I've heard of note passing and text messaging the answers to fellow classmates, but the ipod?

The Article

Not that the device itself is evil, it's just that the people using them to cheat are. . . well. . . let's just say they want the easier way out.

Record the test answers in advance then play the recording later eh? You wise guy. . .

Heh, this isn't exactly new. I've seen this around since the first mp3 players with a mic were on sale. Lists of translations and grammar were always a favorite. 3.gif

IMO, We're putting too much pressure on the students in the school system, causing them to resort to cheating.

I disagree, actually. School is too easy, and students are graded on the wrong things. For instance, knocking marks off a student's paper for it being 600 words instead of 1000 is moronic. If the paper makes its point, is well written with no grammatical, factual or theoretical errors it should recieve a good grade. Enforcing a minimum legnth encourages students to get a really large shovel, and use it to pile the BS on. Sure the paper might be long, but it says the same thing several times and is thus less credible as a report or commentary; which is what the point of an essay/paper is anyways.

The way the school system is structured now is illogical. It does not stimulate creativity and intellectual growth; rather, it retards it. Although, the same can be said for almost all institutions in society these days... *sigh*

Anyways.. good luck to the cheaters. I hope they can use the time they would have spent memorizing useless facts on things that will actually help them in life. God knows the Schools don't do it.

so your school is an electronics nazi? iPods should be allowed under the teacher's discretion.

I question why exactly you would have your iPod in school in the first place. Test or not, listening to music during class isn't a good idea.

My high school had those things banned for that reason.. that they were a method of goofing off in class.

Though colleges tend to be more lenient on that stuff, since you're paying for it, and if you goof off and do poorly it's your time and money you're wasting, not theirs. Around here, bans on stuff like that are at the professor's discretion. But if people are using it to cheat, you probably shouldn't be allowing it during exams...

...so far I haven't heard any stories about people cheating here... Manhattan College is very strict about academic dishonesty. Get caught, and you automatically fail that course, plus you get academic probation and may very well end up getting expelled. Get caught a second time and you're gone, no questions asked.

I'd think cheating would be a lot more of an issue in high school, though... since the kind of people who cheat generally don't end up going to college.

At my school, you can use cell phones any time you aren't in class, and iPods any time you want, as long as the teacher isn't teaching anything. They even let us listen to iPods after we finish standardized tests.

If I were to cheat with an Ipod it would be better to write info as a .txt file and put that in the notes section. However most teachers at my school forbid the use of iPods during tests and such.

A much better way to cheat in math is the use of a graphing calculator, something esential for my math class. You can put just about anything on there, even games 9.gif

There is only one teacher that lets us listen to iPods. I have his class for study hall and keyboarding. we don't do anything in keyboarding that would require us to cheat using an iPod.

I don't have an iPod, so I find that a pen and my hand is an effective way to keep equations close by. What's memorization? 2.gif

Thats my question why do they allow you to have those on during class anyway?

There is  are no valid  reasons for anyone to have a music playing device  at school.

what possible use could the abilty to listen to music  during the school day?

Dont even start that you need someting to do during study hall class , because dont you think that particular class is self explainitory?  Study....

Music helps people focus. I see the merits of allowing people to listen to their iPods during class (provided it's when they're working on sheets and stuff, not when being taught), but during exams that's a no-no. In exams all you should have are your calculator and your pencils.

I a firm believer that all you need when your at school

are your books/paper pen ect. and capacity/willingness to learn.

every thing else is superfluous.

except luch money....

and clothes obviously...

then social interaction in school is totally irrelevant? everyone should be homeschooled then, we should all live a million miles away from each other because making friends and talking to each other is just unimportant. we only go to school for education, if that was the case, there'd be a total of about 2 people in school now.

Did i say that social inteaction wasnt relevant?

but  your going to have that  anyway with people being together.

And mabey its better for social interaction skills for them to actualy talk to each other in person rather then  texting?

But thats just me.

I've thought of this before. But I don't really need to cheat, and all the schools I've been to are run by electricity nazis, wether they go by secular or religious. Electronic devices should be allowed at school, just not in classes. Between classes, electronic devices cause no harm, just relaxation and a way to relieve stress gained from ******* teachers.

The only other reason bring my iPod to school ( besides using to stay awake in study hall) is for the bus. A lot of people bring theres to school for just that reason.

i only listen to my ipod in one class, science! if i wouldnt i would probably have jumped out of a window by now, an hour and fifteen minutes every day of hearing my science teacher go on and on in his monotone french canadian accent makes makes every class seem like an eternity. i just run the headphones through my shirt and lean forward to try and cover it up when ever he comes by, the teacher is so clueless he will probably never notice.
