Bonjour BarbyW,

this thread hasn't been used for a while, but I wanted to ask if it's still possible to get a range for prop families. Do You also have a list for building families?

Do you need many? I'm asking because I have had an ID range reserved for 6459978 & me a while ago, and I have many free slots left.

I was wondering if I could request some. I don't need many, in fact all I need is about 7 or 8:

1 for free-standing billboard signs

1 for mounted (put on the side of a building) billboard signs

1 for ground level billboard signs

2 for yard objects for homes

2 for industrial areas

1 for backup if anything else was to be created

I just hope I'm not asking too much. =/

For quite some time now I have been responsible for the Prop Family Index so any requests for ranges can be made here or over at the CB Website and I'll try and get back to you as soon as possible

I have been very conscience of the fact since SimPeg demise that if something were to happen either to me or the CB website that the Prop Family Index could disappear as well, the Prop Family Index has been on a private group over at CB, I have now made it an group that anyone can view or join, please note that this group has post moderation set on it that means any new posts will go into a pending folder until a group admin can check and OK it.

The Prop Family Index is going to issued by the staff at SC4 Devotion from now on, so if anyone wants a range you can request it over here

I won't be getting rid of the Prop Family Index at CB it will remain as a backup, but it will be going back to a private group and @Tarkus will have access to it should it ever be needed in the future, any problems see Tarkus who's an administrator at SC4 Devotion.

PS: I'm not leaving Simtropolis or anything, but I visit SC4D so infrequently these days and to be honest probably would have long since stopped going to SC4D (and this is no reflection on SC4D or the people over there ... its a great site as are the people, but I really don't play SC4 these days and am spending more time over on the Banished sites) if it hadn't been for the Prop Family Index.

I have requested an ID range on sc4 devotion but I am not sure if anybody is dealing with that over there.

I think that having one list that people are able to reference (like on page 1 of this post) would be really helpful. Can anybody help with that?

Give me a chance, it's been a very busy couple of days, but if you look in the relevant thread you'll see I'm pretty on top of managing these, no one waits months (or weeks) for an answer.

Why do you feel this would be useful?, after all there is no real need to know the IDs of Prop Families you aren't using. Likewise knowing which user had which IDs is just not information that has a single use I can think of, aside from people 'borrowing IDs'.

The master list is simply there for those assigning ranges to keep track of things, but I don't really see any benefit of making that public, in fact I think that might actually be a bad idea.

Hi @rsc204, apologies if I stressed you out or offended you, that was not my intention :) I am most grateful for your service to this big community and I can imagine it comes with lots of little tasks and requests!

There is probably no larger benefit to having the list available for everyone, you are right. It's just my general interest of things - to see how many are actually issued and which different  people are all involved in creating prop families.

two questions:

may I have a Prop/Building Family IID range please?

and

is there such a thing as a Lot Family? The typical use of a Building Family is that you have one lot and it produces a random building each time, but always in the same position, and the props and textures remain the same, etc. What I'm thinking of is basically the opposite: one lot that produces the same building each time, but with randomized lot layouts (i.e. you create whatever number of lots, with different textures, props, etc, and the game chooses a random one to plop/grow).

Looking to make a seasonal prop. As I searched the forums, it looks like I need a prop family ID - is this the right place to request this?

Times/Seasonal props do not require using a Prop Family. You’d only need that if you are making a random family of props, (note this effectively doesn’t work for Seasonal props either).
