Sound like what I did, but a bit different. It took me about the same amount of time, however over many more days (didn't have the time), didn't want to rush it.

And now I amgoing on: editing some files. Like I give all the schools values that are more or less balanced in relation to each other. I moved all harbourlike lots to the harbourmenu. Edited some names and other entries And I am trying to find the right terrain modd to fit my wishes......

In other words: a hell of a job, but its moving on and getting almost done now.

And then.... Play again on a new landscape!

hello,

Are you able to help me get a bigger plug in folder please.

When i hit properties mine says sIZE 1.86 MB (1,953,669 bytes) and size on disk 2.16 MB (2,269,184 bytes) it contains 107 folders,  i downloaded from here.

The game is now so slow i dont wana play it.

I see in the forums that people have far bigger plug in folders than i do.

I am no good at messing around with the pc but its new twin cor chip with 2 MB of memory

6400 @2.13GH chip on XP, i took vista off. it runs on a radeon graffics card 1600 series.

Im using sim city 4 and im waitting for an order for the add on rush hour.

Im sorry if i am in wrong place to ask this question and thank you anyway for your answers here.

have a nice happy day

stefan

Stefan2006:

The size that shows for a folder is only for that lone folder, it won't include the size of the subfolders.

If you could start a new topic in the Bugs & Technical Issues forum, that would be better.

stefan2006, you might need to consider upgrading your pc if possible, your not working with much.

Stefen2006 ---- You have WAY more horsepower there than you need for SC4. I don't know what you have wrong, but I doubt it relates to your folder size (and as was pointed out it isn't relevant anyways) .. you probably should "ease in" to the megafiles of stuff.. I'd guess you have conflicting and / or missing material in your installations.. The only way I know to solve the issue is to start out with just simcity and add in 2 or 3 new things at a time, carefully "sandboxing" .. (that is just playing around with it in a city you don't plan on saving) until you are satisfied it works properly.. then getting more.. When you are done, not only will you have a good idea of what you have there and how it works, but that it works properly, but you will also have noted whatever performance issues that arise as they 'creep up" on you rather than in an essentially unsolvable mess.. good luck on it.. happy sim'ing.. 4.gif

The more plugins we have the more memory it takes? o.O... So if I have 5 or 8 plugins, how much memory will it take? T_T i hope not much.. because I only have 1.2gb ram and the sim city seems to take a lot of ram @.@

Plugin residency doesn't get to be a problem until you have a lot of them.  Make sure you have lots of virtual memory.  with 1.2GB RAM, you should have at least 3.6GB of virtual space.

The best advice in any situation is never run things to the limit. You leave little room for much else, and giving everything you have means you run the risk of runnig out of steam. I'd rather have more than I'll ever need than have just what I'd. Age has taught me that things always change, that is why the moose started this thread, we only learn if we look into the past. Ok I'm done bantering. 4.gif

Yo, why cant they just gather ALL the textures and props, put them in one folder, name it the massive texture and prop folder containing the latest texture and prop, and download it, and as the new ones come out, they tell you wich ones to delete.

Itll help alot of people, and itll save people time from having to organise it. They open the folder, serch for the texture or prop told to delete, and tada. Ones deleted, download the new ones, and yall good.

That would save people from the dependencies. Now for the other downloads, make a folder with the type of building you downloading, under that folder, the name of the artist, and under that folder, his download, because there isnt no way to get that fixed, unless they took the time to bundle all their buldings and stuff into another folder, and allow you to choose wich buildings you wanted before you install it. Kinda like the NAM when it allows you to choose. Its complicated to explain, and very long... so i would rather let you be creative and figure it out lol, but hopefully yall know what i mean.

Sigdelequa, its not that simple. You may dwld something that requires one texture from a prop pack or require multiple textures from many, across the board, its like a maze of files. There isn't any perfect solution at the current time with current game. Everybody just has to make up there on system that works for them.

    Hi there,

Recognize the problem, there are so many great items on the STEX. It got a complete mess. I threw out all the plugins and started to use the pluginmanager. Very handy. Also, for the downloaded items I have a Simlib folder, my library of downloaded stuff. Like N-O-Body, I have organized the plugin folder. Saves you tons of time :-). Other: I am adding no more than two or three items per time. If it gets messy or it doesn't work well, you can easily trace it back.

    Hope this helps,

    Goodluck,

I am currently working on a plugin folder solution that will make finding and dwlding new plugins much easier. Now this is not some mod or installer or anything like that, more like hard work and an idea. I'm a visual guy, so if you show me I get, I remember it, tell me it and I might not understand. My last project wasn't completed because it got to repetitive and lost interest, but I have new steam. So hopefully in a week or less I'll be finished, when I am, I will upload some images of my system that might make you guys rethink your system. This system will greatly help when you using the pliuginmanager, because you'll know right where to look. Anywho thought I'd just give you something to look forward to.

I'm just starting to download some more stuff from STEX but after reading this I think maybe I'll play it safe and stick to the basics like I've got... I tried sandboxing but still couldn't figure out how to get the dependecies right. Is there any other topic I can see to get more info on textures and props?

    Hi all,

I usually follow the N_o_Body advice, but, since the beginning I realize something very annoying for me, the menus is getting a mess! I have downloaded a lot of plugins, and a lot of then are with strange names, sometimes in wrong menus and it's very common I get myself completely lost. I really don't know how to solve this, I think that it can be related to sc4lot file, but I don't know how to work with this file.

I would like to do something like, for example, in menu "Parks" divide files in groups like "Wall", "Water Canal", "Plazas" and so on... to landmarks and all other menus that I fell necessary.

If anybody knows how to do this, please help me.

    Thanks in advanced!

There is a release call DAMN on SC4D website that may help with sub menus.  Speaking of plugins I need help finding plugin 890822018 (hex 3518DD82).  Unfortunately I don't how to translate the hex into readable data.

If you are getting a missing plugin on entry to a city, look for brown boxes.  If you query the lot, you can find out what it is, then proceed to the STEX to get the missing stuff.  You may have missed a dependency.

Thats the odd thing, there is no brown box (or green and red flag since I have that plugin) and I have too many plugins to take the regular fix it route.  I believe one of the other moderators (Voar Tok I think) was talking about hex values on another forum. (4got which one)

K808j, if you didn't have the plugin to start with, I doubt you can find it with the number. If you had it, then deleted it you might be able to track it down.

Try taking out the "flag" mod, to see if the box shows up, the flag will get covered up by larger props.

Even with flag mod removed no brown box,  I'll just deal with it.  Hopefully its not the cause of my game shutting down.

k808j, I'll bet that's the reason your game is shutting down. I had the same problem once, everytime I moused over a lot the game shut down to desktop.

I don't know where to post this so I'll give it a shot here. I just reloaded SC4RH and I noticed that some lots such as the playground that is included with the game is showing up as just grass when I zoom all the way in. I click on the lot that I placed and it's showing that it's a playground? I am scratching my head as to what it might be because this is a park that is included in the install. Maybe someone here can point me to the right area or what might be causing the problem. I am using a few mods and add on buildings from STEX. Thanks for any help!

Set the game graphics option to medium, or high, that should take care of it. Anytime you install, or update the game the options are set to default, which is low.

Alright, I changed the graphic settings for everything to high and the defalt park playground included with the game is still showing up as grass. I noticed that some of the residential areas are still showing grass as well, but when I click on them it says it's occupied (i.e. houses!). Any ideas? Thanks again!

edit: Found out what was wrong. After I changed the settings a message came up that I didn't read (duh). You have to exit the game and restart
