    RUHRSCHNELLWEG

Today a very special update I say... We gonne take a tour along the entire highway that stretches from west to east along the entire region!! With this update you'll see what a variety the region has to offer; industries, rivers, cities, farmlands, railways, harbours, valleys, stations, forests.. etc etc

    ruhrrs5.jpg

Red line -> Ruhrschnellweg & Blue dots; Pictures taken

So; sit back and enjoy this huge update and let the little story beneath every picture tell you something of the region...

    01ruhrschnellwegmoerswewd9.jpg

We enter the region from the west and we reach the first junction of the region; "Kreuz Moers" Farmlands are being taken over by housing and industies now on!!

    02ruhrschnellwegduisburaw7.jpg

We're passing by the western suburbs of "Duisburg" and we cross the river "Rhine" with the nice bridge that holds the "Ruhrschnellweg"

    03ruhrschnellwegduisburpt3.jpg

We enter the most industrialised settings of the Ruhrpott; "Duisburg Hafen", with large petrochemical plants and steel mills the banks of the river "Rhine" holds most of the very heavy industry of the region..

    04ruhrschnellwegduisburzm9.jpg

We are passing by the city of "Duisburg" and we enter some more hilly terrain east of the city. Here a couple mayor highways meet, aswell some raillines which are here bundled together towards Duisburg main station; "Duisburg HBF"

    05ruhrschnellwegmulheimcj5.jpg

This is the only time the "Ruhrschnellweg" crosses the river "Ruhr". Between "Duisburg" and "Mülheim" several rail-tracks and the highway crosses the river and some farmlands beneath.

    06ruhrschnellwegmulheimft3.jpg

The eastern suburbs of "Mulheim", southern of "Oberhausen" and western of "Essen" Here the highway makes some turns and we enter the denser residenital areas around "Essen"

    07ruhrschnellwegessenweps0.jpg

The shopping-center (einkaufzentrum) Ruhr is near the highway A44, here we enter the city-border of "Essen"

    08ruhrschnellwegessenweyz8.jpg

The highway continues going deeper into "Essen" city center. Here we can see the trade-center that's on the banks of the highway and the "Fernsehturm" or in English; radio & television-tower of "Essen"

    09ruhrschnellwegessenzede8.jpg

"Essen Zentrum" (center) with a highway that tunnels itself underneath highrises and popping above ground just in front of the railway station; "Essen HBF"

I now follow this cj for quite a while and after you have showed really alot of pictures,

i MUST say this recreation is AWESOME!!!

Let me summarize what me inspired most on you´r recreation:

    1. Your way to build your traffic grid.

It´s a mastery to beat the gridstyle over a wide cityarea, because grid is kinda inherent in the game with the standart networks.

Your way to build grid in other angles than 45°-steps is just amazing and gives the cities the european touch.

    2. The buildings: im not sure how many growed and how many you have plopped, but the mixture is very good! even though i visited the Ruhrgebiet twice in my life i´d say the colours and style of the buildings is well choosen, and there are no (over-)brightlycoloured maxis buildings. This results in a "natural grey"-appearance of your cities, which you can also observe when using any map-site on the internet and look on a city from above.

    3. Your way of using details.

There are many great CJs indeed, many of them focus on the smalles details - like little sideways, fences beside the rail and whatsoever.

But the appeal of your city is not the small detail in every corner, on every cell,

no for me its the way u use details to stress specific locations(like the Harbor), to let them shine out of those (i.e) boring industrial areas.

All together you have my admiration - i have rebuilt a small part of the Rhein/Main-Gebiet by myself, and apart from the traffic net (which is by far the easiest part, i´d say)

it´s far from beeing such a masterpiece of recreation like your´s is!

Wow! Well, like I've said before - an awesome cj. Great work! I love the layout of your CBD and the high-rise buildings are placed soe realistically. At least you don't overwhelm your city centre with high-rise buildings.

    THANK YOU

    For all the nice comments

    regionsatruhrgebietnortfa8.jpg

    regiontransruhrgebietnoug0.jpg

This is the region how it looks today.. A lot of infrastructure I've done last weeks & also some developement north of "Dortmund"

we're allready at 60% completion of the region... aaaargh; a long way to go!!!

@ Ozon; thanks for that replie!! that is really a replie where I can do something with. filled with critisism and thinks you like; that's the way I can improve my city-building style and it's nice to read you like it!!

@ harlem; I've changed it.. my bad!

@ mike the mayor; that's what it's all about; finding the right mixture to get that European feeling..

@ all the others; good to see you like my way of city building, and it's always an honor to be a example for you all. -> we can learn from all of eachother!!
