Must i build farms in my city?
I don't want to have farms and want to fill the industry gap with regular industries only. Because i can't find any places for farms.
Can i ignore the demand for farms or will that ruin the city?

I have no job zone now and i think that's because i don't have enough jobs this time because i have made so that the sims can travel almost infinite long. I have much industry zoned but it will not develop. There are no demand for regular industries only a big demand for farms. Must i build farms to fill that gap?

no you dont have to have farms in your cities. in fact you can zone and grow industry without even having res. or comm. zoning. just zone for med. or high density ind. and it should start growing. if you have an empty city next to a large city you dont even need to zone for res. or comm. growth. just make sure the cities are connected and you have water in the empty city , and you can have nothing but industry. have fun!

hm.. i have MUCH undeveloped industry zones in the cities. May the problem be that there is a river splitting the city in two where one of the parts is residental and the other is industry?

no you dont have to build farms to start a city, but the only bad part about this is if you don't build ag you will not get the farmers market (without a cheat) the farmers market is one of the best rewards early on (it provides huge health boosts), In cities where I don't want to zone huge farms I use the Aothe Massive Hydroponic Farm by aothe provides 10k farm jobs in 1 building (yea, yea this is also a "cheat" whatever) , great for getting the farmers market, and the state fair if you want, without zoning half your map with farms.

the best way to increase demand for regular industry is to continue to develop the residential areas, more people in the city = more demand for jobs

however, I find it is much easier to simply zone a bunch of farms and slowly re-develop over top of them. In your undeveloped industrial area, try zoning agriculture in each empty zone. If your city tile is full, then open a neighboring city, and zone the whole thing I-ag. Eventually, as education gets better, IHT will replace agriculture and you won't have to deal with this anymore

greyveil, i'm a person who would cheat on tetris if that was possible so i use all cheats that seems to give anything 4.gif That big farmlot is intresting, i'll try that.
I still have the no job problem and now i really can't understand why. I used the super demand mod in a neighbour city so now i have 166.000 industry jobs there but in the residental city there's still no job zones. I have road, highway, avenue, subway and high speed train connection directly to the industrial city. All except for the road connection has the residents access to. The road is in a isolated area. Must they have roads have a road to get there?

The way the game calculates and transfers stuff between cities is rather spotty and hackish. Building pure R/C/I cities is a pain in general and I suspect the way you're using the super demand mod is exacerbating the problem.

I had this same problem a few times. Try messing around with the tax rates, lowering them for the appropriate income range of the people you want to move in. If you want middle class, then throw in some schools.

K
I noticed that my region was in a pretty intense recession, and after building a farming town, it seemed to recover big time. I for one don't think that the farms should be completely ignored...

You would be surprised if you just built one farm, default size (click ahd hold). Put roads around it, and then add some 2 x 1 res right on the farm land for farm workers.

If you educate them by adding a school, when you can afford it, you will find them heading for your industrial area.

have to admit even the doozers go for the farmers market39.gifwhich allows a lot more Doozers44.gif

the best way to get the ball rolling is to start the city with all three COM and RES AGRI

after placing the market, personelly I dezone the farms and go for more Dirty then Manf later HT, when the city has a higher EQ levels It take a while to educate the sims and to be able to afford schools to get the EQ need for the differnt types of IND

@KeanoManu try this mod for agri jobs:

Personally, if you don't want Ag, the easiest thing to do is tax them out. Raise your tax rate for Ag to 20%. Your demand for it will plunge. Also, you might want to lower your tax rates to ~5% for D/M/HT-I to encourage them to come in, but only temporarily (raise it to 9% when they move in).

The "Aothe Massive Hydroponic Farm by aothe" plugin didn't work at all. I've built four of them in a city without anything else (except for road-connections). Even with 4x10.000 jobs the demand for farms is at maximum and i don't think that's because i need more of them because it has sunken so that around 4-5.000 of them is lost or how i can explain that. Let's say they don't have all employs that they can have. With taxes: I'm a cheater 4.gif so i don't worry about money so i always set the taxes to 0 for the things i want in a city and 20 to the rest.
