Welcome to the Concrete Avenues Mod Thread.

I am making a mod that makes all low wealth avenues have a light brown concrete texture.

Below are some of the textures:

avestreet1aj0.jpgtextureavehw8.jpg

Throughout the making of this mod, I will use codes & shortened words to explain. Below is a key to explain these:

DS = Intersection to both sides of avenue

SS = Intersection to single side of avenue

TH = Through Intersection

IID = Instance No.

GREY TEXT = Outdated Information

RED TEXT = Incorrect or Unknown Information

PURPLE TEXT = Texture

BLUE TEXT = Extended Information

The following textures have been made:

Straight Section

DS & TH Road Intersection

DS & TH Street Intersection

Please post your comments here.

12 December 2006 - Problem

I, however, have come across a problem. For testing purposes I imported 4 textures to the game to test that they were working.

When I entered the game, and tested a low wealth avenue, the DS/TH road intersection worked fine, and the the new textures appeared. However, none of the others did (Straight section, DS/TH Street Intersection). The avenue use the default textures.

I am not sure why this is. I followed the Custom Network Texture Tutorial, and those two textures worked fine.

Also, the Street Avenue intersections were modified by the NAM, so I don't know what to do to bypass that. I did use the IIDs from the NAM DAT file for the street intersection.

I don't know if this means anything, but the textures for the street intersection were "festive" in the reader. (All coloured blocks over the texture like the texture in the RHW thread).

Why does one drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Why is delivery by boat called a cargo and one by land called a shipment?

Combine all the files into a .dat, and name it z_filename.dat and place it in the folder which has all the NAM plugins in it. This will make sure it loads after the NAM, since if the NAM loads after it, NAM textures will be used rather than the new ones.

Edit: this is because the game will load the SC4 1-5 .dats first, then the SC4 plugins directories (are these loaded one dir before the other anyone know?) , and then each file is handled alphabetically.

Also, this can be caused by conflicts (i.e. the euro-road/RHW raised-road texture bug).

Dexter: Please save the picture as jpg, as Internet Explore doesn't show PNG's.

For this you can use IrfanView to convert them and the program is free.

I'll definately be watching this one....looks very realistic...much like sun-bleached southern roads here in the USA

Hmm..the texture should look grayer not yellow, it should be more expensive yet cheaper maintenance wise...and higher speed....

Other than that, it's a good start!

I like what you have so far. Keep on with the coloring as concrete roads have different materials in different regions, therefore different colors appear when fading occurs. For example, here in Mississippi EVERYTHING that comes out of the ground has clay in or on it, so concrete roads get a slight clay tinge to them when they wear.

i agree with hamsterTK, it looks perfect as it is....

EDIT: Also, there should be a white line on the outside of the road way (as Ryan said)

Well, concrete and roads look different in other places. I'm surprised there is no "Red Road Mod" for those red-tinted Louisiana roads.

I think this would look good not just on low wealth avenues but on all avenues, and even roads. I have never seen a black road in my life. Just my two cents.

Looks very good!

I have seen black roads. They are all over Las Vegas, especially where there are new ones being put in. They come out looking jet black, and most of them have retained that color even after so many years of traffic and the desert sun.

The roads over here start jet black, then fade to a gray until they are repaved.

Wow it looks nice! Can't wait to see an ingame screenie. It might be a bit early to ask but, is it going to be compatable with the Euro street mod and have turning lanes?

@LivinginthePast: i suppose red road is a good term....and it's not just Louisiana, most, actually all Southern States have that color
