Press and hold ALT, then type 0 1 6 7 in that order on yourf number pad.

It is called a section sign. To type it just type &-#-1-6-7 (without the hyphens) in the quick reply window and you will get § character.

You can also find the symbol using the Windows Character Map.

Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\Character Map

Be careful how to type the symbol. Alt+0167 is §, and just typing Alt+167 gives you a º.

Shooshie, that's ASCII for you..American Standard Code for Information Interchange.  us Mac users use the same character set as our Poor Cousins, but we have less keys to type

alt+789 also works, and it's easy. I didn't know about alt+21 but I knew alt+0167

In some programs the ascii repreats the code, so for me alt+0345 is Y, but it should be ? (R with a caron accent (a little v on top))

Actually, ASCII in the original is a seven bit code and has only 128 symbols.  However, the extended ASCII code X3.64 includes 256 symbols of the IBM 8-bit set.  Subsequent to that, an ISO standard adopted it, then a new 16-bit code (UNICODE) has been standardized containing  65,536 symbols, which is large enough to handle all the roman languages, various symbol sets and many others as well.
