Ah--Los Angeles. My favorite city, having grown up here much of my life. Though I now live in Orange County, I still look forward to the 50 minute trips every few weeks or so to skateboard with my old homies in this concrete jungle. Hollywood movie stars, palm trees, gangs and riots, traffic, an assortment of different cultures--IT'S ALL HERE! Though it might not everyone's favorite city--

WELCOME TO LOS ANGELES

Nighttime. Los Angeles at it's twilight. Seeing the city zip by at night on the freeway is such a unique experience. You see through the windows the lives of all the people who live there--4 million strong.

The contrast. Green parks and dusty freight yards...

Westwood, Los Angeles. Does the university UCLA ring a bell?

And the street I grew up on! Van Nuys Blvd. San Fernando Valley. Strip malls, helicopters looking for a criminal (for real), crowded apartments, Mexican music, and corner meat markets. I visit my friends here and skateboard on this street occasionally! 4.gif

The CITY OF ANGELS!

LA really isnt my favorite city, I like NY a lot better one reason being is that it has fall, winter, spring and summer. I dont like a hot climate all the time46.gif.  But LA is a nice cityin some ways to.  The skyline isnt that terrific, but thats not what makes up a city.  The only thing good about LA, TO ME is that they make movies over there.  And the beaches too.  But I have that here in Joisey lol!! We really dont talk like that! o0 and there is no way to get around besides a car, which I dont like, I like mass transit a whole lot better.

That's a misunderstanding. It's only smoggy mostly during some parts of the summer or in extreme heat. When it rains (which it did a little), it washes all of it away. And then...blue sky.

I'm completely shocked that I didn't see a photo of LA with the Rocky Mountians in the background. I saw a photo like that once and it blew my mind away!

@aleking: Really, well i'll have you know that the high-rise boom in L.A. is much stronger than New York's2.gif

Also, if Villaragoisa's plan works, then L.A. would be the center of Far Eastern trade in the U.S.A.

@manman99:  Well thats what you would say because you are from New York City!

And since when was New Jersey(is that Joisey?) part of the Big Apple?  Its in another state!

If it was, then it would be fair to say that the O.C. and I.E. are part of Los Angeles as well.16.gif

@SpecialEddie: Correction....and don't forget that Southern California is leading the way ahead of the nation in the fight to curb greenhouse gases that cause Global Warming.

    L.A. all the way!!9.gif

@Micah: Um do you mean the Big Bear mountains or Angeles Nat. Forest Mountains.....cuz i don't think that you could see the Rockies from that far off18.gif

Rocky Mountains? Hmm...if I could see about 1,500 miles away, maybe. But from LA--no!

There we go. I found a bigger one, but for some reason it wouldn't show on Yahoo.

If your an oil exec or the family of one, your favorite city will be LA. If you hate skyscrapers and a lack of urbanism, then you'll love LA. If you just hate the concept of not using a car to get anywhere, then you'll hug LA. But, if you're an efficient person, your not gonna be living in LA. Obviously, I'm not trying to offend anyone, it's just that suburbs are horrible.

Is there a "middle class" in LA and its outskirts? Sure seems like there's not.

No offence, but are you ignorant? LA is more middle-class than either poor or rich. Most of the Los Angeles area is middle-class, even the rough parts.

Once again I have to touch on this topic, DON"T JUDGE LOS ANGELES OFF OF WHAT YOU HEARD, who ever said Rodeo drive could be nicer I don't know what you were expecting or if your judging it off that pic but Rodeo Dr is a very nice environment, LOS ANGELES DOES HAVE A MASS TRANSIT, ppl just feel more comfortable in their car as I do, but I have caught the Train to Laker games in Downtown Los Angeles, which goes from Downtown Long Beach to Downtown Los Angeles and beyond in several different directions, I have also taken the train from my house to Hollywood, we have buses as well, I as well as many of my friends don't have the patience to sit around and wait for a train or a bus when I could just drive. I personally like the skyline as well, I like the fact that none of the buildings are shadowed by another unlike some places, I like the way they line up next each other and how they look @ night. People also only see Downtowns Skyline, this is how I know most ppl haven't been to LA and are just judging off of what they heard or read. Los Angeles actually has three different Skylines, not including the greater Los Angeles (Downtown Long Beach), we have as you all know Downtown Los Angeles, Century City (which is an unincorporated area of Los Angeles, which is kind of like the Entertainment Downtown, Fox has its high-rise their and many entertainment lawyers and agencies work out of Century City) and the Mid Wilshire District which has Miracle Mile, Just look up Mid Wilshire and Century City, you Can also look Up LA Live and the Grand Ave project to see the new addition to Downtown

Don't forget Westwood. Some beautiful high-rises there. It's the classic Los Angeles setting many people may have imagined.

Hey, there's always the incredibly convoluted bus system! I give huge props to anyone who can figure that system out...LOL

Nah, I like LA. Not my favorite city, but I don't understand all the hatin. Gotta love the weather...and all that smog talk is mostly hype...if you want smog, look at the Central Valley or San Bernardino.

-LA and California are just as important as new york washington dc etc.....(new york is alrite)

-even tho we may be one of the most dangerous cities cause gangs and mafia and all that and riots we are still the best

-from Malibu to laguna beach to me its the best city in this country

I love the Los Angeles area (well, specifically Orange County... where I'm from). I'll give you one reason why the L.A. metro area surpasses every other "best city in the US": the weather forecast for the upcoming week and New Year's Day.

    New York: 50's

    Chicago: 40's

    Houston: 50's

    Philly: 50's

    Boston: 50's

    DC: 50's

    Seattle: 40's

LA & OC: 70 degrees, partly cloudy.

That sounds like some nice beach weather. So while most of the country shovels their driveway or worries about a stubborn heater in their unfortunate-suffocating-highrise, I'll be dressed in shorts and an SC jersey while sipping mixed drinks and making sand castles. Sounds like a plan, haha.

Is it just me or from those pictures does Downtown LA look MINUTE? It looks as if there's just one interchange for it and thats it.... Downtown Atlanta (the city where I reside) appears 4 times larger than Downtown LA...

that's what a lot of people say, but if you look at the diagrams at skyscraperpage.com the Los Angeles buildings are a lot taller than Atlanta

Most LA buildings are scattered in a bunch, glendale, westwood, century city, all have pretty decent skylines but are scattered

so actually, Atlanta is a lot smaller than LA
