Wow, that does look a lot like Telus Field. I go by it every day on my way to work. I was always wondering how the roads down there would look on SC4, with all the combinations of avenues splitting into 1 ways, etc.

    Development Begins
Ive started some development of the city to get away from building roads. The roads are 2/3rds to 3/4th finished. I started in Mayfield do to it being mid class and having alot of Ind jobs near it. To balance the demands and get the city growing this was a good area to start. As the demands jump up and down it will determin how the city grows. SC wasn't made for city after city of housing. Hopefully I can over come that. Here is a small teaser of alot that should come soon.

It's great to see people in the region, JD. I hope the development goes well (I can understand it will be tough). Looking forward for more...

    -Several Sports fields and paths

I did one draft a while ago manly from what I remember. Here is the Ait photo...Currnet View and Old Draft. I may make some small changes but this is a good as I think I can get it without BATting the whole thing.

Edmonton votes for a new mayor.
Stephen Mandel was elected Edmonton's 30th mayor on Monday night, cruising to an easy victory over three-term incumbent Bill Smith.
                            -Edmonton Journal
Stephan Mandel somewhat came in as the dark horse. Trailing in 3rd for most of the campaign it was the undecided voter who gave him the last minute win.
Bill Smith was Edmonton's mayor for 9years and braught many world class events to the city,
-2001 World Track and Feild Championship. (3rd largest sporting event on earth in viewership).
    -Triathalon World Cup (yearly).
    -World Cup of swimming.
-2005 World Master Games (Largest athletic compition on Earth in how many athletes participate).
    -2004 Juno Awards (Canadian Gramy's).
    -Plus many other notable events.
Bill Smith was also founder of the smoking By-law taking smoking out fo anywher public this up coming July. As a non-smoker I like this for many ways, as a bartender I'm going to lose alot of money at work most likely along with 1000's in my bizz.
Robert Noce who ran for his second time finished 3rd yet led the polls for most of the campaign.

After having the same mayor for 9years it will be weird having the new face. Edmonton has a good income in an oil rich province, along with a very low jobless rate. Housing here has nearly doubled in cost over the last 10 years aswell. It will be interesting to see a different policy since most of the canidates didn't make there intentions clear over the campaign.

    Update : October 19th.
In the last day i've began building on the city.
-The Road Network has alot of work to in many areas. The Roads are about 2 Thirds to 3 Quarters done.
-But to keep my sanity I've began building the city and just in the matter of a day I have nearly 50,000 people in housing alone. Westmount Shopping Center and area has been built up a bit aswell as other areas near there on the west end of the city.
I have a zoning map of Edmonton which nearly shows where every building goes....Weather its an RA7 (Highrise) or CNC (Convenience Store), I have the means to map it now.
-My Biggest Challenge is keeping all the residential employed. With small roads running threw nieghborhoods and city after city lot of housing this will be the biggest challenge. I have already somewhat solved some problems. And in Westmount a 2x2 map I've completed about 1 third of the map and it's already at 25,000 in housing. I'll have pictures of this later when some more work has been done on the area.
-Also alot of the very simple costum lots I have made for the city such as 2x2 Ballparks or Parking Lots will be released on STEX over the next week or so...There nothing special but are very handy for gameplay.
-Also the placement of every house takes time. Having to make every second one Historical takes time. I do this so I dont get large res lots that wouldn't be there to begin with.

Keep the Request and Comments coming, they're what keeps me at a fast pace on this CJ. There will be a wide aspect of new things to see on this CJ now....Only took 14months for it to get interesting.

Hey man, great CJ and keep up the great work.

About the quote, I have a trick I use to avoid having to make so many houses historical. I'm at work right now so I can't post a screen shot, but I made this in photoshop:

    /idealbb/files/housing-ex.jpg

The black part can be any type of car transportation (road, street, ave). The trick is, if you don't zone the white areas, the game can't combine lots to create larger housing. This forces smaller lot single housing and to me look more like a real suburban layout. I then use a open grass lot with some trees on it in the white spots and they really start to look true neighborhoods. Sometimes I will sneak in a gazebo or playground to break it up a bit and up the land value.

    Anyway, just a trick I use.  1.gif

Shawn : Thanks I may try that and see how it looks. But i like the blended look and no gaps weather I used a filler lot or not.

    Westmount Area - First Draft
I worked on Westmount today aswell as a few other nieghborhoods. After taking this pic I referenced it and I see a few changes I will make next time I play. The appartments behind the mall are to big and too many. And the East side of the parking lot needs slightly altered. Plus a few other touch ups. This is one small area I made today with alot of other stuff to show.

    Hey Dan,

That looks absolutly amazing! I was waiting for this moment for a long time. BTW I don't want to rub it in but, what about those riders? I mean 40-16 is a pretty bad beating. Will this be our year? Anyway once again great job on the EDM project. I also agree that those apartments are to big. I saw a pic of them.

Thanks for everyones interest, views, and replies. Having alot of people tracking this keeps me motivated. Edmonton has a long way to grow but the next year ahead for the CJ should be the most interesting. With the roads being 2/3rds done and other parts ready to grow I'm looking forward to a fast pace compared to the last few weeks.

holy ****.  sorry, that was the most family friendly exclamation that explains how nice the zoned areas look.  19.gif

if you get a chance, do you think you could link to a big region census map?  (if you host it on imageshack, and post it as a link, it can be up to 1 MB.)  2.gif

You should REALLY BURN THIS THING on a CD right now so your work would be saved. I'm so damn jealous of you because you're so patient and my computer is crap I couldn't even replicate Vancouver...

davidhogan : I could link a full region census map. But I don't use or know of a host. Maybe if you know of a good host I could make this part of my updates.
A Killer Ewok : I save all my Sim City files once a month. Its funny one time after saving it I lost a whole nieghborhood. I just loaded that one map back up and everything was fine. Its about time for a save again....Maybe tonight.
flanig407 : Frogfaces SF is great. I know a few great replica CJ's. The reason this one doesn't grow as fast is every road is measured often more then once. And alot of buildings are watched while they grow and bulldozed until they come up as something thats half passible as the real thing. Only so many SC game lots to choose from LOL.
Vigo : I would like to see your work on this same region with my map.

Again thanks for the replies. I'm creeping into Downtown it seems. Ive done 124st a bit.
