Simfan34 Haha, yep. It's pretty long. But, thats how big runways really are! I guess it just shows how small Nemonos still is. hehe. The mall has long since been finished. I've just been too busy to get an update on it, sorry. I haven't forgotten. It will come... eventually.

HabLeUrG Thanks! I'm glad you like it. Thanks for the suggestion too. 4.gif Always great to get some solid input from the community. I agree about the farms. They would definately add to the realism. Unfortunately, I just don't have the attention span to make mass farms. I tried it once... the result? I started a new region, haha. At one point in my CJ I mentioned that there are no farms because the founders of the region had planned to grow the city over everything so that would just be pointless... I know, pretty cheesey reason eh? But the real truth is that I'd just get too bored too quickly and then it would look like crap. Sorry.

DFire870 Yep, that was one of the main reasons for the new airport. Gotta be prepared for the future!! I was using the scale that each small city tile is 1km x 1km (I'm quite certain this is the proper scale). Therefore the runways should be just shy of 4000m which is about 13000 feet.

IDS2 Thanks! Program? Ummm... photoshop?? haha. That little town is... aww jeez, I forget the name... its too late at night for this haha!

Schulmanator-both posts Thanks! Thats only because you don't hardly ever do region pics!

homeandaway Thank you! **cough** see my sig **cough** hahaha. Was that too subtle?

asturianu Thanks! Wow, you are very excited. Perhaps too much coffee this morning? My downtown is dense! 150 000 people in about the area of 1/2 medium city tile!

Benedict! Thanks, long time no see! I know you want that subway map. It will come... I hope... I mean I want to do it. But time just never seems to be there 15.gif

capitol1 Thanks! San Fran? I'd say Chicago more like it. But I like san fran so maybe its subliminally coming into play, haha. It could be the airport. San Francisco International is very similar in style to the downtown airport in my city.

GreekMan Thanks! I like both, they both have their strengths. This was actually from region census too. Just photoshopped up a wee bit, hehe.

homeandaway Thank you very much. I'll get more someday... when I have more time... and energy. Work is so draining these days. I'm also on an Age of Empires craze with my best friend, gotta love multiplayer! mwahahaha

    daneil01 Thank you. 4.gif

GMT Thanks alot! Glad you like it. 9.gif

Jacky Thanks again, you're always a great support. Its much appreciated.

Voulpiotis Thank you. Stay tuned for more... eventually... hehe

AfroThundaMan Thanks. Haha, Great minds think alike 10.gif j/k. lol. It's high time for airport renovations I guess. Yep. the leafs won. Should have won the first game too. But alas. Go Leafs Go!!!

Simcity Freak Thank you very much! I love them too. aha. Oooo, how I love just staring and planning about future growth. I do it at work ... dont tell my boss... shhhh.38.gif  What do you mean the graphic isn't good?

Interchange Oooookay. This is a doozey of a reply and so it will get a doozey of a response. haha. Yes, its separated from the rest cuz its going to be that big! hehe

First I'd just like to thank you for getting so involved in my CJ! That's a real honour. I can see you've taken alot of your own time to make this plan and think about how to help make my city better. That means alot to me. Thanks. Now I will go through your post and answer all of your questions hopefully to your liking (or at least so you see where I'm coming from).

Before I start though I see that most of this focuses around the central issue that my city is located in the USA and for all practical reasons it is nothing like an American city. I understand this and have said numerous times that this is because the founders tried to be 'different' from everything around them. Also, the fact of the matter is, Until Update 19 I honest to goodness hadn't even figured (or given it much thought) where on Earth Nemonos is! So you'll see why things are a bit off.

first of all it's your highways, I know this is just a CJ and all, but couldn't you make them more realistic? Interstates go higher in number north to south and west to east, and I saw that 35 and 90 were sorta in the area, even though you rerouted them on the map, also for the spur routes, interstate routes can have 3 digit spurs that don't connect to anything that are odd (like 390) or if they connect to another route then the prefix is even (235), just a suggestion.quote>

Yes, that is very true. As I said, Nemonos wasn't originally in the USA so the highway numbers are just off the top of my head. I won't change the numbers now even though I've decided where it is because its just too much trouble. I've already made 20 updates worth of content with these numbers so forgive me for not wanting to rewrite all that history! But I appreciate your thought. Also, to be blunt, I honestly had no idea there was a numbering system to interstates.... the last time I was in the US was when I was in grade 6! Trust me it was a long time ago.

Furthermore, I've on a couple occasions made mention that the Nemonos expressways are run by a regional agency called the 'Nemonos Regional Transportation Authority' and not the feds, so they wouldn't be part of the interstate network anyway.

