Huh? Every city is separated... thus a region is a collection of separate cities. I'm totally confused by this statement.

I think he means he builds several city "centers" on one large region piece, that way it looks like multiple cities even though its one region.

What I meant is that does one build a single city in many region tiles, as shown in several CJ's (NyHaven, For example), or does one build completely separate, autonomous cities?

I tend to build cities that are linked together, but otherwise autonomous. It's sort of weird, but that's also because I'm not the best mayor ever to own the game. 3.gif

Most of my cities have city centers, but mostly because I absolutely hate the idea of a bedroom community or other such suburban disgustingness.

Although my higher density areas usually don't have much industrial, just because most industrial lots aren't high rises and therefore would be out of place. I did however, build one large sprawling LA like city, the only difference being that unlike LA, my city has a vibrant and prosperous urban core. Oh, and an excellent rail system.

I almost always build my cities over several tiles. Usually one (or 2) tiles are the central urban area, then industry and suburbs, then farms. The burbs take a million years to do, but it makes everything look realistic.

I am a huge fan of the suburban concept and so I usually build one region with one large city, taking up several tiles if that's what you mean... Like Husker I'll use one or two medium or large tiles for the downtown core and the rest or a large part of the region to low density high wealth residential. The industrial sector is best left far from downtown, linked to a highway and away from water in my opinion.

What are the advantages, in your opinions, of building 1 region cites to those that are competently Autonomous? Custom Airports/Seaports? More Detail?

It's a pain in the ass trying to blend the city boundaries. ie, have the networks and buildings continue across the boundaries with no discernable break.

Try to get the different city tiles to blend as much as possible, to create a region view that looks as uniform as possible without the boundary lines showing.

I do like a Toronto type thing. Big huge downtown, but with suburbs with their own little CBDs right inside. So big interconnecting city.
