The LastCarVariety.dat gives variety for the last car of the freight trains including the caboose as one of the possibilities.
 
The LastCarVarietyNoCaboose.dat gives variety for the last car of the freight trains with the caboose being converted to a box car.
 
The mod that converts the caboose to a box car shouldn''t be used with either of these mods or they might not work.

    I found that the subway engine was flawed.
    Here's what it looked like in the reader.

    The FSH file for the front was plain black.
    Here it is with the new FSH I made.

    Here is a standard subway car for comparison.
    /idealbb/files/SCATcar.jpg
    The plugin DAT file is the correct FSH file for the front of the subway engine.

    Looks really great, Trolca!  I really like the steam engine replacement modd!  The variety makes the game all that much more realistic.  Excellent work!  6.gif

    Here is a passenger train with an alternate paint scheme. There's an additional type of passenger car made from the tunneler, something hardly ever seen anyway.

    I might make more changes so it's easier to see the difference between the two types.

    Here is another passenger train upgrade. Again I robbed the tunneler for an extra passenger car type.

    You can edit the textures, what I call skins by using the reader to copy the FSH files, then using FiSHman to extract the bmp files. I'll try to put the steps together. I'm just not very good at explaining alot of what I do because so much is trial and error. I'm sort of learning as I go.

    Nah, that's all I need to know.  I'm good enough with the Reader and good enough with other stuff to be able to figure out the FiSHMan tool...it looks very well-written to me.  So don't worry about it.

    I figured out how to add an alpha channel to the freight engine skins. Here is 5 new skins for the original freight engine. Only use one at any time.

    Looks good, but could you by any chance actually make the train cars look as if they are connected to each other> I mean really, they don't look like one combined train, but instead four seperate cars 3.gif

    Can you make 2 more skins, one to make the freight train into a blue engine that has the conrail logo on the side. The other, to turn the default skin of the passenger train, and all its cars, into amtraks Acela train. Conrail%2038.jpg

    Are you going to update the modd that adds variety to freight trains with your new alpha channel discovery?  Please do.  And I agree with the Mallard: some Acela trains speeding through the city would be really cool.

    Either tonight or tomarrow. I'll do some major updating on most of the old mods.

    The problem with skins that have lettering is the fact that one skin is used for both sides so one side will be reversed (a mirror image), I don't like how that looks until something can be done to change it which I have an idea I'll try. Other then that, yes, it can be done.

    I thought they do have doors on each end, I place doors on the side but they're hard to see, I'll look into it.

    Here is the new steam engine replacements. These five freight engines are the same as the previous group but they replace the steam engine. It is possible to have freight engines with two color schemes at once, using one of these mods with or without one from the previous freight engine package.

    Here is a super passenger train mod. The tunneler, supway engine and car are lost with this mod. What is gained is an extra passenger engine and two passenger cars for a total of two passenger engines and three passenger car types.

    Keep up the good work, Trolca. 1.gif I like these mods...they make the game more entertaining. I'm curious...do these skins replace existing ones? Or do they all add to the existing set of train skins? I have some requests myself....for the freight trains, I'd like to see Santa Fe, Berlington Northern, and BNSF (Santa Fe and Burlington merged a number of years ago)engines. For the santa fe engines, I'd like to see the yellow and black ones, not the red and silver ones.

    I used to build N-scale model railroads. I havn't done any model railroading since I was 15 or 16, but I still love them. Your train mods are kind of opening a new avenue for "virtual" railroading. 2.gif

    Um, Darkmatter i think the default engines are santa fe it just doesnt say so on the sides, but it does on the front see:

    As a matter of fact this engine looks almost exactly like one of the santa fe HO scale model train engines I have tucked away somewhere.

    Nah, the santa fe engine IRL looks quite different. Its more yellow than black (only the gas tanks are black), with some red (Santa Fe lettering). The BNSF engines are either yellow or green, with the appropriate lettering.

    You mean you want the default engines changed, just for it to be a little less black, and to have it say santa fe on the side.

    hey trolca these mods are awsome. ive wanted new train skins since day 1 but im not good at stuff like that. But i have a question, would it be at all possible to make the frieght trains longer than the 4 or 5 cars that they are now? also if that was possible could u make there be more than one engine pulling it? thanx.

    Actually, I wanted additional engines. Rather than replacing, just add new ones. 1.gif Its possible, just complex.

    very kewl Trolca... I love this new variety in trains... for some reason FSHman doesnt work for me.... oh well ill try to download it again and see what happens...

    my trains also wait at the junctions, i think maxis added that with patch 2 but im not sure.