Again you'll obviously undertand that when I flooded half of Wisconsin and Minnesota I really didn't see myself as trying to create a realistic midwest city to the letter.

was also wondering why there wasn't a baseball stadium around? I really wish you would have put that in the downtown land, I think it would have looked nice therequote>

Baseball, ahhh yess. The american passtime. haha. There are 2 reasons for this. One is philosophical and the other is pragmatic. First for some philosophy a la moi. I don't like baseball **cringes**. I am Canadian, and darn proud of it. Hockey is my game 124%. Football (both types) is good too. But I just love hockey. So I don't really care to build a baseball stadium in my city for that reason. I know its an American city and there should be a baseball stadium.... but... haha. Now for the pragmatic reason. None of my cities (until like update 17) have had enough population to get the major league baseball stadium reward! So, obviously I couldn't build it, haha.

What are you planning on doing with that old airport? it is an eyesore, and could easily be converted (well sorta)...I was thinking a big park with the baseball staduim in itquote>

The airport? Hmmm, I never even thought to change it to something else. I'd just figured it would continue to be a small regional airport. Renovating the site is an interesting idea. I'll give that some consideration for later once the big airport is done.

and then a suspension bridge linking it to downtown Nemonos, quote>

As cool as that would be its simply impossible to do based on the orientation of the city tiles. Downtown and the airport are in 2 different tiles with the border being in the middle of the river. Sorry, nothing I can do about that. 15.gif

I drew out a little map with a few proposals.

    http://img211.imageshack.us/my.php?image=proposaloz6.jpgquote>

Thanks for the map! It really illustrates your ideas. I definately know what your are talking about perfectly (I already did but everybody loves perdy pictures 9.gif haha). I'll specifically address your proposed beltway. Now I completely understand given the satellite picture you used why you would not notice the problem with that or the reason Nemonos is shaped the way it is. I'll refer to one of the very first pictures I ever uploaded for my CJ.

    1.jpg

As you can see There are some big hills in the area. Now they may not look mountainous but I assure you they are more than sufficiently steep than to restrict building. Nemonos has grown around the hills in the lowland areas along the rivers. I'm sure now you can see it even on the heavily treed satellite pic. So you'll understand that there is no need to extend the highways to cover areas where there will never bee any significant development and why the highways are developed the way they are.

Also, what about the suburbs? I know most of them are linked together, but I would like to see Sunset Beach, and maybe a few other of the cities that you haven't identifiedquote>

I'm not entirely sure what this is about, I guess you just want me to do more updates on the suburbs? For sure I will, you'll just have to hunker down and bear with me as I get through this downtown work and the airport stuff. I will not forsake the suburbs indefinately. So, I hope you will stay!

and also a stack interchange in downtown would nicely replace that cloverleaf.quote>

Not a fan of the cloverleaf? haha. A valid point. I might work on that later. There's a stack interchange just down Highway 2 in Maple Heights (see update 5.3 and 5.4)

Ok, wow. Thats the biggest reply I've ever done. I hope you are satisfied by being the victim of this record setting reply. I know you put alot of thought into your post so I felt I should honour you with a fair response to all of your queries

**here marks the return to normal replies**

AfroThunda Haha, yea, I suspected as much when I saw his name as well. Thanks for not getting mad at him for being critical of my work. I know some people can get all up in arms about such things. 4.gif

DFire870 Lol, yes. Or like Toronto's City Centre Airport [linkie]   Hmmm. Lots of support for this beltway. Lest we forget Nemonos already has an inner beltway (see highway 2 corridor through West Nemonos, Maple Heights, South Nemonos and a bit of the burbs. 2.gif

Interchange I draw maps too! And believe it or not the first thing I ever did in this region was draw a map of the planned expressways system. I've stayed very true to my original plan thus far. So, you'll again not why I like it, haha.

GreekMan Don't bomb Nemonos! Please, won't someone please think of the children!!!

IDS2 I agree, some great ideas by Interchange. And I will give a couple of them some good consideration.

Interchange I think I've already responded to this idea a couples times, haha I'm too lazy to again.

Oooook Wow, biggest reply post ever? **knocks on wood to not get JRun error thinermajig**

annnd I did. Booourns, gotta love the back hot-key 9.gif

Wow, you've had a page flip bug, and a JRun error all at the same time...weird.

Sorry I haven't been around here too much. I looke over the last few pages and it looks great! Awesome region shot. I don't think Nemonos needs too many changes, but it'll be interesting to see what you'll do to it

I've been getting that Jrun error all day, and I forgot about that bridge idea, it's hard to notice where the tiles are, and I didn't realize it even though I should have since I haven't played sim city in about a year (but hopefully soon!)...and about the beltway, I always liked developments in the hills, so do the richer people, and terraforming can be fun, if you think about it.

