Here is my latest project, another custom freight engine. This one will replace the previous custom engine.

I was going to include images with this but I keep getting this error.

FileUpload Object - Invalid Property Setting

    error '800a535d'

Extensions property input must be an array of extensions without the dot(.).

    /idealbb/upload/uploadclass.asp, line 1008

The images are JPGs and under the limits so I don't know why this is happening.

Keep up the superb work Trolca, now all we need is some better looking subway cars, never in my life have i ever seen subway cars with brown roofs. I think these need to be replaced, and to have different variations of these new cars, like base them on MTA subway cars, where it shows what line in is in the window with an "F" or an "O". Trolca is the only one who can do It, and do it well, so what do you say Trolca? Are you up to the challenge? Thank you for your kind words. I agree about the subway cars. It shouldn't be hard to do either.

For now, here is a more streamlined passenger engine. I included it in the updated passenger train multipack.

Here is the old passenger engine.                                        Here is the new one.

    /idealbb/files/PEOld1.jpg /idealbb/files/PENew2.jpg

    Again, old...

    /idealbb/files/PEOld2.jpg

    new.

    /idealbb/files/PENew1.jpg

The new one from another angle.

    /idealbb/files/PENew3.jpg

Both old, new as well as the freight engine with the Amtrak logo are included.

I think that the number of freight cars depend and demand. I have beeen able to get more than four.

Cool!  What were the "Capacity Used" statuses of the surrounding stations?  Where did you take the screenshot?  Now that you guys mention it, I have never seen freight trains longer than four cars, to my knowledge.  I have seen passenger trains, though.

I had an idea for a mod, I'm gonna go post it in the mod forum unless one of you guys can do it. I would like to see a that allows for plenty of trains to be seen with relativly little usage and even see some trains with no usage. I remember in SC3k I would make a lot of those trainhouses to see lots of trains going through my city, which made it look cool.5.gif

I am very puzzled as to how some have longer freight trains and mine are always five cars. The only way I ever had five freight cars is with my Caboose mod.

What are your industrial areas like? I've had longer freight trains than five cars. I don't use rail anymore, but if I remember correctly, the longest I ever counted was ten cars long.

My Industrial areas tend to be very densely packed, and mixed with a road grid as well. There were usually six tiles of industry on either side of the track before you'd find a road. Maybe your industry simply isn't dense enough to generate longer trains? I'm pretty sure it's based on something similar to what triggers longer passenger trains. (namely, more passengers, so in the case of freight, more industrial freight trips)

One thing that puzzles me is that there is always the same number of cars. Never four or six, always five counting the caboose. The only reason I can think of is that five is the minimum limit and my industry output doesn't put out enough to go past that point. But if that is the case then why does multiple trains leave at the same point, one right after the other instead of just one longer train?

I've tried to do a simple test. One of my cities is an industrial only city ( on a large map).
It supplies roughly 38,000 jobs to the surrounding regions,
I deleted all the neighbor road connections including highways, and only left my rail as is.
What happened was that I got a lot more usage out of my passenger rail, and some of my passenger trains did get as long as 13 or 14 cars.
My Freight trains though stayed the same length (6 -engine and caboose included), the frequency of them did increase to the point of where there were literally 4 freight trains driving end-to-end or queuing at my harbor at any one time.

I can unfortunately not upload (or download) anything to any website, or I

actually for rush hour i think maxis slowed the speed of the frieght trains and made them longer. if you go over to gamespot.com and watch the second rush hour movie they show a clip of a frieght train hitting a truck stalled on the railroad crossing. The train is much longer than the ones in SC4 and its moving much slower.

