Yahoo, 1st post.....Youppie, first one to post..........Alright, I am the first.........etc...etc...

I see these phrases (and many more different ones like it) quite often (almost one out of three) on the STEX comments. I maybe don't get it, but what the heck is sooooooooooooo special about being the first to comment on the Stex, when a new upload has arrived? Do we get points or something everytime we are the first to comment, or does that give us a special price, gift or something else .......Maybe I'm missing something. Am I ?

I would have understand that some of these little kids would love to post the first comment on a STEX upload only once in awhile, but heck....., more than half of the ST population is posting this.....????? Just making me wonder.......

I dunno. I think maybe it's because the person saw the BAT magically appear on the page after refreshing--and it's ripe with 0 views, 0 comments--so...they get really excitied and blow their exclamations.

And I really don't know why there'd be a thread on this...it's just a habit some posters do. So...just relax and don't get in a hype about it. The comment takes up what--half an inch on the screen? Why is it such a big deal?

It's like double posting--they happen on accident or n00bs don't know. There's no reason for bashing.

Mrbisonm... I'm actually shocked that someone with a membership as long and illustrious as yours doesn't know this!  Yes you are missing something!  Although we don't get points, per se, the "first to comment" is in fact a winner in the eyes of all.  What actually happens is that the first comment triggers one of those friendly "worm" viruses.  This embeds itself in your plugins folder until the first time you use the new lot in you city.  At that point, the building (or whatever it is) explodes into a cloud of digital bunnies and triggers a hidden TRK file from Dirk himself offering his congratulations and gratitude for your continued support of Simtropolis.

Pretty cool, huh?

I never quite understood it ethier...but it's actully against the rules on STEX to do a post that pretty much only says something like 'first to comment!'

4. Do not do "First to comment!" comments

Such comments are spam if they do not actually comment the file itself. Commenting is not a race. You will not get an award if you comment first.

well, it is actually quite annoying little habit... people who have otherwise nothing to say keep yapping about nonstop - it simulates sense of achievement and importance. Fakes the Life. Generally innocent enough, but may turn sour cause some start really think it is important and meaningful. Unfortunately there isn't anything that could be done, one may only hope some kids will eventually grow up. And, oh dream of mine, will one day have something more informative and meaningful to say, and, do I dare to say - to people in the real world!! It is very common occurrence nowadays all over the net.

Well, I've done it sometimes, but I always say something about the download itself. But I've seen some comments that are just "YYYEEEESSSSSSS first comment OMG!!! HAhA beat all you suckerss!!! LOLLL" OK, that is exagerated, but that's all they say.... It's pointless.

I dont really get either. My theory is people find enjoyment and a feeling of success or accomplishment by getting the first of things. I think they should concentrate more on becoming first in school or something instead of wasting time getting a post first...no offence but I find it kind of sad and i also admit i did this like 2 times when i first joined but stopped because i felt stupid.

I especially don't like seeing the same person always doing the first comment and doing this:

YAY!!W00T FIRST COMMENT AHAHAHA!!!!

with no actual comment on the upload what so ever. I'm not gonna point fingers but i've seen someone do that.

As a non-BATter, I find it annoying as well...

Why not delete the senseless comments? Maybe that would prevent people from doing those kind of first posts and maybe they even start to say something constructive about the download itself. Maybe it's worth an experiment. A lot of maybes here ... Just my $0.02.
