I also think that it depends on what you need and what's important for you. If you like reliable support and cheap hosting plans in the first place I like this company for webhosting.

Being a software engineer, I have 3 computers though it would make no sense to use all three at the same time. I have one desktop built according to the specs i wanted I have two monitors plugged in to it, one for running the program and the other for code tracing. As this might sound absurd for someone, this is really helpful if you are working in the same field. I have a 2010 macbook pro, which is my personal notebook and a HP notebook-tablet i use for work. Having them all three stemmed from the need and not an avenue to spend on what I earn. I even have colleagues who have more than what I have but practically, you are good to go with three.

Your best bet at this is copying your files onto somewhere else, format it and copy your files back to your external hard drive. The problem can be caused by absolutely anything. It may be caused by the workstation you were using or it could be because of the usb port or even the hard drive itself. Only time will tell. I suggest though, that you should never see your hd as your ultimate backup. As like other devices, it can also fail. And when it is your back up that failed, you are really at a loss. There are some software though that can recover files from corrupted drives, but some may cost some fortune.

I don't think that it could be classified as information overload though our tolerance to it, is already taking its toll. Don't you notice that some commercial breaks, especially on prime time, is already getting as longer as we could bear. Though we cannot blame the networks as these commercials fuel the funds for our favorite shows to continue being shown. I myself, do not even mind what they show on commercials. Almost at every break, I stand up and do something else like get water or snacks and even read an article or two on the internet. But, as studies show, to majority of the audience who are not yet as exposed or savvy with those stuff, commercials are a really big thing. They can almost make a judgment based on what they are seeing on screen. Commercials working their charm eh?

I am really a fan of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid line. For those who do not now, it a cartoon style novel about the adventures of Greg trying to fit-in high school It also discusses, in a funny approach, how high school could be the ultimate playground for someone and hell for someone else. Pretty much how I experienced high school as well. Top to that the ever intriguing conflict with his brother, who like other brothers really pick on their younger siblings. There are explanations as to why this occurrences happen, on one hand, the kid is exposed at a very tender age to how rough life could be but on the other, they just make it an excuse for them to pick on their brothers or sisters.