Maybe the Sim driving that train was actually smart in either slowing down at a grade crossing, or slowing down because of that stalled vehicle. 23.gif Smart Sims, Yeah Right 21.gif

THE THING ABOUT THIS IS...Wait, Caps Lock was on.  OK, I sure hope we get to see minor detail fixes like crossing arms for the road-rail intersections.  The gate comes down, and the cars pile up.  Now that I mention it, if the Sims actually did stop, people would be complaining about how much trains sucked since they have to avoid making road intersections.  So I guess Maxis had it right again.  Still, it would add a certain amount of realism to the game.

hopefully in rush hour you will be abel to make your roads go over or under your rail lines. that would be so realisitc. i live in a city of about 170,000 and have the main rail line between albany and boston running through it, and that line has 0 grade crossings on it. the only grade crossings i know of are on the spurs feeding the industrial areas. other than that all of the roads go under of over the tracks.

I also love trains, especially the newer diesel ones.

Did you know that the diesel engines are 2 stroke, a v-12, and 710 cubic inches. The horse power is 3200hp continuously. idle speed is 269rpm's, and full speed is 904rpm! The diesel engine runs a generator that runs electric motors!

You can edit the meshes once you export one from the ilive reader. You can import it into Auto CAD. I'm not sure about the full procedure.

Here is an update to the silver Amtrak series. I am now able to get logos to appear correctly on both sides of the passenger engines and cars. The cars are slightly longer and closer together for an over all better appearance.

One of the cars has graffiti on one side.

This set contains three engines and seven cars.

This set should not be used with any previous Passenger sets.

Trolca I love your trains but I have some questions ...

I rarely get a "true" Trolca train ... mine are normally mixed trains. Is there something I should do?

Could you be so kind as to RE-PACK your mods and include all the ones that can work with the original game in one DAT file and then make 2 DAT files for the ones that should not be used together ... this could be tricky nut make it simple ... FreightPack.DAT and PassPack.Dat

Now for one more suggestion ... please consider naming your DAT files something like this ....

    Trolca_AmtrakPack.DAT
    Trolca_TrainMultiPack.DAT

This will make it easier for us to maintain our DAT folder and it would make a lot more sense to me.

Finally ... why not consider the ComboDat Packs to be bundled and made available under the MODS ... I am sure that many people are missing your fabulous work because they do not read the Forum Threads.

Keep up the great work ... your mods has made me pay a lot more attention to railroads in my cities.

I will be doing that in the next day or so. With the passenger train multipacks, never using more then one at any time and don't using any other passenger train mods with them. This way you will see only one set (color scheme) at a time.

As for Freight, its pretty fexable. The box car multipacks can be used together along with the tanker multipack. Either the caboose variety or the no caboose last car variety can be used as well. The freight engines can be used in some combinations. Use only one replacement for the original engine as well as one for the steam engine. The other freight engines can be used freely.

Thank you I will try it like that.

Tonight I will spend a ltlle time with a Railway Station and see if I can do something with that building/lot ... maybe look at something that can serve as a bigger station and something that can work as a smaller station ... with me using the trains a lot more now I see that sometimes you need some variety.

Thanks again for your great work.

From now on I will be using a system for naming mods. With this system it will be easy to tell if one mod will cancel out another.

    3.gif>

The beginning of each mod name will have my Login name, the next part will be the type of engine or car. This last part will be a single ID or a string of them for multiples. In the example name below, it contains box car 109B00, 109B01, 109B02, 109B03, and 109B04, for a total of five.

    3.gif>

    Trolca_BoxCars109B00to04.dat

    3.gif>

Here a new batch of box car multi-packs following the new file name format. There are four packs with five cars in each one. Each pack follows one basic road name. Instead of giving screen shots I thought I would show the side view of each car from the BMP files.

    3.gif>

    /idealbb/files/TrolcaBoxCars109B00.jpg3.gif>

    3.gif>

All four of these packs can be used at the same time but should not be used with previous box car multi-packs. In each pack the car in the last image will randomly replace the caboose some of the time. These can be used with the last car variety mods.

    3.gif>

PS: Due to the size of the four mods, only one will be attached to this post, the rest will follow in three more posts.>3.gif>
