So how do you power YOUR city?

I've got an industrial / residential sector carrying quite a few Nuclear Plants however, It's costing one of my neighbor cities more to purchase power than they gain in income... Almost by $1K and everytime the gap closes, the city needs more power...  It's a bit fustrating. The city that's feeding from it is basically Dense Industrial / Light, Medium Residential...

The supplier city has like 4 - 5 Nuclear Plants to support all of it's neighbors... and is also losing income now aswell... ... Maybe if I upgrade all my Industries to Hi Tech and go for Hydrogen things would be better?

Personally, I almost never use nuclear or hydrogen to power a city - mind you, they don't get offered in the game until a player has built a city up to a certain size.

I tend to use coal in (dirty) I cities, and natural gas in (clean) R and C cities. When offered, and if I can afford them, I use the solar power plant (in the clean cities.) Neighbour connections are also de rigeur, of course. It boosts profitability in both the RC cities, and the I cities (that house the power plants.)

Need4Camaro, I suggest enacting ordinances. Specifically the power conservation one. It should cut your power demands to an affordable level.

I just designate a small city square my "Dirty Power Sector" and have all my landfill and power plants there. In it I build 20 Coal Power Plants and have a few Waste-to-Energy (Simgoobers clean version) and thats it.

i use wind power, even in dirty cities(i don't have many though). There is one city that has a bunch of oil power plants that powers a city.

I have always powered my cities with coal power. I always have industrial sectors in my city so I put my power plants there (the air is already polluted to begin with). Coal power is the most polluting but the cheapest.

I use Somy's Microwave powerplant and use it to power a good chunk of my region since it has so much capacity.

I use either Nob's power plant, the default maxis hydrogen plant, or a microwave rectenna plant downloaded from a japanese B.A.T. site. 16.gif

I use that 1x1 aluminum shed from STEX, and the power ordinance, which allows that one shed to power an entire region 9.gif

It's cheating, I guess, but I'm very partial to Raphaelninja's Ionic Fusor. I use it in my larger cities.

I make a nearby city a dedicated dirty city with incinerators covering all terrain and take garbage from surrounding cities in exchange for power. I have 6 so far in my region of 15.1 million.

Depends on. My smaller cities run mostly on their own small Powerplants - Ingame Wind, the small CSX Plant, Custom Windmills - there are quite some that I don't regard as cheating.

If you want to power a large city from outside without draining the power selling city I would suggest those:

as cogeo added a mod that makes the power deals more fair (towards the power selling city).

I have a small tile with one of those babies that almost  alone powers his 350.000 inhabitant neighbour town (Gleiwemünde, see my CJ - call chapter 15 - for details).

I use the pack

REAL-WORLD NUCLEAR POWER-PLANT SET V1.00

By cogeo

There a couple of nuclear power plants, with al various capacity and plop cost

The max from powerplant that cost 600.000 is 145000MWh/mo

I only need one power plant to deliver the power for 4 or 5 cities.

I have a couple cities that take the garbage from the bordering cities, and thus those cities taking garbage get power from the trash incinerators...now just because they have trash incinerators doesnt mean they are dirty cities, i make 5 to 6 rows of trees/parks around the incinerators and the pollution is 95 percent gone and the city can thrive as "upper class." The cities that sell the garbage are powered by solar as soon as its affordable. I usually never by or sell power. The only neighbor deals are for garbage. In short - my cities are powered by trash incinerators and solar.

Im building a large city with high population throughout the region. I went the usual road from coal to gas power but since gotten rid of those in my capital. I now use wind, solar and hydrogen power. Nuclear is banned by the request of environmentalist and by me being an environmentalist myself. Im sure sims love their former environmental activist in charge 9.gif I granted permission to build the hydrogen to avoid the need of nuclear. When I played some further and the city grew I was requested to build another hydrogen, or the high tech industry wouldn't liked the city that much to invest.

Im not a fan of deals because deals make's advisors to remind about them all the time... and it's annoying.

I make power and water work for each city so each city has to provide their own power plants which makes using low pollution sollutions necessary. I don't do neighborhood deals for power or water. I find neighborhood deals drive demands up and it costs too much. Start off with windmills, then I use natural gas (lots of trees and parks), but I mostly use solar power but sometimes nuclear or hydrogen power.

For R/C cities I use wind power.  However, for Industrial strength power or for several adjacent cities, I use the antimatter plant I placed on the STEX.  The AM plant needs a lot of water.

I either cheat or make a realistic looking power complex nearby and buy power from it. My "cheat" was making a tiny box, invisible to the eye in BAT and giving it the highest possible stats in Plugin Manager, then disguise it as a plaza in Lot Editor. Seems to work for power, but not water for some reason...

Here's how my power deals in north-western Genesis work...

Goldton (6 hydrogen power) --> Enrion, Tersaea -->Elleson --> Jenson, Daxton
