MAPP -- Show Us Them Parks!

The MAPP has been released and you've downloaded it.  You just tried it out for the first time and you think to yourself "Man, this park really kicks butt!"

Well, prove it!! Post pictures of those amusement parks that you have created with the MAPP. (Please limit this thread to amusement parks made using the MAPP)

For those of you not familiar with posting images here at Simtropolis, here is a quick tutorial courtesy of T Wrecks.

Here's a quick how-to on using ImageShack to post thumbnails:
- Go to www.imageshack.us.
- Click "Browse" to browse to a file on your HD you want to upload.
- Click on "Host it!" and wait a while
- Once your image is uploaded, you will see a page with a preview of your image and some link codes.
- Scroll down a bit until you see the code at the bottom, "direct link to image". Copy it by highlighting it (double-click into the text field where it's displayed) and pressing [Ctrl]+[C].
- Now go to your reply on Simtropolis. Click the "Add/edit" image icon. A new window called "Image properties" will pop up.
- This window has three tabs. Go to the second tab "link".
- Copy the link to the picture into the "URL" text field by clicking into the field and pressing [Ctrl]+[V]. This should copy the Imageshack link into the text field.
- Now go back to the first tab, "Image info".
- Click into the topmost text field, "Image selection". Press [Ctrl]+[V] once again.
- Now to get a thumbnail, edit the URL by adding a ".th" between the name and the extension of the file. Let's take an example. If your image has the URL "www.imageshack.us/MyImage.jpg", change it to "www.imageshack.us/MyImage.th.jpg". The ".th" tells ImageShack to use the same image, but in thumbnail format.
- Click "ok".

Now you should have a thumbnail preview of your image inside your reply, and when people click on that thumbnail, they will get the full-size image, which they can also open in a new window or browser tab.

One more thing: Please use any tool (there are multi-language freeware tools like XNView or IrfanView available on the net if you don't have PaintShop or PhotoShop) to convert your images to JPG format before you post them. If you adjust the compression vs. quality ratio to a quality level of ~ 60%, you should get nice pictures with reasonable file sizes. Please consult the documentation and the help forums of these tools if you are not sure how to do that.

If I view the source info for this page it appears as if your images are still stored on your computer lrfox.

    It says:

    file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/FOXJM/My%20Documents/SimCity%204/Albums/Redwood%20beach--3395184266/Main%20Street%20USA%20park.JPG

Thanks -M- ...I just looked at that myself...

Best recommendation is to open an account with a free image hosting service like Photobucket or Imageshack and host your pics there...they provide links you can just copy and use when you hit the Insert Image button in your reply...that way when the 6-month mark comes up the pics save on Simtropolis won't disappear... 4.gif

Look at the thread "Show us how you use HKABT content!" in the Hong Kong/Asia Team Room. The first post contains a step-by-step tutorial on posting ImageShack thumbnails here on ST.

SimCity save it's images in the folder Simcity 4\Album\ *city name* (in the document folder)

The files are in the file format PNG. I use IrfanView to convert from PNG to jpg. Its a good idea to set the quality to 50%. When you go from 100% to 50% the images goes from a file size of around 400-600 KB (800 x 600 px ) down to around 50-100 KB.

Beside just using IrfanView to convert images, it can be used as as screencapture. Start IrfanView and press C. Then set the settings as you want them and press START.

Looking forward to see some pictures.

Looks great...I really like you included many non-MAPP buildings to give a "main street" feel to the park...we are looking, or at least it was suggested, that the first add-on include shops and restaurants and such...

Great job...anyone else have some pics for us? 2.gif

Here's my first MAPP park. Just a quickie to see how it'll work. Not veru happy with the lack of fencing available but oh well ... hey how about a 1x1 admission booth for a subway station located in-park?

Well I finished a big one. Castle Checkerboard in North Andyopolis ... it was a labor of love. Sit back and relax and take a quick tour with me Okay?

castle10kk6.th.jpg Let's start up front at the main entrance with plenty of free parking. Two 5x3 entrances and a Bus Entrance ensure that there won't be any long waiting lines at my park. Off to the right is Administration Office and Maintenece Shack. Stop by and say Howdy! to Bad Andy sometime.

castle11bj5.th.jpg I encircled the entire property with a castle wall to give the park it's general theme (Hats off to onlyplace4 for a very complete and attractive set of 1x1 building blocks) Notice I planted a maple tree on the outside fence every grid square to make all the green lover's happy.

Now we are just inside the front gates a we have some very merry fountains tickling water and plenty of small plazas and small green parks to provide those weary feet a place to rest on the way out. Bathrooms are located to either side of the front entrance for your convienence.

castle01st9.th.jpg Here we have some of the more gentle rides for those little tykes like the carousel, crazy 8's and the exihibition tent, while the Viper id sure to thrill the big kid in all of us. Don't forget the games stalls where you can try yourt luck and one on of thousands wonderful souvieners to take home (Maybe YOU can get the big stuffed dog hmmm?) Plenty of food stalls ensure that those rumbling tummies have plenty of tasty treats waiting for them.

castle02je1.th.jpg Next comes a standard for any park the ferris wheel while mouldy manor will esure your sweetheart jumps into you arms in the dark amidst gales of laughter and shrieks of delight. Come on guys hold tight! And here we come to our big three Wicked Timber, Thunder Looper, and the Massasauga are sure to challenge the bravest of us with daredevil drops and tight twist turns. Bathrooms are located to the north and south in case lunch wants to make an encore apperance.

castle03sj0.th.jpg castle15ze2.th.jpg At the back of the park is Wet Willy's Water Park for splashing fun in the sun. A large row of food shops and game stalls as well as a full air-conditioned arcade are sure to heve the kids digging in you pockets for change. Here is the VIP Entrance where special guests od the park have reserved parking and a private entrance. Security kiosks are located to either side and though-out the park.

Now for that long walk back and a last chance to try your luck at the game stalls or to buy a snack. Re-ride your favorite coasters do simple enjoy a lesiurly stroll amidst the many flower beds and small parks provided for you pleasure. Thank you for visiting us here at Castle Checkerbaord, Hope you have a safe trip home. Remember to buckle-up the kiddies and the same or Mom and Dad.

    Your Host, Bad Andy

Here is a view of part of the park and the city in the earlier days.  Originally this was a small town.  Once the theme park was constructed, business thrived and hotels started to open.  It was really the life of the town:
    01-park&cityolder2.jpg

Here is a zoomed out view of the entire park.  As you can see back then, there was not much surrounding the park:
    02-parkzoomoutolder2.jpg

Here is a zoomed in view of the park, still back in the older times:
    03-parkolder2.jpg

Many years later, here is the park & city now.  As you can see, highways have been constrcted, a zoo has been opened, a mall has opened near the park, and the city has grown signifigantly:
    04-park&citynewer2.jpg

Here is the zoomed out view in modern days.  A lake surrounged by high-rise hotels/condos opened up and a monorail system feeds from the park to the condos to the park.
    05-parkzoomoutnewer2.jpg

Here is a zoomed in view of the park in modern days:

Here is the entire city as of now:

    Hope you enjoyed that!
