this CJ 15.gif

    ...

    ...

    ...

    Just kidding 3.gif

I decided that the map size for Sakhaliya was faaaar too small (it was something like 4x4 large city tiles) and I was genuinely running out of space and the scales were too wacky for my liking. However, after a few weeks of deliberation I came up with a few suggestions for myself... A.) Continue as usual and eventually run out of space B.) Close the CJ and start something else, probably not Sim City related (something I really didn't want to do) or C.) Start a fresh map and a Sakhaliya 2.0.

    C. stuck, so I stuck with it. So far, the map i've brewed up is a little more realistic in terrain and is now officially 4 times the size of Sakhaliya 1.0 (although the scale is still waaaaaaaay off)... I was wanting to make it an unwieldy 16 times the size of Sakhaliya, but poor little Terraformer had a heat attack.

This means rebuilding alot of stuff though (not exact replica's, i'm acctually planning Sakhaliya 2.0 to a be more of a "workers utopia" rather than an opressive Soviet clone. Still overly aggressive though, I wouldn't cut that out for the world 4.gif )... so as expected, this may take a while... I'm expecting well into November before you even get a sniff of an update, but i'm off work for the first week of November so that'll be some prime building time 2.gif . Also... expect the same story line, people, Flag, etc... I don't want the place losing its identity!

Anyway, i'm going to go stock up on Vodka for the long haul.

    BURRO!!!

Well, wasn't expecting to see this to be honest. I thought you had fallen off the face of the earth (or what ever they call "life" these days). I still look to this masterpiece of yours as inspiration for my adventures in communism, so to see that its still a priority is great news.

I just hope my little, gray, depressing CJ can compare to yours when it grows up,

    -Todd

    INTERLUDESKI ONE

Due to unforseen overseas pressure for the PRS to "Get rid of the bombs or face a slap", Sakhaliya will be bringing you an Interludeski while we try our best to divert attention from the large smouldering test craters.

    interludeski.jpg

As I mentioned before... Sakhaliya 1.0 was getting too small, cramped and crowded... the Premier literally didn't know where to hide all those WMD's. So the plan is to make Sakhaliya BIGGER, BETTER and SNEAKIER, with lots of WMD storage, hidden silo's, secret multi turreted heavy tanks and conspiracy theories to boggle the mind.

So far, we have thee Map. Its not to scale and its not entirely accurate. If you have a look at the ACTUAL Amur River, you'll find its winding, twisting, multi course self resembles the arteries in your limbs rather than a normal river. Plus, most geographical features are missing except MT Vadan which I decided to make the benchmark highest point -

    sakhaliyav22.jpg

Its a familiar smell isn't it. But, see those squares? Those, my friends, are LARGE city tiles. Compared to little old Sakhaliya 1.0, its quite a momma.

    sakhaliyav11.jpg

And, to just top it off, I marked down the territorial borders between Sakhaliya and its neighbours. The terraforming isn't finished either... the vastness calls for some lakes and marshes too -

    sakhaliyav222.jpg

These interludes I am bringing your from now on will be purely updates on how the city building is coming along... the Story is suspended for now... its acctually going to be a real city journal for once 3.gif

The weekend is nigh, so expect updates! 2.gif

No offense, this is an amazing CJ, but your map is way the out of scale. Sakhalin is twice as long as Taiwan, which is about 400km, and your island looks like about 40km long (or less...)...

*Sorry, I read your post, but still, wouldn't the throw your perception of distance out of wack? 34.gif

And what's with the "peoples" (without the apostrophe)...?

Wow what an awesome CJ. Being a Russian (and soviet era) lover myself i really appreciate this particular CJ.

SIMFOX I THINK SOME OF YOUR POSTS/IMAGE LINKS HAVE BEEN HACKED!

WHEN I LOOKED AT PG9 OF THIS POST I SAW  2 OF THE PICS OF YOUR POST CHANGED INTO PICTURES OF "TUBGIRL!"

SOMEONE PLEASE ALERT THE MODERATORS OF THIS!

THE FOLLOWING LINKED PICS HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO THE TUBGIRL IMAGE:

Not really... you just need to scale things down abit. Look at video games these days, alot of stuff isn't to scale. They didn't fit the whole of Venezuela into Mercenaries 2, or all of London into The Getaway, or all of Pripyat into Stalker... its unwieldy and time consuming. The desired effect can pretty much be acheived with scaled versions. Besides... to make the map to ACTUAL scale would have taken too long, literally the man hours of an office block and the ability to slow down time so I didn't die of old age in the process... I mean, Sakhaliya's scale right now is about 8x8 large city tiles [20x20 miles in real measurements], to call for something to scale would mean making a map roughly 550x550 miles, thats about... umm... 220x220 large city tiles... thats a spoon bending Gelleresc sum of 48400 large tiles in total. Nuh uh, no freaking way. I thought the 64 I had to forest and tidy up myself were bad... if you feel like doing that to over 48000 of the frigging things you be my guest 18.gif

(correct me if i'm wrong btw since my maths is atrocious. I could barely get my head around that stupid Primary School piece of addition)

And what's with the "peoples" (without the apostrophe)...?quote>

No Spell checker in Photoshop? Plus, the font I usually use doesn't allow for it so its a force of habit to miss it out. Besides, who cares apart from English teachers? 3.gif

    interludeski.jpg

    Interludeski 2.0

    I can has updates.

This update WAS going to be on a large refinery building on the Amur river... but just as I was completing the main part if of the facility, the game quit to the desktop and I had to bite my fist in fury. So, I decided to go with the classic approach... build from the inside out. That way I guess I can lay out the transport first and worry about the little bits like power, water etc later (since most of that stuff will be in the Eastern district near the Amur anyway)

A quick shot of the Governmet district of Khabarovsk. As it turns out, I've become the thing I used to hate; a Plopper. Acctually, i've come to love it more and more since I have greater control of what my city looks like.

    sakv21.jpg

I know it seems like i'm travelling down the worn and beaten path yet again, its quite similar to the old Khabarovsk mainly because i'm using pretty much the same buildings. Thats kind of due to the limited amount of buildings I like to use... theres very few of them I feel fit perfectly into this style of CJ, and the buildings you do see are usually repeated... ALOT. But it gives some uniformity to the grand scheme of things, makes it harder to please the eye and therefor I need to work harder to achieve that special something! 2.gif

I like this however. I managed (thanks to Swat Medics Sea Level mod) to get the Maxis snow to work on all maps at all levels! It did take some time sorting out some plugins that conflicted, but now I can have my much much wanted a needed snow scenes on more than just a select few of my cities. Sakhaliya 1.0 had that problem... most of my Coastal cities couldn't have snow since their altitudes were too low, but now we have snow at all altitudes 9.gif

    sakv22.jpg

We'll have the Premier building an Army of Snowmen in no time!