Haha, first you had to do a huge reply, then the JRun error, then the page flip bug. Looks like the server couldn't handle that massive reply! 18.gif

Anyways, oops, I forgot there was an inner beltway, haha. Although, the proposed beltway kinda reminds me of the SH 130 corridor being built to the east of Austin, TX (where I live).

EDIT: Interchange's reply above mine actually could work, as the rich CEOs and whatnot would have excellent views (especially near the river).

There's just something that bugs me about that downtown, it's so isolated, which is why I wanted the baseball stadium and freeway connection, but I know you're trying to keep it realistic, and that skyline just doesn't look that way, I mean most of it does, but then you have buildings that are almost as tall as some of New Yorks jutting out, and that's mostly not possible. What you need to do is expand the skyline a bit to the south where all those lowrises are and that will help, and if you could also make something like San Francisco's embarcadero along the downtown shoreline. Like this picture demonstrates:

    275756973_b1479c1226.jpg?v=1161529040

    196922974_cef6c0ec16.jpg?v=0

    10784483_c982088982.jpg?v=0

    104668367_d61debf59d_m.jpg

I tried drawing out something simliar for you just to explain it better, but the main thing is to not put your buildings right up on the water and nowhere else, it just looks unnatural, so the best idea would to extend the shoreline and do a parkish type thing with like a ferry terminal to even it out.

    **goggles head***

Nemonos WAS very small! Look at how it's grown!!!!!

Great work Giligone. The nice thing about your citites that I lack is the suburban sprawl in the shapes, whree i kind of stretches up...you know? Makes it look nicely realistic. And congrats on page 28!

Hey, yea... That was a long reply haha, your fingers must hurt! But, I wasn't getting mad at Interchange, I like his ideas... However, I definetly think you should create an alternative route to bypass downtown. If you look at most cities (Def in the U.S. and most likely in Canada too) there is always an alternative route to avoid downtown rush hour traffic. You already have most of it built to the west, and part of the south, so you'd only have to concentrate to the north. I think if you build it it would be a huge project (perhaps DBSB could fund it for you! {how is that tower coming anyway..?}). It would open more space for "suburban" development and make the region as a whole flow a little better. Just my two cents!

football_fever Haha, yea... I know how to work around the JRun... but somehow the actual number of posts and the number of posts in the thread index deviated ... Its now up to 3. Which means theres 3 more posts in my CJ than it thinks there are. So it doesn't flip the next page until it gets to the threshold it thinks is right, when in fact 3 posts have already been made on that next page... grrr.

Interchanage Yea, that JRun is annoying... oh so annoying. About this beltway, I think you aren't hearing me... so I'll just say it. "There will be no beltway". Sorry, but I really just don't want one. I've done beltways in past cities and this time, no beltways! haha. Nothing against your idea. Its a good one. I just don't want a beltway.

DFire870 Lol, yea. ST can't handle Nemonos! bwahahaha 38.gif j/k

GreekMan Thanks, and I'm glad you don't actually want to bomb Nemonos. The review? Umm, I dunno. I guess they forgot. Meh, I don't really care.

Interchange A shoreline park eh? **ponders this idea at great length

Jacky Thanks! More to come... lots more! 9.gif

IDS2 Haha, I know! I forget how small it was until I see those pics. Thanks!

AfroThunda Indeed, a beltway to go around the city would be a good idea... were there somewhere to go around the city to! **points to fact that Highway 2 just ends north of Cairn. But fear not. Many more highways will be built in the burbs. Thanks for your support and ideas! 9.gif

    homeandawayThank you very much!

Simcity Freak Thanks! Yea... its a big pic but low res. There's only so much detail in a region shot! haha

GreekMan Congrats on the 1000th post. You'll likely pass me. I've been slowing on my posting as of late. A big huge massive update to come... soo big in fact that... well you'll see.

homeandaway Your wish is my command... or action... w/e you get the idea!

    21_title_block.jpg

Ok ok ok. So I haven't done a real actual update in like 3 weeks! I know, bad me. But fear not. For I've been working on the downtown over this time and it's finally ready to be unveiled!

I also got a tad carried away. So this update will have to be split in half because theres too many pics to put on one page! Yes, its just that big. Now I've got all the pics done, so be sure to reply to this update so we can get to the next page so i can post the 2nd half of the update! Without further adieu.

I give you the Downtown Nemonos MEGA UPDATE!!!! **thundering voice causes earthquake**

Nemonos is the most beautiful city I've ever seen. Not to mention the most realistic. Far, far superior to any other cj. Spectacular!!!! **updates signature**
