17º City : Paris

(Special Thanks to "Porkissimo")

Paris is the capital city of France. It is situated on the River Seine, in northern France, at the heart of the Île-de-France region ("Region Parisienne"). Paris has an estimated population of 2,153,600 within city limits (2005 est.). The Paris urban area has a population of 9.93 million; a vast commuter belt around the same completes the Paris "aire urbaine" (roughly: "metropolitan area") that, with its population of 11.5 million, is one of the most populated areas of its kind in Europe.

Paris' location at a crossroads between land and river trade routes in lands of abundant agriculture had made it one of France's principal cities by the 10th century, rich with Royal palaces and demurs, wealthy Abbeys and a cathedral; by the 12th century Paris had become one of Europe's foremost centres of learning and the arts. Today, Paris is a major influence in politics, fashion, business, arts and science. The city serves as an important hub of intercontinental transportation and is home to universities, sport events, opera companies and museums of international renown, making it an attraction for over 30 million foreign visitors per year.

The Paris region (Île-de-France) is France's foremost centre of economic activity. With €478.7 billion (US$595.3 billion), it produced more than a quarter of the gross domestic product (GDP) of France in 2005. With La Defense, the largest purpose built business district in Europe, it hosts the head offices of almost half of the major French companies, as well as the headquarters of ten of the world's 100 largest companies. Paris also hosts many international organizations such as UNESCO, the OECD, the ICC, or the informal Paris Club. It is regarded as one of the world's 4 major global cities.

As ugly as all those houses look when massed up so much.. I like it.

However..

Im not sure if Paris was actually bombed during WW2.. As far as I know, and im no historian (yet..).. Once the allied capture of Paris was imminent, Hitler ordered the German garrison to bombard the city.. the garrison commander however refused Hitlers orders and evacuated the German Garrison with little or no damage to the city.

Anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong.

I thought Paris had more skyscrapers scattered around it though.. I still LOVE this city 4.gif

i don't really think the aerial pic is real, if you look closely, you can see the same pattern of buildings multiple times. but from closeby it looks great. must be pretty difficult plopping all those buildings. but it does look so lifeless. not much trees, hardly any people, and only saw one car, an ambulance.

Take care

Hitler ordered to burn Paris, but the commander refused

I can recognize the Seine river, but Paris is not griddy at all

As for skyscrappper, Paris city has almost 0 skyscrapper, ( 1 is tour montparnasse ), all skyscrapper are at La Defence, which is not Paris

Good job copecopecopecope, but Paris is not so much packed

little too repetitive and not much like paris besides the boring house blocks that go on forever. I think you should stop making these poor effort plain repetitive cities and take your time to make one good city.

Advice: Stick to one or two journals and update and improve them frequently .. I really dont see any advantage of having so much journals.

BSC happened to you. Hopefully you will continue showing your work elsewhere, like in simcities.com or if you keep doing cjs in e.g spanish fan sites, let us know.

Personally I like Paris, allthough Athens was better because Paris is done so many times. You could replace add pedestrian malls next to roads to make city not so tight. I would like to see your landmark-update.

I'm in the boat with all these other people.  These are really bland.  Your Paris looks like New Orleans, and I can't tell if New Orleans is pre- or post- katrina.

No one really cares that you can build 20 large city tiles in as many hours.  We've seen it once before, horray.

And to be totally honest, I'm a bit miffed that some really nice CJs are bumped off page one by your countless CJs that keep getting reawakend because you link in your sig.

There is no reason we couldn't relegate all these CJs to a single thread like every other CJer on here who update a single thread.

Though I do think you should make a archive of all your project cope(4) since then people would be able to access all of them in one spot.

You are the only one I know who will build that much, that quick, and do yet another one a few weeks later.

Though I do think you should try detail work rather than speed and size...since you could make a heck of a region if you did alot of detail work! 2.gif

Hey Guys, lets try to be nice to one another, as 2CH said there is a big difference between harsh destructive comments and constructive criticism. Try and be polite everyone.

I archived one post for bad language, but I will leave the rest unless copecope wants a fresh start.

Thanks, choco.

in earnest its destructive comments like the ones ive seen in the above posted that kills the SC spirit in people so what if its not perfect or doesnt look entirely like its intended look in actuality atleast he gave it a try id like to see someone make a recreation in such a short time he did thats even better. its sad to see that this site has turned into a site of hypocrites demoralizing ones work if its not absolutely perfect, cope youve done some great recreations in such short time and i give u mad props but i do feel that this site does not deserve your awesome recreation work and i feel it should be at a site that will respect your work such as SC4D, you guys wonder why some CJs are moving to other sites and BAT groups and such as well heres your answer!! ST shame on you!

I agree with choco, you guys are getting way too over-critical. Cope does have a lot of CJ's but just wants to show us what he can do. Also, I don't think that harsh comments are going to make this situation any better.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing another update with this, let's see some landmarks 4.gif
