Well... Some people say Americans are dumb.. I can't say the people of the United States of America are stupid... I bet the people they took to this TV show were paid for giving them those dumb answers...

And what do you think about those people? Do you agree or disagree with this picture of a dumb American?

Oh, here is the link!!

The currency of the United Kingdom is the British Pound.

Not all American's are stupid but the geo-political ignorance of many Americans is quite worrisome.

Umm, I would have to agree with that assessment to a degree.  We do tend to be rather stuck up on ourselves.   As that one guy who said that President Bush was always right because he was from Texas kind of proved. 41.gif

errr no, its probably LA, which of course would make sense, seeing as how they just stole this from jay leno

There is a thing where they are on a beach with palm trees, and in one shot they are on the street and in the background is an arco gas station, and they dont have those in texas anymore

As for what the people are saying, yeah there are a lot of dumb people, but I guarantee you could do this in any country and get the same result

Meh, the video just shows that the general public can be as dumb as a box of hair sometimes. Doesn't matter where you are or who you ask.

And in all honesty: I don't think I'd recognize John Howard even if he were to walk up and kick me in the teeth.

In other words, hamster, you're saying this was fudged for this video and that it likely didn't happen? I'm not challenging you to prove that, just curious if that's what you are indeed saying.

all I meant to prove was that it was done in southern california and not texas as someone here claimed.

real or not, who knows. Jaywalking on leno is unscripted and so is "talking to americans" on this hour has 22 minutes . A lot of people are dumb, and I think a lot of those people want to be on tv and know their clip will make the cut and get on air if they make their answer especially dumb...

Unless I heard that wrong, I believe he said in the video that it was shot in Texas.

I'd agree with that.  Many people will publicly disgrace themselves to make it on TV.

That was very funny, especially the part with the map, though they should have used one without names on XD I can understand people not knowing all the -stan or the former yugoslavian countries as those are prettey new (my History teacher for example never learnt any of em in school, because they didnt exist), but not knowing where france and australia is is prettey bad XD

Though im guessing they just spent a week interviewing people and then used the all the stupid answers, well ofc they did that but still XD

I actually have a classmate that would make answers just like that, its called stupidity and found all over the globe.

Oh, and the Brittish Pound is usually called "the Stirling" when talking about currency 2.gif

I'd have to say the berlin wall was in Moscow or one of those Soviet cities...you know with the communists or something...Besides, what the heck are we doing in Iraq? the USSR is obviously a much larger threat to the US.

    That clip was funny.

@JanYpe: Don't worry John Howard is easy to spot out.

    He is short

Is Bald with hairs on its side

    is 67 years old

    And has very bushy eyebrows.

Not like that fake John Howard, but we wouldn't mind having him as Prime Minister.

    It would be funny. Hah

I'm shure people have seen him on TV in America, right?

Bu no offense it is sad to see that the British Pound is the American Dollar. And Utah is now a country.

AHA!  CNN strikes again.  This kind of man on the street thing can be done and edited to say what you like.  I know many very cosmopolitan, educated citizens of the excited states.  Of course, their parochialism is legendary.  Why should they know other stuff when there system keeps them so entertained with its follies?

Well I might be a bit ignorant then...

Of course it could all be staged, but some of that stuff is actually quite terrifying.

I believe a lot of this stems from a decision that was made when the Soviets launched Sputnik. It was considered to be a national priority to win the "space race" so the schools put a lot of emphasis on math and science. As a result, history and art were severely curtailed and most of my generation of Americans are woefully ignorant about these things.

The good news is, what we are teaching kids these days is more balanced. High school kids in my neighborhood are studying parts of history my class never got near.

Yes, that was one of many things that was glossed over.  It drove my parents crazy that, each year, the school year would end before we got to WWI.  We got horrible, useless details on some events and next to nothing on others.

As one report stated, if the educational programs had been imposed by an outside force, we would have considered it to be an act of war.  but no . . . we did it to ourselves.  and there is a whole generation of Americans who really are unprepared to live in a global community.

    Sad but true.  15.gif
