 I don't want to bump, but I made an island just for this topic:

This is Norparrst, the biggest city of my nearly unpopulated region. It was a small fishing village, until some investors put money into it as it was a great strategic point, and a middle point between the capital and a medium-sized industrial town. It was expanded for the airport and then again for the commercial area. Unemployment is a problem and as much as 20% of the population get a ferry every morning to go to job in a different city. Traffic is a problem of the past, as now many metro stations have been built all over the city. There is a small chapel in the west of the town, which used to serve the village, and since then an island has been built for the new, tall, white cathedral.

Aww. My island's no where as cool as you guys.

Donner Island was just a byproduct of my boredom while terraforming my region.

There's two farms, a school, a hospital, a museum, a libray, and other various parks and recreations, most noticibly the beach at the north.

The whole island is powered by a single wind turbine near the beach, and a water tower to the west.

I have no idea where that mansion came from but it's the only R$$$ on the island. This one tax payer pays for about 10% of the islands cost, allowing the budget to be balanced on  a razors edge.

Also, your island looks great but i would suggest making that street where the marina is go all the way through to the other side of the avenue.

Ooh I love that. Great for a nice little getaway from your mainland worries. Probably offers a lot of privacy too. Unless one of those boats gets a bit too close.

Here's something from a region I downloaded. Not really much that I actually did to it, planted trees, and you can BARELY make out the small village i placed along the shore. But I'm more proud of the clouds i added.
