Gotham City: The Planning Stages

I wouldn't call this a city journal, but more of an outlet to see what the public will think about the final, finished result of Gotham City. This way, I can get feedback and make some changes before I post the final "drafts" of the updates. Also, I will use this thread to experiment with layouts to see how everything will fit. So basically, I'm posting random images to see what you guys think. Hope you enjoy it. Feedback and criticisms are welcome and appreciated.

This first mosaic will pretty much show the basic layout and style that I'll be using--a comic book! However, I've just noticed that some of the quality was lost when I converted it to JPG. If anyone can help me find a good picture converter (with little or no loss in quality), I'll be forever greatful.

If you have any questions, as well, I'll be happy to answer.

Awesome. Awesome.

I did kind've the same thing with The Planets. I wanted to show off my stuff before it shows up in the actual story.

As for a converter, I don't see much quality loss using GIMP.

I hope to see more, and hopefully you'll launch this bad boy pretty soon

Thanks for the feedback, you guys have all been a help. I'd also like to thank football_fever for reccomending GIMP.

    44.gifYeah! Lossless .JPG conversions!!!1111 44.gif

fate556: Well, let's hope the new CJ will change your opinion about the Dark Knight.

SamTheMan: Well, there can't be a Gotham City without a Batman...

psteverific also brought up an important point. I'll be incorporating SC4 screenshots into the comic strip itself, because well, this is a Simcity CJ. I also like to compare the SC4 picture side-by-side with its comic counterpart to see how they're similar to each other.

And here's the next preview. You might be wondering, what's with the change in styles? Well, because the first image showed in this thread were scans taken from a comic book, edited, added new speak-bubbles, and molded with SC4 screenshots. This new one I'll be showing you are a blend of DVD screen captures and SC4 images. In my opinion, I happen to enjoy the Batman Animated Series more than Batman Begins. 2.gif Even for a cartoon, the BTAS had mature storylines and dialogue. More info can be found at

    Now THIS IS special!

And as a comicbook fan I like the idea of making a comic book CJ as well as I like what you made out of it!

    Keep it coming!

Gotham City? Who would've thought... I hope this project gets off the ground.

Since it's Gotham City, I'm guessing most of the pics would involve night time and/or a rainy day right?

I'll be experimenting with Times New Roman font in "update" to see if it matches better than Arial for the images.

    Replies:

Nardo69: I'm glad I'm attracting the attention of my target audience. What kind of comics do you read?

crazyyaya: Hey, thanks for the comment. That blimp can be found by searching "Zeppelin" on the STEX.

ilikehotdogsalot: Just keep in mind that this isn't the official CJ. This is just an experimental thread.

Deever: Of course. Bats operate at night--they're nocturnal!

Sorry if I didn't reply to all your comments. As this isn't a real CJ, I'm only answering to those who have questions or have something that catches my eye. But thank you all for the feedback!

A bit of background on the storylines. For the first month or so of updating (in the official CJ thread), I'll be posting the "comic book" Batman Begins (with my own Simcity twist 2.gif). After that, I'll switch styles to the Animated Batman, and that will have tons of new storylines, including new villains, characters...it'll be interesting to see how it turns out, and what you guys will think of it. I've been planning this months ahead (but still hard at work), and I hope you guys will enjoy it.

This is Wayne Manor. Thanks to meinhosen for lotting this for me (He got rid of those awful robo-knights in the backyard 2.gif).

Those pictures look MUCH better now that you're using GIMP. It has quite a learning curve, but it can make things look amazing. One of my favorite things is adding fire like this shot from Crystal City:

I seriously hope the CJ will be starting soon. Wayne Manor looks exactly how it should. It's amazing what you can find on the STEX, no?

    That's one fancy-schmancy Wayne Manor you've got yourself... 9.gif

Nice job on the initial posts... might make me pop in once in a while just to see how things are going. Great work!

I work for the US Army. I go places, visit mean people, and kill them.

Winston Churchill is generall credited for saying something to the effect of: "People sleep soundly in their beds because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf". That about sums up my life, besides the "rough men" part.

I think I'll keep the font...

    Replies:

football_fever: Hmm. Look's interesting, I might have to check out how to do that effect. But right now, I'm focusing on making some crispy-clear jpgs. Thanks for the help--and suggesting GIMP!

    crazyyaya: Yaya.

meinhosen: I can't thank you enough for lotting that for me! It's made dozens of my storylines involving exterior shots of the mansion possible.

Voulpiotis: Search "Zeppelin" on the STEX.

This is the infamous back-street where random acts of violence can create a domino effect which may never end...
